Not sure why you're getting offended about this.
The Mets have an...interesting roster makeup at this point. Real good value on Lowrie though.
So many infielders. At least they have depth now, which hasn't been the case in forever.
Wonder if the Brewers still had the $$ available for Lowrie, because he would have been a great fit.
Budget must be tight (at least for a stopgap piece)
Pulled this from the Jimmy Nelson article but holy crap at that Pedro line. His year 1 is better than most of the year 2s
nice to see these guys start to get paid a little bit.
Could he get $30M next year? That would destroy the record for a one-year deal, which I believe is currently $23M by Donaldson and maybe a few others.
don’t let user you and you know that players are getting paid
Would have never guessed Peavy, Liriano or Pedro would have been on that list. But then I also remembered that the third year was always magical for pitchers turning the corner.
Lemahieu to the Yankees.
I assume Torres to SS until Didi comes back.
Ends the yanks pursuit of Manny I guess
Congrats to non Yankee Machado pursuers.
Yea that's a wrap for Manny. Sigh.
Down to Phillies and White Sox?
And of course a *mystery team* or two.
Manny baby come home
I don't get that signing for the Yankees. I'm confused. Seems like both Lowrie and Marwin Gonzalez would have been better options for what they're apparently looking at.
I believe Liriano set the world on fire, then got hurt, then had another pretty good year but nothing like right when he came up
you guys worried about the outstanding rotation the rangers have put together?
about a 50/50 chance every single one of them are on the dl at the same time at some point
Interesting, another team going with the opener strategy
Too bad Jamie Garcia retired.
Rays are going into arbitration w Pham. Id pay a lot of money to be a fly on the wall.
Russell Martin going back to the Dodgers via trade
One less team for Realmuto or could they still add Realmuto and trade Barnes?
If the Dodgers want to trade for Realmuto, I highly doubt Russell Martin is going to stop them from doing so. I'm assuming Toronto will be eating at least $15M (and probably more) of his deal.
Realmuto just doesn't seem like a deal the dodgers make. Think they'd still rather make a deal for Kluber. But ya, not sure this stops that from happening. Just think Dodgers aren't interested in paying the king's ransom
The Barnes anecdote sounds like hot air. But the youngsters in 2020 is correct and one reason dodgers likely to move for JT
The arb system is still really stupid, but some pretty big gains have happened for some players in recent years.
I for one want the players making the minimum or just about to not have to wait 6 years before they get an increase in salary
nvm. I read that wrong.
The arb system is outdated. You can't use the kinds of advanced metrics to build a case to get paid that the teams are using to value players currently. Saying the arb system is stupid and archaic isn't the same as saying players should have to play for the minimum for 6 years.
Higher arb numbers will force cheap teams to sell players earlier
I'm hoping higher arb numbers makes owners more willing to discuss changes to the system that could allow for earlier free agency (like restricted FA after year 4 with qualifying offers similar to the NFL for years 5 and 6 rather than arbitration). At the very least, that would give the players a little more leverage to negotiate long term deals early and avoid some of the awful deals that guys like Jose Ramirez signed.
Of course he’s sporting a Duke dri-fit
What is he even doing that he's talking to the press on January 11th?
What would happen if someone like Bryant after winning MVP held out and said I'm not reporting without a contract for my remaining controllable years at market value? We see underpaid players in other sports do this. Is there teeth in the CBA that prevents this from happening or have young players just been bullied by veterans for generations to wait their turn?
Or Chris Sale, I know I signed a cheap deal before, but I want a new deal now that pays me for what I am.
MLBTR arb projection was $6.6M. Guess “stupid money” has a limit.
i’ll never understand teams being cunts over a few mil when it comes to their star players
Braves went to it last year over $100k with Foltynewicz. Petty as hell. So lame.
I think the Nola thing might be tied to not wanting to set precedent. Thought this was an interesting tweet from Passan, and I wonder if they just didn't want to be a team that pushed that money up for players across the board. I agree that I don't get why clubs do this with their best players, though.
