overvaluing prospects is about one thing: making people mad on message boards
I kind of get what he's saying, but what he's talking about isn't an MLB thing. Look at the 76ers/Hinkie. Somewhere along the way, fans wanted to become as analytical as the teams they cheer for. I don't think that's a terrible thing, even if it means I'm confused from time to time why some fans don't ever want to trade prospects or go as far as possible to try to win a tittle.
I don't think it's about analytics when it comes to the fans, its always easy to sell people on the future being better than the present. This board is literally a product of a site that does just that.
blake swihart is still untouchable in my eyes
More interesting to follow is whether teams trading on the front end of the winter period will drive down the prices for some of the big free agent guys. Seems to be creating leverage for some teams
I think the narrative of "Does this move bring us closer to winning a championship" got over used/exaggerated to only contenders or fringe contenders should ever improve their current roster. There is some value to making incremental improvements along the way.
Jared Diamond tweets about baseball?
He's on Brian Kenny's show from time to time
Worst talking head in baseball.
Chris Russo die?
Ok, they both suck but for different reasons.
Even though he’s a host shoot Scott Braun into the sun
I DVR Hot Stove and MLB Now every day. Any time Braun or Fran Charles hosts either it's an auto-delete because they're both horrible. Robert Flores is the only acceptable replacement host on MLBN.
It's his undying, unwavering love of analytics that irritates the fuck out of me. Analytics are nice, but they are far from perfect like he seems to think they are.
Braun is just awful.
There is no worse feeling than getting home from work, going to the DVR to watch MLB Now, and see Scott Braun's stupid face filling in.
The worst thing MLB Network did was the show where Kenny debated Reynolds. Leave that point/counterpoint bullshit with ESPN and FS1. It made them both look bad
Going from the all star break, thinking the playoffs are finally a possibility (and that it’s about time Felix's lifeless corpse gets to finally experience the postseason, after giving Seattle countless years of the only thing that made the Mariners exciting) to where we’re at now....God damn this shit sucks.
Bring on at least another 5 years of suck.
Omar Minaya gained like 800 lbs and has to sit at the same table as Brodie. Gotta be rough.
Omar Minaya being back with the Mets and having any influence at all is one of those things that seems to only happen with about 5 organizations in all of pro sports.
seal the deal THOME!
Seems like Harper's market is bigger than Machado's, especially if Philly isn't all in on Manny.
I’d be able to casually follow Bryce’s career with little to no impact or grudges if he went to the white Sox. All for it.
the Flyers lead the way in that department.
the Phillies should send Meek Mill.
Good job good effort... not sure how you compete w Nelly tho.
Bryce Harper was 7 years old when Country Grammar was released.
Not sure that’s the case. I don’t think either wants to be first. Whoever signs second will have more leverage.
so Corbin has signed for 6 years but no team named.
Need to check the flight logs.
would be shocked If it weren't the phillies
Nats it is wow
Oh wow Nats
So 6/130 for Corbin? Pass.
Happ yes, Eovaldi no. Been there, done that.
Glad the Phillies didn't lock up all that capital in Corbin. He's great but they have so many young arms and like zero impact position prospects. Buy the bats.
I think it’s a bit more than that.
I saw more than 6/126. I'm out at that number, much less way more. He was solid, not great, prior to last year. I'm not giving him $130m for one great year.
Astros appear to be out of the Realmuto sweepstakes now
6/140? $23.3m a year? Sheesh.
so do the Nats have the money for Harper as well?
They made their offer to him it seems like.
If I'm the Nats and want to resign one of my home grown guys, I'm putting my eggs into the "try to lock up Rendon long term this winter" basket rather than pay the price for Harper. Redon is probably better, anyway, and he's likely to come cheaper if he's willing to do something now.
Giving Corbin the extra year or two is rough, but I like that Washington is still going for it while Scherer is still an ace. That rotation was garbage last year.
