Should probably just go with the Gamecock logo. They used to be our satellite school, and their mascot is derivative of ours.

I have no idea what will happen, but I do know for a fact that FSU will not win the CWS. Could go undefeated through the supers and then go 0-2.

Checking in. Can't wait for the season to start. We had a good team last year (only one returning started i think). Lost to coastal in our super regional. We have a lot of guys returning from last year. Should be a good season.

Not sure how we'll do this year with Cannizzaro. After choking in the supers last year and with what we lost, not sure we'll make it to Omaha. Can't wait to watch Mangum hit though.

What is the 25% rule? I honestly have no idea.

Kendall is saying some smaller school coaches are against scrapping it so I guess I'm for keeping it in place.

Every scholarship player (max of 27, I think) has to get at least that much. In the past, the bigger schools could load up on better players and give them almost 100%, then give the rest a minimal percentage. Then they would "find" academic money for those that didn't get a high percentage. They were totally gaming the system. It still happens, but just less frequently.

Did a little researching on this, maybe I'm off so someone correct me if I am.

Seems to me that getting rid of the 25% minimum will help SEC/Big12/PAC/ACC schools and to a lesser extent, "tweener" schools like Tulane, USM, ECU, etc.

For example, you might have a situation where someone like a Presbyterian or USC Upstate offers a player 30-35% vs walking on at Clemson or South Carolina. So now CU/USC can offer 10-15% which could maybe sway a guy.

On a somewhat smaller scale, you could have Central Arkansas or Jacksonville State offering 40% to a guy vs Tulane or USM offering nothing. With this rule change, Tulane/USM could offer 15-20% and maybe steal a guy that would rather play CUSA/AAC ball over Southland/OVC for a little less money.

How about, we just give the baseball guys full scholarship instead of having 11.7 to split between the whole team? Revolutionary idea I know

A lot of very small schools (NEC, SWAC, WAC, etc) don't even meet the 11.7 requirement. Why raise the number if a lot of schools don't even hit the current number?

I understand the reasons why (Title IX) but at a school like South Carolina it seems super ridiculous the guys aren't on full scholly when the sport is as big as it is

Baseball is never going to go to 35 scholarships. Just not a big enough sport to where they give out that many schollies.

Right, but schools like South Carolina are in the minority. Only 21 schools had an average attendance of 3000+ last spring. It's just not a big sport outside of the SEC/Big12/ACC + plus a few CUSA/AAC/Sun Belt programs. Even power programs out west like UCLA and Fullerton have shit fan support.

FSU did this with Buster. He was offered full ride and since most of the other kids come from FL they can qualify for FL Academic scholar which can pay up to 75% of tuition so they can just offer 25% athletic scholarship and those guys are essentially full ride.

Speaking of FSU, they return essentially whole their staff except their closer. Outside of Sansone who was All ACC they return everyone on offense and got into school Top 40 player 3B Drew Mendoza who didn't sign. On paper it's their best team since 2008 who won two games in Omaha.

I'm for them offering more scholarships to players based on personal experience. Be of the current rule, msu offered me a walk on spot but could find academic money to help out. Being young and wanting to say that I signed a baseball scholarship I turned it down so I could get a full ride on a baseball at a D2 school. Hindsight I wish I would have taken the walk on offer to play where I really wanted. A buddy I played with "signed" with state but his scholarship was only for $500 a semester. Didn't even cover his books. The scholarships with baseball are a joke.
