Fuck that. $250K isn’t much relatively. Especially if you are a sole provider with a family

edit: and most certainly isn’t if you live in a state or area with a high COL

Not in the big picture. Those people don't matter nearly as much as the ones skating on taxes while making multiple millions a year.

there’s always someone making more and we should absolutely raise their taxes but if you’re pulling a million every couple of years you make a lot of money and you should pay more too. you’re firmly entrenched in the top at that point imo

like how are you selling yourself as the party of the working class if no new taxes under 400k is your platform. i get that the more meaningful piece of the pie is going to come from those well above that mark but it’s just super out of touch messaging imo.

Maybe one of our problems is the fact that the vast majority of Americans will view 250K as the richest person they know when in reality Bezos makes that much in a sneeze.

if you’re pulling a million dollars every few years good for you i don’t want to knock the hustle but you live an exceedingly comfortable lifestyle regardless of where you live.

i want to spend your money so some kids can go to the doctor though. i want to spend jeff bezos’ money first but if that runs out you’re up. you’ll be fine.

    Relatively. ie relative to what/where?

Most families need two incomes. If a single earner is making 250k, that’s great money anywhere. There are like 5 metro areas in the US where 250k for a household of 4 doesn’t get you everything you want. Other spouse should pull their bootstraps and get to work.

median income in the US like ~$35,000. i don’t know what the cutoff should be but there’s a pretty fucking egregious disparity between 35 and 400k

It’s mental to me that trump is literally not good at business and commits fraud and launders money.

And he took a warm economy and made it hot by doing the OPPOSITE of what conservatives care about—blowing the deficit and not paying it down. Fucking juiced the stock market with huge cuts to companies. Fed helps him out.

And now, since his inept leadership is exacerbating a health crisis, causing 100k+ deaths and massive unemployment, this motherfucker is still somehow seen as “good on the economy”.

$300k in SF & $300k in KC are totally different. I dont think youre wrong fwiw

Relatively to being able to buy a solid house in a nice area and raising kids. And not sure if that’s true regarding the ‘only 5 metro area’ piece nowadays, though I do agree on 2 people in the household having jobs (though again, that’s easier said than done). ITP Atlanta is ridiculous right now for a small shit house in a decent neighborhood.

I’m not saying those people are going to struggle to put food on the table. But raising taxes on them - I think thats BS. As you get to the $500K+ (Dual or single) area, it’s certainly warranted

Anything he proposes is going to impact down ballot races. People will vote on economic interests things in shambles. 400k is a lot of money for a family of 4. Like someone else said, increase taxes on the group that literally no one will care about you doing so on first.

$300k is technically rich, but its not nearly fuck you rich. Rich people should pay their fare share, but fuck you rich people are the problem. They use their wealth and power to shit on everyone else.

Ya I pulled 5 out of my ass, it’s probably more. Ultimately there will be educated suburbs to households making 300k in high COL areas and they’ll be like “gee I hate trump. But I’m gonna have to vote for him bc I don’t like this economy and can’t see my taxes go up more”. And that could end up impacting House races.

If working class Americans cared as much as ashy is saying, they’d virulently hate the gop. They don’t.

Again, raise money on the highest earners.

I wouldn't have a problem paying higher taxes if was actually used on something of value. Not Trump playing golf or Pompeo throwing dinner parties trying to line up his ascension in the GOP.

I think Biden killed it with his “not raising taxes for people not making over $400K” as a good chunk of those people I’d assume are moderates. Unfortunately for him, it got overshadowed today by his interview where he made the dumbass comment. Shit, the taxes part got my attention for sure.

I don’t even know if it’s true because I’m not a gun guy, but I think that’s a major reason why most of middle class America will stick with the GOP. Because there’s no way that they are gonna touch guns. Too much to lose from that, and some of those people love their guns. Also abortion. Big stickler with extended members of my family and the only reason that they vote GOP as they are very catholic

400k isn’t something you announce on Friday if you want it to be in the news—anything on a Friday. The gaffe will fade but the policy will carry through.

I dont think its terrible policy per se, but the phrasing/framing of it was piss poor. I would also argue that 95% of national politicians are out of touch.

It’s not just with Catholics. I’m in Utah. It’s heavily Latter Day Saints. They hate Trump... but Democrats are the party of abortion. Abortion seems to dominate every ideology here. It’s the single issue upon which Utah is the most Republican of States. Guns are very secondary to abortion here.

And yet many GOP politicians hate planned parenthood or funding programs that help would help women and lower abortions.

Colorado basically made birth control free for anyone who needed it & the amount of abortions went down 57% over 5 years. I think they funded a couple of other mother/family programs, but thats a significant #.

I was very briefly being paid something that extrapolated to around 200k a year and it was genuinely transformative to try and imagine people making that every year. Unless you want to live in Palo Alto, if you're making 200k as an individual you are or will be what I'd consider "the rich".

Fair and honestly I can only break it down anecdotally, but in my first couple years of consulting a couple of my bosses def pulled that (Director level). One of them lived in NJ and was the most frugal/vocal dude I knew when we weren’t on the expense account. Would always complain about how every expense that comes with living in NJ limits him (wife stopped working after the had kids)

Id assume in the high COL areas property taxes can be absurd in addition to everything else
