Yelich $188.5 million contract extension officially official

[Heyman] Yelich has the $12.5M and $14M years from his old deal for 2020 and 2021. Then 2022 to 2028 at $26 mil, then mutual option for 2029 at $20M with a $6.5M buyout. That is how it gets to $215M. Then it could be $228.5 with mutual option.

Nice to see the Angels complete a thorough investigation on their own and fire the visiting clubhouse manager because he was giving shit to visiting pitchers to doctor the ball.

I’d completely forgotten that MLB is going to a 3 batter minimum unless the inning ends this year. It’s going into effect on March 12.

I don't really understand why ESPN keeps doing this as an alternate broadcast. Not sure what they gain from it. By only doing StatCast broadcasts this way, seems like the only thing they're really accomplishing is making the criticism of their main team louder.

Overall I think I'm a fan of the 3 batter rule but it's going to create some shitty spots. Bottom 8, up 1, 1st batter singles, 2nd batter doubles, now men at 2nd and 3rd and you have to leave that pitcher in. Woof.

davey Martinez spoke about it on local radio last week. Gonna be tough on emerging guys with great stuff but shaky consistency like our tanner Rainey

A lot of people still don't like all of the statcast stuff. Mostly old people but that's a large piece of their audience. By going this route you get to choose which one you want to watch.

Seems like a rather exciting spot from baseball's perspective :idk:

I think this rule would have mattered more 10 years ago than it does today. Teams don't seem like they're doing the match-up thing like they used to now that everyone throws 98 out of the pen.

I get that, but the people who are going to watch StatCast are probably watching no matter what. If you're Vasgersian and ARod, you're probably not thrilled about them continuing to do this. I'm just not sure what ESPN gains from doing this consistently. I'd prefer they just give them random Wednesday night games on their own for a year and see what the feedback is.

Jayson Stark has a good article on the Athletic about the presumed positives and negatives.

Overall, I’m hoping it will improve the watchability of games past the 5th inning. It really was a problem that manager could take a high leverage situation and turn it into a 25 minute process by changing pitchers each AB.

I‘m sure there will be some unintended consequences, so we’ll see what happens.

I could see where they might gain viewership because of it. I don't watch a ton of Sunday night baseball (compared to weekdays) because of family shit. I'd be more likely to tune in for Petriello. Can ESPN find as many net + viewers like that compared to whatever the hell else they'd have on ESPN 2 on a Sunday night?

Maybe MV and ARod don't mind it because they don't have to be forced to cater to that audience if it doesn't come natural to them.

    I think that’s a feature, not a bug.

The part I hate is giving umpires discretion about whether a pitcher can be pulled due to injury. There is no way the umpire can make that call. They should just require a DL stint if you come out early.

The umpire should not be a position to make that call. The fact that MLB continues to be this dumb is mind boggling to me. They are up there with the FA in terms of idiocy.

And it's always the same formula.

Seemingly minor injury. Team says it's nothing major, will be back soon. Then there's a setback. Then further inspection reveals they are falling apart and need surgery.

The Yankees don't do minor injuries anymore.

I could be wrong, but isn’t it the netting that is making it look weird? Seems like most of those comments are actually from dumbasses who don’t see the netting...

Am I supposed to be looking at the object that’s 500 feet away from the camera above or through the net?

I’d like to know what the depth of field is for that camera. He has objects which are over 400 ft apart from each other with some objects much closer to the lens than others. Could it just not be in focus due to this fact. I read the comments to be about pixelation and not smudges, and I associated that with the netting. You may be right. I don’t have great eyes nor know enough about lenses and photography to speak knowledgeably. Just thought it sounded like a bunch of dumb people piling on Heyman (not that he doesn’t deserve it) on twitter again.

Look at third base, which is much closer and between the nets

    it’s just a shitty photo

My eyes must suck or I don’t know what to expect from camera phones as I thought 3b looked ok. Not really trying to defend Heyman or the photo, as I agree it’s not a great photo. I just didn’t understand why the twitter comments didn’t disappoint. No need to stay on this dumb topic.

Yea that's the worst part. Both should have probably had surgery last year or at least in the offseason.

The Severino one really hurts because he'd have missed this year anyway but if he'd have had TJ after the season he might have been ready to go or pretty close by next year.
