If a bunch of schools cancel their seasons now, I'm curious what the NCAA does as far as eligibility is concerned. If a kid plays 1/3 or less of a season and then his season is canceled, would they give that player his year of eligibility back? Or just say "tough shit" to everyone? I'm expecting the latter, but would imagine there will be a lot of people pushing for getting that year back.
My last year of baseball in college was cut short from a knee injury and family health issues. Hated giving it up and not a day goes by that I wish I could get on the field one more time. If my last year was taken away bc of this I would be devastated. Can’t imagine what the seniors are feeling.
My guess on their thinking is that there's no baseball being played so they can't have a tournament for it
I'm hopeful that everyone will have their eligibility restored if they want it. But also don't force juniors back if they want to enter the draft next year instead of playing another year in college.
The junior thing is a MLB rule, not a NCAA rule. That wouldn't affect them at all. If anything, it could give the players more leverage to negotiate if they wanted it. I think the messier thing would be with schools bringing in recruiting classes and how they would split up the scholarship money.
Not sure how this will work as expected departing players scholly money is promised to guys coming in next year. Total clusterfuck.
Assuming conferences across the board choose to shut it down because there won't be a tournament, I'm curious if a bunch of showcase games pop up in May/early June for draft eligible guys if the situation improves to where such things are possible.
I’m officially crowning the Gators the champs. Sorry the rest of you losers had to find out this way.
Per NCAA: it will be appropriate to grant relief for the use of a season of competition for SAs who have participated in spring sports
It's gonna be weird, you have your incoming class already signed and most teams don't have seniors that are going pro and would come back to play. That being said base a and it's weird scholarship rules is gonna make this tough. Maybe you are allowed to honor whatever the senior had the year before. So of they got .25 scholarship. Last year that's all you can give them, but it doesn't count towards your max. Gonna get real interesting to see that play out
I am hoping they give schools leniency on scholarships next so guys can use a redshirt or come back if they want. Not their fault at all.
I'm hoping they force our draft eligible players to come back next year if I want them to. Not my fault at all
The draft will be interesting, because now those seniors will have leverage. Won't be able to really low-ball them in rounds 5-10 like in the past few years.
Sankey hasn't completely pulled the plug on a SEC Baseball season and tournament. Now, the date keeps getting shifted back more and more. In return it reduces the idea that it actually happens.
From the quotes I've read, it seemed that away. some ADs and Sankey were unhappy there was no communication from the NCAA about immediately shutting it all down. They seemed to be in favor of postponement.
