will Chris Stapleton please just go away? Courtney Marie Andrews, John Moreland, Caroline Rose and Maggie Rogers are sweet
Loved Candler Park last year was like $80 for VIP which was prime viewing, not crowded, and a couple free beers for a 2 day festival.
Went 2 years ago and it was a lot of fun. Only did GA. And the viewing is definitely worse but $25 is awesome.
420 was really good. Beautiful weather Friday and Saturday. Friday- missed motet but I see them all the time in nola. Spafford was good until they sang per usual. Cheese was awesome Saturday Missed anders and Marco benevento because morning reasons and they play for free in nola all the time. Also missed Soja because white boy reggae is an abomination. Taz us outta this world. Dude sat in on almost every set the whole weekend. This kid is a fucking full fledged virtuoso. 14 years old and shit. The sound was so shitty on the main stage that we didn't realize JRAD had been playing for 5 min before we realized it wasn't the house music. Sat they really dropped the ball on the main stage volume but seem to have it fixed by Sunday Went to the string dusters fir first jrad set and holy shit they threw down. Andy Hall is top notch. Back to a decent jrad set because of sound issues and wasn't worth getting close for. Ghostland absolutely crushed it and I'm glad they'll be touring again. TTB was slow and boring and was exaggerated by the shitty sound issues. Also ended 40 min early to a very wtf!? crowd. Sundays rainy weather thinned the crowd big time. Arrived halfway thru greensky and they've never really impressed me so I went straight to tauk. IMNSHO this was the best set of the weekend. I've never left their sets and been anything but blown away. Again, IMNSHO, they are hands down the best jamtronica band out. Vulfpeck. Where do I even start to explain this abomination. Buncha fucking theater geeks needing out on puttin on a 'show' that was embarrassing to watch at best. They spent tooooo much time on this concept that was part baseball part audition part tv show. It was fucking dumb. They had some funky moments but were too invested in their schtick to gather any momentum. And they had too much soul singing. Hard pass and would probably avoid their sets in the future. Paoadosio was pretty good as usual. Nothing mind blowing but we're as good as they've usually been. Umphreys was awesome per usual and their lights were dope. Only stayed for first 1.5 hours because I was cold and wet and needed pho. Beer prices were a bit steep but the mixed drinks were large and strong. Also $25 for a bottle of wine was a great deal. Most lax security I've seen in a while and you could bring in any amount of booze you'd want. Very cool location in downtown atl The philly nitrious mafia is amazing st what they do. Tanks right in front of the exit with police supervisors. Tiffin will tell you how nuts the dead and co shakedown was. It was basically a half mile or more of tanks with cops bookending the area. They are getting more and more ballsy it seems. Would recommend, especially if you have friends to stay with in Atlanta.
Nitrous Mafia is one of those things that every time I see it blows my mind. Dudes in black clothes with headsets just doing work on ballons. I've seen them everywhere and never seen them getting in trouble. Huntsville, Birmingham, downtown Atlanta several times, NOLA. Hell they once we're waiting outside the music stages field for Lockn, a camping festival. Just a strange phenomenon.
Was at dragons den during jazz fest about a decade ago before they made the den less sketch and the mafia dudes rolled thru with a tank. They tried to price gouge and my friend didn't take lightly to that. I was on acid and was fearing for the worst. They ended up correcting their prices. I was scared.
It was an enjoyable festival. I'll probably lay off the Sweetwater for awhile though. Really enjoyed Stickfigure and Paoadosio. Umphreys was really good too, I just couldn't stand being wet for two more hours. I've seen better cheese performances.
Need some undercard recs for ACL. Byrne. FJM. Greta. Shakes. Manchester. Houndmouth (they still good since the band issue last year) I think Tiffin was the HM expert before. Japanese Breakfast. Jackie Venson. Ones I saw at first glance. That middle 1/3 of the card I’m Jon Snow with pretty much 10-12 lines of names...
I love HM. Supposed to be coming with a new album this year. But haven't gotten to see them since Katie left, so I have no idea what to expect. Was hoping to get to candler park fest in ATL to see them but not sure if I can.
Khurkabin (or however you spell it) is some odd music. I don't dislike it, but it's a little trance-y, spacey, psychedelic. Could put you to sleep, but could be interesting. Haven't seen them but listened to them in the lead up to a year they played at Lockn. Nicole Atkins is sexy and can belt it. Seen her sing with JRAD and Phil and Friends before.
Khruangbin is pretty good live if you like their music. Saw them a few months ago. Would also recommend you check out Sir Sly, Jungle, Big Thief, Moses Sumney, and Cuco. The last two are singers, not bands, but they're pretty good at what they're trying to do. Pretty sure you're already heard of St Vincent, Parquet Courts, and Alvvays as well. And B0RNS was a delightful set at Coachella. He's a lot better at guitar than I expected.
