my all time NBA team
PG: Luka Doncic
SG: Drazen Petrovic
SF: Giannis Antetokounmpo
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Arvydas Sabonis
main subs would be Manu and Vlade
if you're just going physically unstoppable at their peak type big where you can change their behaviors to suit the case you can't ignore Wilt
Imagine having a second go at everything and MJ still going #3...
was Wilt actually good or was he good because he was a 7’0” black dude going up against vastly inferior in size white dudes
The size differences between eras isn't as big as you'd think
Pretty cool charts. The weight different over the years at every position as players have learned to add muscle mass is pretty crazy.
I wonder if the height standardization the NBA put in this year where you can't wear huge sneakers has moved it much
So you're telling me there's a chance...
I would say the same thing about George Mikan as well
Also a good answer
Prime Shaq was a fukkin force though. A complete bully down low
A relatively slimmed down version surrounded by 4 3 point shooters
MJ had the greatest career, but you gotta pick the freaks first right?
with mikan the league being pre-integration for most his peak is the biggest issue with comps
This is what Orlando tried to do with prime Dwight, only they spent too much money on the shooters.
So the basically the 09 Magic?
I've been fusiontegra'd
I was about to take offense to that comparison but damn
Dwight was never the offensive player Shaq was but at his peak he was better defensively by a lot
Dwight has becoming incredibly underrated
i never understood how after years of working on his offensive game he still looked so stiff
one of my favorite ongoing storylines was how player x was "working with hakeem" in the offseason and then they came back the next year looking the exact same
it's interesting how some types of attention-seeking makes players endearing and some makes players hated
i always thought the black mamba stuff was extremely forced and corny but people love kobe for it. dwight was goofy and immature and people hated him for it. obviously kobe has the titles, etc
Dwight was the 00s Embiid.
hindsight and whatnot but i kind of like dwight more because at least it seemed like he was having fun. embiid's smartass act has gotten pretty stale for me
Lowe/Chuck pod is really good. Lowe is one of the best at subtly and inoffensively calling people out on their bullshit. Also a good short recap of basically the two arguments around the NBA restarting and with knowing how plugged in to the league office Lowe is gives real insight.
Simmons/Russillo treating every word Jordan says in the doc as gospel is bizarre even when the evidence or any reasonable logic to support it. Only just started that one.
I think Russillo sees Jordan be that guy while being that good at basketball and thinks "if I was that good at anything, that's who I'd want to be."
i think Simmons is just too close to the director to criticize it.
I think both of them ended up leaving stuff on the table and opened themselves up to look stupid by taping their pods right after stuff ended rather than waiting until the next day for some of the fact checking to come out. They still won, though, because I ended up listening to all their post-Last Dance pods. I didn't think they were bad. They just took everything said by Jordan in them way too seriously.
posting here too. maybe the best piece of sports journalism i've ever seen. set aside like an hour to read it as its long as hell. wright just dunking on the doc.
this is a really great article. but i have no idea how it, "dunks on the doc." because you liked it more? it's more thorough, a deep dive into some of Jordan's past?
i don't know a single person in real life who, after reading that article, would state that. is it just an internet thing where everything is comparative? when i read your post, i thought thompson was doing an expose on the lies and flaws of the last dance.
its a much superior piece of media
so sure, comparative to a doc produced by the same media company finished a couple days ago
7' dude with a reported 40" vertical.
This is just confusing
Look at the possessions in the 60’s!
Watching hardwood classics with my coffee this morning it’s the Pacers vs Knicks game 5 in 94-95 playoffs.
The Garden is electric. I miss basketball.
Add in the weight difference though. Wilt was a giant. Go look back at the non-Russell players he went against. He had 3-4 inches on most and more than 50 pounds on basically everyone.
Wilt is one of the best players ever, yes, but Kareem and Shaq should both be clearly above him.
The whole league back then was a volume shooting player. Rebounds were through the roof because shooting over 40% was an accomplishment for most.
I fuckin loved KMart.
One of his kids has a weakened immune system
the jazz are pretty fucked if ingles doesn’t play and mitchell and gobert hate each other now
Really hyped for Gordon Hayward to drink hydroxychloroquine on the bench during a game and call people wearing masks sheep
The rumors seem to be going around that they're hoping to play games again in early/mid-July. That's four months since the last game. This just seems stupid, even when you ignore the health risks. Is the expectation they only play a few regular season games before the playoffs? Or that they'll play as much as the remainder of the schedule as possible? They might be playing into October if they try to play more than 3-5 regular season games.
I also can’t wait to hear cunty writers like Windhorst and McMahon bitch about not getting a summer break
should've had the media vote for the champion like college football, would've been like the 90s steroid era of baseball but for talking head shows and blogs
or just have Adam Silver personally present LeBron the title like when Eric Bischoff just gave the revived World Title belt to Triple H
iirc the hinted idea is largely straight to playoffs, start to finish in 8 weeks after a small training camp-esque period
