Debateable who is the better player, Turris or Duchene. MD is two years younger and quicker. But Turris is a little better defensively, and considering we have 2 young elite franchise C’s just down the road, not sure about that.
Character as in issues with the team. Not his team mates. They said the same thing about Turris but I can tell you he’s salt of the earth kind of guy. Zero issues.
Unless Duchene blows up, Sens gave up a whole lot. Nashville getting Turris for just a first is a steal and Colorado got a nice package if Colin White is any good. I also have no idea what the contract situations are.
White isn’t going, its Bowers thank god. Sens kept all their top prospects. But we’ve been giving away picks like they’re candy as of late
Sens kept all their top 5 prospects. Bowers was their first this past year but the two kids they took after him are higher rated kids at the moment. But the difference between Turris and Duchene isn’t 2 firsts and a 3rd. The trading of picks is the owner forcing Dorion to move money. Please buy the team OSEG/other group.
Just feel like this is Bobby Ryan all over. Sure we didn’t give up many current nhl assets but next year Duchene will hold us ransom. I want $8M over 8. Because fuck you...
Sens have some very good young C prospects in Brown, White, Chlapik and Batherson. None of them has elite C potential.
While I think we gave up a ton, I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about adding a player. Maybe Hasek
semi-related anecdote. GF gave me a signed Senators Hasek puck for my birthday a few years ago. I had completely forgotten he played for the Sens. So when she gave it to me, I was completely confused and actually told her that it was a fake. Yea, I had some making up to do after that one
That was one of the most dominant teams to ever play in the modern era. Hasek stays healthy and they cruise to a cup imo
pretty tough to say something like that when Detroit was a monster that regular season and got bounced in the first round by the 8 seed.
Less dominant than Detroit who was resting players the last month of the season while you were fighting for your playoff spot.
Saw Paul MacLean at the Sens Detroit game last week. He smiled and nodded his head from across the press box. Reading Elliotte Friedman’s 31 thoughts today brought up some mermories. “MacLean won the Jack Adams Award in 2013, and it’s rare for someone who wins that trophy not to get another chance. Has he asked why it hasn’t happened in his case? “Yes,” he answered, carefully choosing his words. “I’ve been told I have a reputation for being…too grumpy.” MacLean added his final media conference in Ottawa, a testy exchange with the local media, was brought up to him.” Can’t remember the exact exchange but I had asked him a question and he gave me a standard BS answer. So I followed up with a one word question which he didn’t like. Next game the Sens media guy came over and gave me the gears, saying Mac didn’t appreciate the question. I said fair is fair and if he wants to dodge the issue, I’m not going to go after him but I have the right to follow it up. Paul knew his days were numbered and started getting real pissy towards the end. “He asked what I’d heard, and I told him word is that he “changed” after winning the Jack Adams. “That’s true,” he answered. “I did.” Then, he paused. “All I ask is people remember that Daniel Alfredsson left after that season, and we agreed we had to change our approach to get the best out of our group.” After that, MacLean concluded with, “I understand how it goes in hockey. Sometimes you’re on the wheel, sometimes you aren’t. I’m going to look to get back on.” His off the record quote was they used to play like Alfie, now they play like Spezza. Which I always thought was funny.
This Kings-Ducks game has been phenomenal as a neutral. It has had a playoff type vibe for large stretches of the game.
If the lightning want to keep namestnikov next year they need to shed some salary. Am I crazy to think that a trade deadline trade with the main parts being Tyler Johnson for John Tavares wouldn’t work? Islanders get a player they can keep at a reasonable price long term and the lightning get better this year and clear some salary to be able to afford namestnikov next season and maybe add a lower priced free agent on a 1 year deal looking to win a cup. Johnson has a NTC but it doesn’t go into effect until after this season. They have similar salaries so that would line up.
Wouldn’t have to be straight up. Could include prospects. Was more talking about the main parts of the trade. Islanders just aren’t an attractive FA destination so I think a player like johnson would be attractive to them long term. Was just a thought I had. Yzerman is the type to mortgage the future for the now but he might look to do that this year or next. Seem like our two best years to make a run. Will be interesting to see what he fetches. Isles should definitely move him since he isn’t going to resign with them. Toronto probably makes the most sense as a place to rent him but also have a few months to get him to warm up to moving back home and signing long term with them
I wondered if the Sens and Isles ever talked Turris Tavares. Obviously both would be signed going the other way and Ottawa would need to add. Would rather have ponied up for that over Duchene. Heard one Sens player was extremely happy with the trade and can’t wait for Duchene to join the Sens. Said he is a huge upgrade over Turris. But this Sen is also anti Boucher, who was a big fan of Turris. We will find out tommorw. Dorion gave Sakic a list of 9 prospects that he couldn’t have. Take anyone else you’d like he said. Enjoy the 10th best kid in our system.
I’m not arguing that they are close to the same player form a talent standpoint. The isles lose Tavares after this year. Tyler Johnson is signed for 6 more seasons. And he’s only a 3C because the lightning are stacked. He would be a 2nd line center on most teams and a number 1 on some. Guy has 40 points in the 43 playoff games the lightning played the last 2 cup runs. Again not saying he is really close to Tavares but calling him a 3c is underselling him a bit
As I was posting that Mantha scored a goal. He’s been dominant tonight. The rest of the team is dogshit though.
Which teams would Tyler Johnson be the definitive 1C? And yes he’s had a pretty good playoff run, albeit a small sample size of 43 games. He had a hot run but he is what he is, a middle pairing C lacking size and physicality. He’s on a 5M contract for the next 6 years but statistically he is at the peaking age for forwards so odds are it’s only downhill from here.
81 goals in 81 games in the CHL has only been matched by future Hall of Famers and Benoit Pouliot in the modern era. He was in elite company and is showing it now in the nhl. He’s a perennial 30-40 goal scorer the next 10 years, imo.
