How long have you been attending festivals? Not being dismissive, but rather curious. The lineups have changed dramatically over the past decade and even more so over the past five to be more tailored to mainstream and faddy music.
I think the first was 2006. That said, my sample size isn't huge. I'm talking about the personal experiences I've had at festivals, and if traveling the world and being a literal nomad has taught me anything, people aren't that different once you get past stereotype prejudice. I know I used to have it without realizing or having bad intentions.
same damn jam band festival diff time of year. Great for those that live in that area, would not travel for. guys please note I live 30 minutes from Red Rocks, and 5 minute walk from the Ogden and Filmore theaters. There is no need for me to travel for a music festival. EVERYTHING comes to me
2011 Hangoutfest was the first time I noticed a real emergence in DJ acts: bassnectar, pretty lights, big gigantic - were all there. But those were pretty much it that year. This year probably half the card was DJ/Electronic
First was a move to bring on older, nostalgia based acts that had no business on a current festival lineup, which still happens a lot Then was the move to electronic about 5 years ago. Metallica and Pearl Jam were headliners at Bonaroo 08 for example.
don't miss these acts (electronic) Odesza (not the best LIVE act, but they make QUALITY music) Neon Indian is a chillwave band, supposed to be a really good live act hudson mohawke makes trap friendly beats big freedia = booty bass Slow Magic is quality downtempo BADBADNOTGOOD is a jazztronica 3 piece band Snakehips is a up and coming hip hop electronic duo. They don't rap, but they make super tight beats Really want to see D'Angelo FFF is a quality festival.
Lots of SXSW redux, but that's not real surprising. Lots of business gets done then. Gesaffelstein, Toro y Moi and Gogol Bordello should be great. Will see Cheap Trick just for the absurdity of it all.
would love if any combination of Schoolboy, Odesza, chromeo, and neon indian were on the same day and not saturday when I'll be in college station. would be worth a 1-day pass. I think those went for ~$50 around gametime last year
I don't see his music translating well to a live show and I don't think I would go to those two mentioned
they were 4pm on sunday at acl last year and we left after ~5 songs because it was bleh. part of it I'll attribute to the mid-afternoon lull and not being dark + lights and stuff. Chvrches was downright awful and the only reason people stayed was to get a good spot for gambino/outkast. they were also in a 4pm slot though
My next one is in a month. Super stoked to catch a festival at The Gorge... Here's the lineup :hatersgonnahategif:
absolutely nothing will make me stop using that onomatopoeia when referring to DJ/Dubstep so you better visit: http://www.lifelinesys.com/content/
1. it is untz not untss 2. you have terrible taste in music 3. i hate your bama flip 4. your brother's wife has some big ole titties 5. I still though
Probably... He sure as hell was on Sunday. A chick I know took a video of it... It was awesome. I'd post it, if I could upload .MOV's from the board.
I've seen both multiple times and they can be very good live. Chrvches really depends on what part of the tour you see them. By the end of the last tour her voice seemed pretty shot, which makes sense, they'd been touring almost non-stop for about two and a half years. I saw them early in the tour and in the middle and it was great.
I'll be your festy besty anytime. We can untss untss all over the place then go back to our house full of ridiculous women and hair flip our way into their insides.
I like both phantogram and chvrches studio albums... they just didn't really bring shit when I saw them live. Added the caveat above that both playing at 4pm time slots of a music festival may have affected my enjoyment. I talked up Chvrches to my crew for ACL and they randomly drop ice burns about how bad the show was when I talk up shows in town now
I've seen both at festivals and at clubs, their shows are better at clubs, but I've enjoyed the three times I've seen each of them.
Seeing both at 4pm when you also don't get their light show would be bad. Also ACL is usually at the end of a tour with how late the dates are
feel like I've been robbed. mid-day sunday shows are the worst so Phantogram is getting a full pass since so many said they're good. Chvrches was dogshit though for real
Was hoping FFF would get me to Austin this year, but not enough there for me :( Blue stage headliners are week, Venom and Jane's Addiction don't excited, D'Angelo will be at FYF, Coheed, GB and DLJ don't strike me as far left artists, just seems like there's something missing. A lot to enjoy on the undercard but won't get me to fly from CA.
