Me and the bff have been looking for a house for about a month. Idea would be to live in it for a couple years while she finishes grad school, modernize, then sell once the capital gains exception comes online. We had put in an offer on a place previously but they took another. Last week we found a really cool place at a very reasonable price per foot. Good neighborhood and all. But I noticed that unlike the other houses in the neighborhood the purchase price here seemed to have been mostly flat for a couple decades despite being one of the gems of the neighborhood. So we put in an offer. They countered but when countering the listing agent mentioned that this house was a bit famous because a murder happened their 30 some years ago. They figured we would find out eventually so better to get it out in the open before were under contract and here it from the neighbors. Me and the bff had a talk. Her first response was no way it's too creepy. What if tourists come looking. And she hates scary movies. Like had to look away during parts of stranger things. She talked to some of her co-workers and calmed down and agreed that the biggest issue is potential limitations on resale value but that if we get in it right we should be ok. And it's a great house. So the question, would you buy and live in a house where someone had been murdered? Would ur bff freak out? What if it was a relatively infamous murder?
