During the 2 month long hot streak, the bullpen's peripherals were not great. This week those peripherals have been manifesting. Not fun. Much needed day off. Still in playoff position, somehow.
Cards strand so many runners at 3rd with less than one out, it seems the approach is way off instead of just slapping it somewhere with two strikes in those situations
this is a theme with the dodgers as well. I see STL is 12th in BA with RISP. LAD is 25th. exciting 4 game series starting today.
It's a pretty fair trade. Weaver struggled last year, but he can be a nice end of the rotation starter with lots of control left. Kelly - Cards kind of broke him. Im glad for him he'll have an opportunity to develop. As long as Molina is here, it's going to be hard to ease a new catcher into the fold. For better or worse. Probably for worse after this year. Kninzer should be ready by that time. Hopefully. Andy Young is a really nice utility guy, but again, Cards have a few of those in the system. The Comp pick sucks to lose, but could get it back if Goldschmidt leaves. Cards gave up some nice pieces, but nothing that's going to sting too bad if they cant work out an extension
And now that there is an extension - it's a great trade. Feel pretty good about the team this year. First time in a while.
I've really liked Goldy for years, so I'm excited to have one of my favorite players on the Cards again and for years to come.
Yea. It was a lot of fun. We only stayed through the 5th bc they pulled the good pitchers and it got chilly and windy. And yes, that happened
I love Bob Gibson as much as the next Cardinals fan, but good god, Dan is fellating him. It's awkward.
He's not what we all hoped he'd be, but it's not like they gave up anything that hurts. Worth the gamble that he'd be good.
super frustrating they didn't push harder for Yelich instead. They're so risk averse they end up half assing it. Going back would anyone not move Reyes for Yelich? Happy with what they did with Goldy, though.
Yelcih wasnt available when trading for Ozuna. Marlins were going to hang on to him, but then he started pushing for the trade after Ozuna and Stanton were gone. It sucks. But it's hard to fault the for guaranteeing themselves Ozuna over a hypothetical chance at Yelich.
Think that was all posturing. There's no way they suddenly decided he could be traded and didn't realize he'd not want to hang around once everyone was traded. The Brewers ponied up Brinson and got the deal done.
Always chuckle at the old guys getting out the back of convertibles. But at least give Lou a golf cart.
At least they let him be last so he didnt have to stand there forever. But Whitey was 3rd. Had to stand there leaning on his cane the entire time.
That ridiculous play aside - pleasant surprise taking the first two of the series. Also - Dylan Carlson took Kershaw deep tonight in Springfield. In Peoria, Gorman is off to a scorching start. 18 year olds are suppose to handle A ball pitching like this. Delvin Perez has had a hot start at the plate as well. Really good sign. That Peoria team is a fun look to the future in 2-3 years (hopefully)
trying to not get too hyped up about Gorman, but good chance he ends up being our best middle of the lineup hitter for a long time.
