Rooting for you guys to win this so crazy shit can happen. Enjoying watching you guys fight back this game.
Let's rosterbate little: Holes are at 1B, SS, LF, C and obviously we need some help in the rotation. Who would you guys like to see us go after?
I want to be happy but that God damn 3-11 end to August fucked this team out of the #1 WC spot. 86-76 is something to build on though. Add some pieces and this could be a 95 win team next year.
I think any expectations need to be built on the assumption that Cruz and Cano will at least regress by 10 percent across the board. Which still makes them great players, but I have my doubt about a 34 or 35 year old Cano having a career high in HRs again. 1st base: The free agency pool is fucking trash, need to make a trade here. Not sure, maybe sign someone like Matt Holiday and move him to 1st? SS: Again, the free agent pool sucks and we need to make a move. LF: Ian Desmond? I would love me some Ian Desmond. SP: Jeremy Hellickson? Rich Hill? Not much out there either. C: Ramos? He just tore his ACL so probably not, but Wieters? I dunno. This free agency class sucks
:D Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 3m3 minutes ago Astros claim Nori Aoki off waivers from the Mariners.
Hope Dae Ho Lee comes back. Just read an article saying that he wasn't thrilled with the platoon decision. Can't say I blame him since Adam Lind sucks all the balls.
Um... Not a fan at first glance. Segura has some pop and will be a nice leadoff hitter, but Walker could end up being special (not to mention we were shallow on starters before this deal). Seems that the F.O. And Servais were tired of dealing with Walker. Marte also was young and his best days are probably yet to come. Dont know much about the other 2 guys we got. Thoughts?
Dave Cameron: Walker/Segura going to get the headlines, but Haniger could be the wild card in this deal. If he’s a legit CF, could be best player in deal.
Going to post the first tweet, then just c&p the rest of the discussion from Zach Sanders: 3. I don't mind trading Taijuan - he's probably a RP long term without serious fixes. But someone had to also have hope and get a better rtn 4. Marte wasn't going to play this year. Badly needed some minor league time 5. This a continued investment in the here and now for the M's. I get it. But you're throwing chips on the table now instead of limping. 6. M's are desperate for a SP now. Quite the stink behind Paxton, Felix, and Kuma. Need Karns to fix himself and Miranda to not go LeBlanc 7. W/o naming names, thinking this deal hinges on Haniger is hilarious bullshit. It all comes down to how much Segura can repeat this year. 8. Net net, M's upgrade win total this year. But also probably not an ideal use of resources, could have upgraded more.
Seems like a big gamble on 1 year of production from Segura. We now have to go overpay and get a starter or 2 on the FA market now. Definitely seems like were going all-in for the next year or 2, which does make sense. !but if thats the case, shouldnt have fixed one weakness (SS) by creating another one (SP). Only think I can think of is they were all just really sick of Walker. Was Dipoto in LA back when they originally signed Segura?
Yeah I'm trying to get excited about it, but it feels like the most likely scenario is Segura regresses (hopefully to somewhere between 2015 and 2016) and Walker develops into a solid #2/3 starter at worst. I wouldnt mind it if we had an abundance of SP depth and guys in the high minors ready to go, but we have neither. Our lineup is set, but were still 2-3 solid SP's away from having a roster built to contend. And with very few on the FA market, we'll have to overpay in FA or via trade to get anyone decent. If we were intent on dumping Tai, it should have been done for something more, or at least later in the offseason. Dipoto must either REALLY love Segura or REALLY hate Walker.
I just read that the team was frustrated with Walker's conditioning and work ethic, which doesn't surprise me given how heavy Taijuan looked this year. I do like Walker but I feel like he'll never be an elite pitcher. I'm fine with mixing it up but I do believe this is a light trade for us.
This helped me feel better about the trade: prospectinsider.com/seattle-mariners/deal-for-shortstop-jean-segura-taijuan-walker/
Whalen's a solid arm, could be a back-end guy or a swing-man type. Povse is a big dude (6'8") with a good arm, throws a lot of groundballs and has good command. Really intriguing prospect that I liked a lot.
Appears the Braves are trying to acquire as many players picked in the first round of the '14 draft as they can. Have Jackson, Sean Newcomb and Touki Toussaint now.
Jack Zduriencik's first round picks as the Mariners GM: 2009: Dustin Ackley 2009: Nick Franklin 2010: Taijuan Walker 2011: Danny Hultzen 2012: Mike Zunino 2013: DJ Peterson 2014: Alex Jackson FUCKING KILL ME PETE.
Yeah if that was the best we could get for Smith, Jerry really misread the market or sees something no one else does
If Yovanni Gallardo gets you Seth Smith, Taijuan Walker and Ketel Marte should get you more than Jean Segura + shit.
Saw a quote on ESPN that kind of summed up this trade: "Both teams got what they needed, but neither got what they wanted."
