Devils need to figure out Vasilevskiy in the 3rd. No Vatanen is killing us. Need the Hall/Hischier line to step up.
Close out the next game and watch the Caps and CBJ beat the shit out of each other for another 4 games
I was having this conversation with a friend a while back. In addition to the shitty mechanics, apparently goalie pads were just stupidly heavy back then. So that's why you'd see guys still on their skates trying to stop wrist shots. Once you went down, you weren't going anywhere any time soon.
Pads were essentially cloth pillows strapped to their legs. They would soak up all the water on the ice and essentially become 20 pound leg weights by the end of every period.
Yeah, I remember reading about how some goalies' joints from back then were just fubar after their career.
That and nobody actually took the time to study goaltending. It was a mentality of stick the worst skater that was willing to have pucks shot at him in the net and hope for the best. It wasn’t until Tretiak showed up playing games in North America that goalies learned a new way to play the position and it started to really be valued as a position that had massive room for improvement.
Have no problem with that hit. Vatanen had the puck, feet didn't leave the ice, principal point of contact was the chest, elbow was in.
There was no malicious intent but other angles showed definite head contact and he prob has a concussion now tho. Vats being 5'10 didn't help either.
LMAO at giving Andrighetto 2 for roughing there. Granted they missed the spear, but what is he supposed to do when Hartman came after him
The D played really well tonight too, NJ had 12 shots on goal the last 36 minutes of the game. That's damn good for a playoff road game. I don't know what's happened over the last week but the PK looks serviceable and actually played a big part in a win. If this had been the regular season PK the Devils get at least 3 PP goals. Hell of a job done on Hall tonight as pretty much anytime he got the puck there was a guy on him and he took some big hits, finally made it a tough game for him to play. The play of the game was the Miller goal, I had a bad feeling NJ was going to make it 2-0 early with the push they were making but that turned the momentum big time.
