Scrolled to the bottom of thread cause I didn't want to get scooped. P like warm after 2 episodes. Continue or nah?
Finally finished today. Took my awhile because the pacing was so bad for the middle episodes. Episode 8 got me back in but my fucking God episodes 12 and 13...those were intense.
Also, Kate Walsh > As much as this is a show about bullying and suicide, it's also a showcase, like Big Little Lies, that teachers today are terrible and uninformed on their jobs and how to handle certain situations.
Finally finished. Character development was fantastic throughout. I was emotionally invested in pretty much every characters story. My only complaint, and its a very minor one that isn't even story related was all the tattoos. Made it hard to suspend disbelief that everyone was in HS when pretty much every actor in the show had multiple tattoos. Spoiler Yea those last few episodes were really rough. Very hard to watch. Had a feeling pretty early on that Jeff was going to die because he wasn't present in any of the present time scenes. It did feel a little to hollywood drama overkill at the end with Alex shooting himself in the head and Tyler collecting guns to kill everyone. I get they were trying to leave the door open for a season 2, but it felt a bit much to me. Very well done show that I won't be watching ever again. Gonna take a lot to get me up for a season 2 at this point.
Forgot about Skye but I didnt really notice the others but how hard is it to get a fake ID and get some tattoos when you are 16-17 yrs old
How did you miss Justin? Guy even had a massive chest tattoo. Well all you need is a signature from your parents. It really isn't that big of a deal. Just came off odd to me that like half of the characters featured in the show had tattoos.
Won't lie teared up in the final episode when the parents walk into the bathroom. I am for one glad i got thru middle school and high-school long before the social media boom. Kids are ruthless.
Finished this last night. As others have said, it was very sad and some scenes were pretty tough to watch. It was tough for me to buy into though because this group of kids came across as incredibly dumb, even for high schoolers who are dumb to begin with.
Spoiler He's a piece of shit and sounds fucking stupid for saying people should have reported two rapes (and who knows how many more)? Yes, it was shitty of Hannah not to tell Jessica or the cops. Everyone else heard the story on the tapes (at which point they should have reported it). No, no one knew that Hannah had been raped until they heard the story on the tapes (at which point they should have reported it). Being young and scared of backlash isn't an excuse.
congrats on being so mature and knowledgable at age 16-17 I guess the vast majority of kids these days are not so lucky
Just binged the last 5 episodes today and damn, parts of that were tough to watch. I can't help but wonder though about how natural the reaction Hannah had being on the list. It seemed to be the first thing that set the tone and things snowballed from there...Most high schools have mock elections (not for body parts obviously) that seem like harmless fun and everyone gets a kick out of. Guys talk about this stuff all the time in HS, and most girls know damn well what their best features are and often display them any chance they get. Hell, I bet most would be proud to be included on a list like that for their various features. (Sorry, was being semi crypic about the "list" if people consider it a spoiler even tho it's discussed a few episodes in.)
I thought the picture set the tone and everything just was a pile on from there. Kids are ruthless today especially with the advent of social media. The one thing I didn't get is after what happened to Jessica why in the hell would she go to a party at Bryce's house.
I'm sure girls might put on a show and act like they like the list but in reality almost no self respecting females like being objectified like that. It either creates unwanted attention or it creates self esteem and worth issues that are affecting every single girl today
Yeah, agree to disagree. Parts of that are true no doubt, but most women love the attention their features give them 99 percent of the time and don't mind at all to be reminded of them. Edit: I guess I am thinking more about college girls ages 19-25ish. All those "kids" looked so damn old on the show I just thought of them as older.
not gonna lie, the lyrics of Hannah and Clay's song are pretty eerily spot on I am not the only traveler Who has not repaid his debt I've been searching for a trail to follow again Take me back to the night we met And then I can tell myself What the hell I'm supposed to do And then I can tell myself Not to ride along with you I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met I don't know what I'm supposed to do, haunted by the ghost of you Oh take me back to the night we met When the night was full of terror And your eyes were filled with tears When you had not touched me yet Oh take me back to the night we met I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met I don't know what I'm supposed to do haunted by the ghost of you Take me back to the night we met
I love Lord Huron. They were the first band I ever saw at any type of music festival. I was wandering around Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park in SF with my mom and had just bought some BBQ oysters and a beer and needed a place to sit down and eat. Luckily there was a really small stage nearby with some bleachers made out of hay bales. So we sat down on the hay bales and this band starting playing. After a few songs we looked at each other, surprised at how good they were. It was folksy, indie rock with 3 guitars, a bass, and drums and they were all completely rocking out. I made a note of their name, Lord Huron, and downloaded all three of their EP's the following week. They didn't even have a full album yet. It was a gorgeous day. Slightly cloudy. Warm, but not too warm. The slightest breeze. Later on I saw The Decemberists, John Fogerty, and Arcade Fire. Arcade Fire was actually the reason I was there, but Lord Huron got the day off to an amazing start and I've been following them and going to music festivals ever since.
Officially renewed for Season 2. Another miniseries that shouldn't get a second season. At least Big Little Lies has a great cast to work with.
Not sure how a season 2 would work really. I agree that they should have left it with one season. It was too popular, so you knew a season 2 was going to happen.
I binge watched this weekend and I feel like they really missed on the ending. Yes, the death scene was powerful and upsetting, but the noise surrounding the other characters and what comes next was unnecessary and diminished from the end result. I also think this article is very fair regarding Clay's actions in particular. http://www.tvguide.com/news/13-reasons-why-ending-spoilers/
It starts to ramp up in general at this point. I don't recall one episode being so over the top compared to others until the last few, but it builds.
Finished it last night. I have some thoughts. Spoiler 1. I don't understand why these shows don't shell out $5K to hire a sports consultant. As others have mentioned the actors were laughably bad at sports, but the prop/costume design department needed some serious help. The basketball team should've worn white uniforms, not blue. The cheerleaders' uniforms shouldn't have had the "LH" patches on them; they should have either had just the "L" the letter jackets had or had "LHS." This would be like Michigan State cheerleaders wearing "MS" gear instead of "MSU." In the final episode, the baseball team should've used aluminum bats and not wooden ones. It also made it seem like the basketball season started in September. I'm probably in a small minority that noticed this, but it drove me fricking crazy -- and it's not like I'm the only person that knows this stuff. 2. I know you have to chalk this up to "It's a TV show, stupid," but it always bothered me that A) none of the characters were throwing it in Clay's face that it took him months to go through the tapes when it seemed like all the other ones went through them quickly. I'm not totally sure on the timeline of when Hannah killed herself and when Clay got the tapes, but Tony said he listened to them all in one night. And that B) none of the other kids were spoiling Clay's tape for him. I kept waiting for another kid to say "Why are you still bothering me about this shit? I listened to the tapes in 3 days. What the fuck is taking you so long?" Or "Why do you care so much about this, Clay? Hannah's not coming out of the grave to give you that blowjob you obviously want." 3. Clay's dad was doing such a bad Jason Bateman impression I actually looked him up on IMDb to make sure they weren't related. 4. Derek Luke has gone from playing a high school running back to a high school counselor. We are all getting old. 5. Tony constantly showing up where Clay with the same damn look on his face got a little comical at one point. 6. I can't imagine a torture worse than having your child commit suicide. Fucking horrible. 7. I need someone to make a supercut of all the times Clay ended a scene by saying "I have to get to class." 8. The scene that hit me the hardest wasn't the suicide (though I actually caught myself turning away from the screen) but Clay's imagined conversation with Hannah after she pushed him away in Jessica's bedroom. But that's probably because Hannah is exactly my type of girl. My disgust meter took a brief pause during Hannah's rape scene to be jealous of Brice because he got to touch her boob. 10/10 would wife.
Also, I'm completely out on Season 2 and beyond. The book was (obviously) a self-contained story written to make a specific point. No additional seasons can possibly add to that.
1. its a very small minority of the audience that would actually care about athletic details so it probably wasnt worth it to spend the extra money to them
exactly. this show was made with the emo high school kid and helicopter soccer moms in mind. They couldn't give 2 shits that the sports looked awful
2. we dont know the specific timeline of the tapes. or really even how long it actually took for him to get through it. like was it one tape a day? one tape every other day, etc? They didnt spoil it because everyone has different grieving processes and they were still dealing with the aftermath of their tape as well
Didn't Clay say to the guidance counselor that Hannah had been in to see him a few weeks before? So it took him a couple weeks to get through the tapes, not a few months?
Supposedly in the books he listened all in one night and he did the walk through entirely with Hannah. All the other students were not nearly as involved other than listening to what they did.
