Kind of silly before the draft deadline.
You're kind of silly.
This year the Michigan delegation would like to welcome you to your next Wolverine to hate
Buckeye fans what’s your take on next years team? Losing Bates-Diop and Tate along with holtmann settling in with his guys makes you guys an interesting follow. Do you expect to make a run at the B1G again or is making the tourney a realistic goal?
We lose Copeland and Palmer and win 12 games next year GBR
We’re going to blow
Addition by subtraction losing Johnson and Newkirk. Adding a RS Freshman big and get De'Ron back. Justin Smith gets another year in the weight room. Adding Romeo Langford (). And they say we're not top 3? #IndianaIncensed
You are saying you will be top 3?
As long as our bench can choreograph a couple of reactions to big plays, I think the sky is the limit.
Sneaky way to avoid the question, sir.
Jokes aside, I'd say we're top 5 without Romeo. With him, I think we are top 3 even if Nebraska brings everyone back.
Conference looks like a whole bunch of trash. Not too dissimilar from this year.
have to see what, if any, grad transfers we manage to get, but the round of 32 is probably next season's ceiling i would think. losing too many players and not enough proven talent to replace them yet. i think '19-'20 will be the breakthrough year for holtmann
The conference should be deeper I guess? I would think Wisconsin, Indiana, and Nebraska could be improved or at least the same.
But very weak at the top, is there anyone in the conference with a ceiling above a 3-seed? Michigan should be worse. Michigan State, Purdue, and Ohio State significantly worse. If Penn State really had a good player but he left, they're going to suck.
What does Maryland have coming back?
I didn't follow much non-UM basketball in the B1G, but a lot of people at BTN and several coaches (including Beilein) seemed to think Iowa was pretty talented and should be a lot better next year.
The Spartan dawgs should have started the thread. Regular season championship > conference championship.
Sorry but RalfBully has permabanned the Spartan “dawgs” from creating another basketball thread. We accepted those terms
well we can't be worse, hope to make the tourney
PSU will be solid next year. Another NIT/fringe bubble type team
If we can get a decent grad transfer guard, particularly one that can be a primary ball handler, I think we can rebound from last year pretty well and make a run at a tourney berth. Mason is gone, and he'll be tough to replace, but we will get Coffey and Eric Curry back from injury, and McBrayer should be healthier next year as well. We should have more front court depth with Murphy, Curry, top 50 recruit Daniel Oturu, and Louisville transfer Matz Stockman.
We absolutely need to get somebody who can run the point, though. All we have right now is Isaiah Washington, who was very up-and-down as a freshman. Even if he takes a step forward (which I think he will), there has to be someone else to help carry the load, as well as provide some insurance in case Washington gets hurt.
I do not expect MSU to be good at this sport next year
Do we only have to play the top 6 teams in conference 1 time?
We should take a step backwards. Holtmann still doesn't really have "his guys"...only has the guys that he was able to recruit after getting a job in June. Will still be fun to watch as he really starts to form the team though. Agreed with yaywaffles that the year after is when we should really see him make his mark....and that we really need at least a mediocre grad transfer or two for next year.
Idk but I’m sure our best players will sit on the bench for most of the games anyway
Sry wish we had another Dakich for you.
Michigan loses Abdur-Rahkman, Duncan Robinson, and Simmons to expired eligibility
Wagner is most likely gone
Charles Matthews will test the NBA waters before deciding if he’ll return.
That’s pretty much all our scoring from last year
Key guys coming back are Simpson, Poole, Livers, Teske and hopefully Matthews
Top incoming guys are Johns, DeJulius, and Brazdeikis.
We’ll still be solid on defense, maddingly inconsistent on offense and hoping everything comes together in 2019-‘20
Maryland should be improved.
If Wagner comes back, you guys are favorites. If not, you guys are trash like everybody else.
B1G with 7 teams in the Initial 2019 Bracketology from Lunardi:
Michigan State - 2 seed
Michigan - 3 seed
Ohio State - 6 seed
Purdue - 7 seed
Nebraska - 9 seed
Maryland - 10 seed
Penn State - 11 seed
I think we're overvalued at a 3. But MSU a 2???
OSU as a 6 seems very high to me.
That would be an absolutely dream scenario for Ohio State.....unless some big time impact transfers happen that are immediately eligible to play.
Agree with this take.
Conference looks bad next year.
all these predictions are pointless at this stage. Bball is nothing but transfers anymore and majority of those haven't happened yet. Not to mention draft candidates that are still in limbo.
B-ball is nothing but transfers anymore?
Yes, there are hundreds of transfers affecting about every program (whether coming or going). What do you not understand?
If Ward comes back, they’ll have the pieces with Winston and Langford playing like they should. I’m just hesitant to expect much out of any freshman before I see them play.
1) Marcus Bingham - tall and skinny. Supposedly can shoot the lights out.
2) Foster Loyer - Leprauchan person, but can shoot the ball as well as anyone MSU has had in 10+ years
3) Gabe Brown - coming off injury, but long and athletic. Supposed to be similar to a Raymar Morgan with maybe better handles.
4) Aaron Henry - long and an all around player. A lot of effort. Supposed to be the shut down defender the team needs.
5) Thomas Kithier - hopefully he goes the way of Austin Hatch.
