I've not seen if for myself, only read the horror stories so I'm prepared for the worst hoping for the best.
Questions... Who has been to Counterpoint? It's not sold out and it's this weekend. I am not against packing up a tent and rocking solo, because I'm typically pretty good at doing shit/traveling by myself. However, a festival seems like a different animal to do solo -- FE: I wouldn't want to do Hangout solo, but could probably do TomorrowWorld if I camped.
I don't know that a festival by yourself would be much different really, especially if you're camping. Make friends with your neighbors you're camped next to and go to some shows with them. That said I've never been to Counterpoint so I don't know what that's like.
I've got some friends that are doing Counterpoint. I'd agree that making friends shouldn't be too hard if you like the lineup enough to go give it a shot.
You'll be better in the west woods if it rains than main stage. Main stage would become a mud pit from all the people trekking through there. Only people camped in west woods are walking around there and it's pretty much just to get to and from your campsite. There's no vendors or anything like that either. Granted I'm just assuming this as I've never been there when it rains, but main stage is lower ground and would hold water and west woods is up on a hill as well.
No it is. It's just all campsites. You'll know who has shit or just go to shakedown on your way to the stages. It was over by the reserved campsites.
Has this link been posted in the thread yet? Thanks to Fran Tarkenton for posting in ATL thread. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/summer-2015s-50-must-see-music-festivals-20150424
isn't that the one where a hunter found a lost and confused hippie roaming around on his land a few days after?
Seems that way TBH... Still might go because even that is better than having a long weekend doing the same usual shit. If there are 30k (I honestly have no idea) people camping and partying or whatever, I'm sure there is fun to be found.
I may have just booked a trip to Seattle and ticket to Paradiso after 7 beers and watching the Hawks.
Anyone know details? Like car camping vs reg camping? I heard car was the way to go since it's right there with the regular campground.
CounterPoint was the fucking SHIT. Not too many people, great weather, good vibes, great music. They literally did everything right. I can't even.
Yeah I do. Best visionary art and music festival outside of burning man and it is on a lake that you can swim in 24/7
Yea, but it's all electronic. It's scientifically indisputable that no festival featuring all electronic music can be considered the best.
its my opinion. I give zero fucks about mainstream festivals. Acl can suck my dick. The only other festival you and I would agree upon would be Suwannee and we have already had this convo. So why repeat it?
I feel you. I just don't know how people can do three days of electronic music. Most mainstream fests have three bands I'd pay to see individually, and acl is no different. Alt J modest mouse and Bama shakes are the only bands I'd wanna see. I'm sure we would both agree that the festival lineups were significantly better (in terms of bands we'd wanna see) before 2011 or so.
I don't do drugs anymore so music fests are more like tailgating than getting weird now a days. So I'd say yes they are fun. That being said, I wouldn't go to an electronic fest with out doing something harder than weed or beer just because I can't enjoy most electronic music sober.
Exactly, even more of a reason that acl is meh as fuck and most fests have shitty lineups. Drake as a headliner is laughable.
The stuff I go to is way weirder than anything you've ever experienced or can even imagine, but it is for me. Plus symbiosis isn't all electronic music.
No offense but you don't know good electronic music if you can't find anything to enjoy sober. Everything I listen to could be enjoyed sober If you can't enjoy bonobo sober, I got nothing for you.
Don't get it twisted, I can listen to electronic music sober, just not at a 3 day electronic only music fest. I dig a lot of jamtronica and listen to a fair amount of djs as well, bonobo being one of them, although I prefer his live band stuff more. I just dont get moved by electronic music naturally anymore and 3 days of electronic music at a festival would require some chemical assistance. Funk and jazz and bluegrass move my feet more these days and a few beers and a joint are all I really need at a show. I just wouldn't have fun at that type of fest anymore. Not a dig at that genre, it's just not for me at this point in taste.
There's ~16 bands that I am looking forward to seeing and none are headliners. "Meh as fuck" for some people. Awesome for me and everyone I've talked to
I'm glad you're excited and I hope you have a great time. I love Austin and really wanna get out there for one of the music fests. Who are you looking forward to seeing?
I can answer this... Yes. Like I said, this weekend was in-fucking-credible, and I was drug-free if you don't include alcohol. Everyone has different tastes, doesn't mean one person is right and another is wrong. Personally, camping festivals are my thing. EDM is also what I have the most fun seeing live.
Deadmau5. AL Shakes. Monsters and men. Sturgill Simpson. A$ap Rocky. Gary Clark Jr. Chance the Rapper. Ben Howard. Father John Misty. Cherub. Run The Jewels. Leon Bridges. GRiZ. And most importantly: Moon Taxi Hopefully I won't have to make that many choices between these... I have a feeling I will and will probably mean I get a one day pass weekend two to see who I missed. Also hopefully this coincides with Modest Mouse as well cause I'd like to see them but they're not worth a day pass
We have pretty different tastes. I do like that one sturgill simpson song about being the king of shit mountain.
daddy fat sacks I would never expect to you like this but I listen to music like this all day everyday sober as fuq. https://soundcloud.com/radiozora/numatik?in=radiozora/sets/chill-channel-archives-2015
I'm still on the CounterPoint high right now... If you're even a little into any of that music it's a festival that I would strongly recommend. I personally rank music 3rd on importance when it comes to what I value, so that shit was awesome. Also a benefit that I fucking love watching live DJ sets and CP had some excellent ones.
Mainly, experience and vibes around the place (aka the people) are more important than the music to me. For the most part, I have just as much/more fun hanging out where I'm staying than I do at the actual shows.
You would like South Carolina football. Our tailgating and atmosphere are better than our actual product
Here is another list of the best festivals of 2015.... http://www.fuse.tv/2015/01/best-music-festivals
I went to Indiana for grad school man... Haha, I completely understand. The tailgates in Bloomington -- are surprisingly -- awesome.
I don't dislike it in the slightest. I would enjoy that type of set a few times during a festival, just not 3 days of it.
