Huh? I think I started it. It was Farva and the "take soccer to the soccer board" dweebs that ruined it. I tell ya, I get blamed for EVERYTHING.
I feel like after like an 8 goal lead you should be able to make unlimited subs or something. I see how its an advantage for a future match but you've earned an advantage after that.
At which point the us brings on Pugh who scored twice. We probably could have had someone else play who may not get a chance instead of Carli though.
Also underrated at the second half just started on fs1...the uniform combo of red vs light blue. Such a good look for a soccer match.
Hate on me but didn't feel all that great about the celebrations at that point. My travel team when I was 10 years old could have competed vs Thailand today. Hopefully gives them confidence though after a shitty run up to the tourney.
Classless is a bit much but they want equality and every male team in every sport would be bashed like crazy if they celebrated while destroying a team like that.
Ronaldo/Messi (or anyone) would be shredded if they celebrated like that so it’s not some misogynist take or something.
I’ve got the girls backs as far as celebrations go. World Cup goals matter. If it’s your first or your 30th it’s still a special moment. That’s something you’ve dedicated your entire life for and if you want to celebrate it than celebrate it. As soon as the whistle blew all of those ladies made sure to console their opponent. Did you see Alex and that younger Thai girl that was crying? That was beautiful sportsmanship. I’ll use some local bias here and tell a quick story. Roger Espinoza was asked about the game. He played in 2 world cups. In one of them, Honduras didn’t score a single goal in their 3 matches. He said Spain went up on them 2-0, and then possessed the ball the entire second half and they were so embarrassed because they knew Spain wasn’t even trying and they still couldn’t touch the ball. He said he’d much rather lose 10-0 then have the other squad treat them like they didn’t even belong there.
and stop having dumb fucking rules like goal differential and (very) limited subs. you can cap GD at like 5 and then allow unlimited subs after a certain time and a certain margin in score and then you don't have world class players forced to be on the field for 90+ minutes against college players and secretaries from countries who are newly invested in the sport on a worldwide level. this is the same trash-level mindset people used with the Dream Team when they stomped Angola by like 80 points like what do people expect to happen? all this in a series of games that take place so sparingly many players usually only have a handful of chances at most to participate like fuck off with this "act like you've been there" bullshit.
Fuck them. Little sister syndrome to the max. Talk about “class” or “embarrassing”? This is the team/federation/fans that were dropping n bombs to Syd after she chose US>Can and scored a stoppage time goal vs them.
When I was 10-13 my small ass BESTern Nebraska team had to play a lot of Denver teams that would get up 5-0 and then possess and it was humiliating. Far worse than continuing to press, at least then you have some hope of countering and enjoying your day out playing a bit.
Exactly. Just passing around the back and keeping 90% possession is equivalent to take a knee every down starting in the 3rd. Or putting the bat on you shoulder and refusing to swing from the 5th inning on.
my brother-in-law is the OC at my city's local HS. this HS is really good in football (as in like half of the last 20ish state titles). they don't run a gimmick offense or never punt or always go for 2 or anything suggesting RUTS, they just have an amazing support system in the city. a couple years ago they played another area team who is just your average HS team, sometimes good and sometimes bad. they got up 77-0 at the half, although there was a fumble-6, two pick-6s and a bad punter that basically handed them starting field position on the 30 all half long. all starters got pulled at half, all backups were pulled at the start of the 4th and my BIL ran the exact same 3 players all half (dive, counter, toss sweep) and there was no more scoring and I guarantee you that was way more embarrassing to those kids than the wild shit that happened in the first half.
True, those would be a dick moves, but they can also not go 110% like Rapinoe and others and not try world class moves. Plus the celebrations at that point were over the top. They were meaningless goals. It's like like it's one extreme or another, you can not score that many goals without completely sandbagging.
That’s more like a rapist trying to console his victim. That’s the last thing I would want after the match if I was a Thai girl.
Spain-Germany shaping up like a great match. Spanish team looking outstanding, some great movement and passing
Spain has skill but their decision-making is still developing. Just slow to make decisions on this level.
So goal #11, which was the first WC goal by Mallory Pugh, should she not celebrate or is achieving something she spent a lifetime working towards OK? Let's be honest, the rout was so bad this was the story everyone decided to talk about because there wasn't anything else and people have to talk about something because they need validation on their opinions. the people that got the ball rolling on this on TV or in print have to find something to fill air time or fill a column for the day and this is it. it's trivial, nothing about this matters in the end, nobody's going to remember anything about the celebrations, it's people needing shit to talk about because the game ended 13-0.
Think she meant to ease it out with the instep and it hit her heel, terrible loss of concentration but glad to have it for the rest of the match
