is it bad when the team you're playing against has a guy with 11 points and 5 boards in the 1st quarter?
not that anyone really matches up with giannis but this blazers team is particularly bad. he just touched cj with his arm and cj moved 5 feet backwards. bucket. 17-20.
is giannis physical enough to play in the 80s and 90s? survey says yes blazers broadcasters calling for them to take the starters out. never would have happened with mike and mike
covington has been pretty damn good on defense this year imo and giannis scored on him at the hoop like he was a child about 5 minutes ago
giannis finishes 18-21 from the floor and 11-13 from the line for 47. one of the most physically dominant offensive games i've seen in some time also added 12 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal
i feel no shame. this was an incredible offensive game. portland was literally giving him layups because they knew he'd just finish either way. jusef nurkic is a giant man, the internet says 7 feet tall and 290lbs, and giannis scored on him at the rim easily numerous times he also did this
the woj pod has a story about how giannis was drafted and came here that's worth listening to if you're into that stuff. this dude was 100% ready to just stay in greece if his family couldn't get u.s. passports
Let me decipher this, Giannis got drafted, but if his family couldn't come to the US he would have stayed in Europe. Makes sense and also a good negotiation tactic on getting his brothers drafted/contracts.
Shit Thanasis is on the Bucks only for the reason the Bucks could sign Giannis long term. It's the old recruiting tactic of signing the shitty brother to get the 5 star brother to sign.
this is pre-draft. it's been a few months since i listened to it, but iirc basically he said that if his brothers couldn't get on the plane with him to come here for some workouts, he would have just stayed in greece.
giannis stuff he worked out with the hawks and they were trying to keep it secret as fuck. giannis and the family that could get passports stayed at danny ferry's house. imagine what this looks like if you're like starvation-poor from somewhere else. he and his brothers said they were keeping every pair of shoes they could get their hands on, because nikes in size 16 or whatever were not common in their life not sure if his life pre-nba is known at all, but from that pod it seems like his family made a living from selling stuff to tourists. as in, the whole family including giannis after practice, every day. he shared his "nutrition plan" provided by the team he signed with when he was like 13 with his brothers, evenly. there's also some technical bullshit that prevented him and his brothers from being legal greek citizens, even though they were born there, which complicated him trying to play basketball here. tldr: giannis rules
i'm pretty sure the blazers have the very worst player of all time in the nba rostered right now. and he just so happens to be dame's cousin. guy wasn't very good even at low level college and is in the nba
As far as my knowledge goes (please correct me if I am wrong) but American citizenship is guaranteed if you are born on US soil (I know this part), but in Europe some countries have other requirements outside of being born on the soil, so citizenship isn't guaranteed. They also will change this if you are really good at sports. It also gets a bit funny when countries like France have easy immigration laws for former colonies. Greece requires parents to be naturalized before the child is born. I could be wrong on this stuff but this is what I remember from looking up shit years ago and a quick google to try and verify.
i'm slow and somehow i didn't pick up on him being dame's cousin that wiggins block in the second video still fine with him being on the roster if it keeps dame happy
Edit add on: Giannis played his cards right and he got his brothers who were Euroleague or G League players NBA contracts. So props to him.
iirc his parents would be what we call "undocumented" here they were not legally greek citizens, even though they had lived and worked there for decades. this is a problem if you're trying to get a passport
Yeah I remember seeing that too. Even though they were born on Greek soil they weren't Greek (sounds dumb to us Americans), but they were not technically Greek. Because they were good at basketball they were granted citizenship. This is a side note, but there are a lot of naturalized citizens for European countries for basketball reasons in league or national teams. Lots of guys you remember in college or random dudes who moved to Europe and crushed it so they get citizenship for playing on Partizan Belgrade and then play for the Serbian national team.
