I’m sure some people had a bad ass sports day. Attend the French Open and then walk over to Parc de Princes for the WC
VAR is starting to annoy me. Yes, she's making herself bigger but it's not really an unnatural position and had zero time to get out of the way. More penalties is not a good thing.
They can't seem to understand staying onside. They got lucky with a VAR penalty otherwise its a 1-1 game.
VAR has annoyed me for a while especially on penalty calls. Offsides is one thing but slow motion to determine penalties isn't a good thing at all. I wish it was for goal line and that's about it. Replay sucks for hockey too.
They definitely need to modify handballs and offsides because some decisions are just ridiculous. That France goal that was disallowed because her foot was like 2 inches beyond the defender is just stupid. It's like a guy in hockey being offside because his skate is up at the blue line.
Offside is offside and should not be a judgment call. However, the new handball rule is going to be awful.
I wish they'd modify offsides so that if you receive the ball in an onside position it's onside. In hockey it'd be like a pass coming to you but you make it back to the blue line before touching it. If you come back, it negates most of the advantage intended by the rule. And in not saying that's the only part of the rule. It would still be onside if you are onside at the pass too so through balls are still possible. But if you are offside you have a chance to "touch up". I'm sure this is flawed but the current rule sucks.
Don't think it should be a judgement call, just don't like that it's any part of the body being past the last defender. You want to take away goals because the torsos are even and 1 foot is barely past the defender or a knee, I don't like it. You take away some well deserved goals for slow motion replays on handballs and shirt pulls and what not. The penalty for Switzerland in the first nations league semi was an absolute joke. Can't wait to see how idiots like Jon Moss interpret VAR
That would be a hard no for me. I'm not sure if you've thought about it, but it would be like the back shoulder throw in football. The attacker would know exactly when he's stopping while the defender would have to watch the ball and the attacker to know when to stop. Would give attackers a huge advantage on set pieces.
The spirit of the rule has always been to defer to the attacker in tight situations. Var gets rid of that and nullifies a play if a fingernail is offsides. That was never the intention behind the rule. It’s dumb.
And now Japan draws their opener. That's another (with Australia) as far as a non-Europe contender not looking good early.
Weird thing that happens all of the time in soccer commentary. If a player falls in the box, commentators just always quick debate if it's either a dive or a penalty. Yet so many times it's simply a player trying to make a play and falling so that it's not a dive - but it's also not a penalty. But I don't know why they always default that it has to be one of those two things.
