I don't have any predictions other than I'll be surprised if the Cubs don't have the best record in the NL. AL feels like a total crapshoot. And if you had Arizona pegged as a playoff team, I don't know how you can stick with it post Pollock injury. No one could afford an injury to a star less than they could.

After thinking through those projections for about 2 minutes, I have come to the conclusion that the AL sucks balls right now. The elite teams aren't there. The elite players (outside of Trout) aren't there. The league has flipped completely from the AL being the beast 3-4 years ago, to the NL now being clearly better.

I didn't have them pegged as one before the injury. There were already 6 really good teams ahead of them.

I trust the Yankees more than the other teams in that division. I think their floor is highest. I didn't like any of those teams in the playoffs for reasons I just stated in another post.

The NL is odd in that there appears to be no middle. Everyone sans LA and Miami is either definitely trying to win now or definitely rebuilding, and even the Dodgers still have enough talent to win now.

I definitely liked them more than SD last year. I probably didn't either but I think they definitely had a reasonable shot of a wild card. Definitely don't see it now. They were definitely a team where I thought the metrics had pegged a bit better than the traditional media.

The Dodgers might not have gone all in this offseason, but there's no way you can describe them other than trying to win now. They just didn't dump a bunch of resources in trades or long term FA deals because they didn't think they had to, IMO.

Agreed on the "no middle" thing, though. The AL has a lot of teams in that middle area, although a lot of those teams (Baltimore, Detroit, LAA, Seattle) are going for it. They're in the middle because they've done that wrong somewhere along the way.

Red Sox seem to have some talent even with the shit show that is going on at 3rd. Maybe that is just me thinking Mookie is in for a big year leaking over to the team.

That pitching staff scares the hell out of me.

I think Boston has the highest ceiling in that division. That rotation is a bit scary, though.

The only team I would be shocked to see win that division would be Baltimore. Could make arguments for any of the others, with TB being a stealth candidate.

I feel like the Dodgers offseason might come back to bite them in the ass this season where the Giants win the West and they miss out on a WC slot. Which will lead to a bunch of hurr durr articles about their payroll.

I think the Dodgers are basically doing what the Yankees are doing, albeit for different reasons, and they're being much less transparent than the Yankees are being. The future financial flexibility reasons for the Yankees moves isn't what is guiding the Dodgers current roster moves. All things being equal they'd love to win now and will tinker to do so, but I don't see any way they acquire a huge piece at the deadline or make a splash in FA next year unless there's some discount, and I think they're fine missing the playoffs either this year, next year or both. The rub is going to be if ownership bails on the plan in the interim.

I just don't think they look at it that way. I think they made the moves they made knowing what kind of team they'd have, and probably knew there's a decent shot they don't make the postseason.

For the Dodgers? No. That's definitely not their plan, although I'm sure they'll make a big run at Harper. Their plan is much more on how they see the franchise ideally operating and how best to spend money given the cap, draft and international spending limitations.

I'm curious what you guys would do in my shoes if Montreal hypothetically got a team in the next 5 years. I live Ottawa, which is 4.5 hours from Toronto and just under 2 hours from Montreal. Growing up, I rooted for the Expos (went to 2-3 games a year, Moms side of the family is from there, etc). When the Expos left in '04 I became a Toronto fan and followed them all throughout their shiftiness to their recent resurgence.
