The question of whether ESPN would play ball to get more playoff games is among the dumbest things I've ever read.
Not surprising this happens immediately after the P5 commissioners see that the sleeping giant in Muncie has awoken...gotta get in on that tv money. The entire nation saw the Arizona Bowl and are clamoring for a potential Bama-Ball State showdown.
Why would the committee put an auto bid cap on the P5s? Aren’t wouldn’t that defeat the purpose? I’m just asking the tough questions.
guys ive been saying 12 is the best model for YEARS. especially if you hate the idea of something as big as the fcs playoffs, which i go back and forth on. 12 is the minimum number that makes auto bids palatable. theyll still find a way to keep g5 teams out
Giving at least 1 G5 bid every year would be a net positive. Sure 4 out 5 years the team will get waxed in the first game, but that 1 year they upset a good team will make for good content to build hype around it every year
Until it becomes impossible to avoid, they need to do everything they can to avoid regular season rematches.
Coastal Carolina over aTm would’ve provided a surplus of fluid for the CFB world’s offseason cum jars.
Requiring a G5 to finish in the top 12 to qualify will lead to a bunch of 13th ranked best G5 teams. Let's not pretend they won't get squeezed out just like now. There's no reason there can't be a G5 auto-bid with 12. Hell there should be one if it's 8.
“The reason that you do to 12 is because you can develop the road of least resistance toward a good result.” So this isn’t about creating the best possible system for the sport. This is about getting a new system that gets a good result - in this case, higher revenues - with the least amount of push back. Terrible.
8 is so simple. 5 P5 champions. If one is 8-5 put em in the 8th seed against Alabama in the first round. 3 at-large. If a G5 team or Notre Dame is good enough they’ll get in.
8 with qualifiers is so easy. -Conference Champions auto qualify with one or less conference loss. -Group of 5 gets an auto bid if they finish undefeated or in the final poll’s top 8. -No more than 2 teams per conference. The New Year’s 6 bowls all get playoffs games on a rotational basis with a neutral site NC game.
Lol no way. Teams like UCF already refuse to play road games against top 15 programs. You would just be encouraging them further to weaken their scheduling with this. If they are deserving the committee will put them in.
if the team is a fraud(2018)then they would get bounced in the 1st round. if not(2017 w Milton as QB and 3 NFL WRs/TEs) then we get to watch what makes sports great I have never understood the anti playoff sentiment w so many college fans. The regular season won’t lose any interest as long as gambling degenerates exist
Oregon and Ohio state have way less incentive to because they get in by winning their conference. Ohio State wouldn’t be afraid to play a road game across the country against a top 15 program because it’s not gonna punish them if they lose. Like Oregon wasn’t punished for going across the country and losing to Auburn.
Oregon was punished for going across the country and playing Auburn. If they’d played Idaho that week they’d have been in the playoff.
