Burn it down. This team isn’t going anywhere but third place in the west for the next 4-5 years. Gotta do something drastic in order to get out of the 75-85 win rut.
Ya its the right move. Even if it doesn’t work out and lead us to a W.S. it’s still the right move. We’re in the worst spot with an aging roster. Trade everyone, even guys like Haniger and Diaz, and try to get some elita talent.
How would they know she is making it up if they haven’t done an investigation? Why would you tend to believe that she’s making it up? Also, calling her Ms. Martin is total horseshit.
She’s alleging that Dipoto, Servais and others have a history of making racist comments and attitudes toward Latin players, specifically Dominicans. She also alleges that Dipoto discriminated against her because of her gender and made sexist comments.
The story with her quotes reads as someone who is bitter she was fired and the alleged racist comments from Dipito read like comedy. If they are true, then they should all be fired. Why is calling her Ms. Martin total horseshit?
Because she has a doctorate and has been referred to as Dr. Martin or even just as Martin previously.
This is the same organization who retained the President of the company after he was accused and admitted multiple instances of workplace harassment. The women who accused Mather no longer work for the team.
Ceiling is apparently #3 starter. Yankees prospects are always overrated. I'm glad we traded him but knew I'd never be happy with the haul
I guess it depends on who you trust. Keith Law had him as his #12 overall prospect and a high end #2 mid-season.
Well, as long as nobody throws an ice cream sandwich at him mid game, he’ll be better than the last Yankees prospect we got.
Diaz has to be next (sadly). Doesn’t make sense to have an elite reliever right now for M’s. They’re so damn volatile and we’re so damn far from contending that it’s hard to justify even though he’s young and cheap. His value will never be higher and we need to capitalize on that, unlike what we did with Felix a few years ago. If not now, then it better be at the deadline in July when MAYBE they’ll be able to get slightly more from a team going all-in. Haniger probably also needs to go, in part because he will be past his prime and expensive by the time we realistically will be competitive again.
I don't think they will end up finding a trade for Haniger or Diaz. Paxton could always resign in two years too. That 2020 and 2021 spot Dipoto is shooting for to compete
They could move those guys at any moment if they wanted to. You HAVE to trade Diaz just bc his value will never be higher and closers are so volatile. I would feel bad for Haniger if they kept him but I wouldn't be mad at extending him and hoping he stays productive through the rebuild. That said, if you're gutting you gotta go full gut and get as much young talent as you can
Ya if we don’t trade those guys we will sit in mediocrity for the next decade. Just good enough to avoid the top 5 of the draft but bad enough to never contend for anything more than WC2 in a lucky year. We’ve gone this far. Do it the right way and trade anyone with value. I dont care if we take back low-ceiling high-floor prospects, but dump payroll and get what we can.
“The issue may be that neither trainer is certified. Santiago questioned why that was an issue now after he’d been with the organization for 10 years. Both Santiago and Valdez said the Mariners were helping them become certified.” How long have they been trainers? That full 10 years? And if so, how long could it possibly take to get certified?
I don’t want to jinx anything so I won’t post what the rumored trade is, but if it goes down as the experts on Twitter say, I would say it’d be a slam dunk for M’s. Because Mariners, I’m assuming we’ll only get 2 of the 3 prospects mentioned (and not the top guy) and we will all feel underwhelmed overall.
Rumor is Diaz/Cano (and $ but no mentions of amount) for: Jay Bruce (salary dump...2 yr 26 mil) Anthony Swarzak (salary dump...1 yr 8 mil) Jeff McNeil (2B, 27, ok in first yr in MLB) Jarred Kelenic (stud 19 yr old OF prospect) Justin Dunn (top Mets pitching prospect) Expectation is that probably one of the prospects gets dropped. If M’s get Kelenic and Dunn then its a great deal. If they lose Kelenic, not as good. Hoping the M’s kick in whatever $ is needed to get all 3. Someone just tweeted out that no other M’s players or prospects will be involved.
This guy is a Mets writer and he’s been all over this trade. If this is the hold-up, I’d say thats a good thing for M’s.
So far, the only one im left scratching my head about is the Segura trade. Anyone else feel like the Mariners fucked that one up?
When Safeco opened in 1999 the premium seating was sold based on 20 year packages. Those original contracts are up, add in the fact the Mariners are going to suck more than usual the next few years and now there's a lot of primo season ticket locations opening up. I'm 3 hours away from the park so I grabbed a 20 game package right down in front (row one) on the first base side. After this year I'll see what else opens up for season tickets in the first three rows. Even if you only go to a dozen games or so like me you can sell the others. Granted nobody is going to want to see the A's but people pay good money ($250-$300) to see shit tier franchises like the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees and Cardinals in premium seating. Your per ticket cost on season tickets down in front are around $65-$70 each.
Good call. I'm about 4 hours away but have the summers off (only perk of teaching) so I could probably make 10 games or so and just sell the rest. I don't care about watching the good teams, give me 10 games of M's vs Rangers, A's, or Royals.
Post in the travel thread. I, and others, have made a few Seattle posts in there that are pretty decent.
Over/Under was set at 70 wins. Thoughts? I think we get 73 wins. Not nearly as bad as it would seem it could be given the teardown. And not overachieving like the Braves last season. Or anywhere close for that matter I'm really sad this will be the last year for Felix. I hope he bounces back, but if not I hope he just retires. Seeing him hang on too long and wear another uniform would be heartbreaking.
i was looking at the west teams earlier this week and i wondered what the mariners were going to do with him. keep a great of during the rebuild and then give him a huge contract when he’s 30 or 31 or trade him now and get a really nice return and help the rebuild even more
