This. Spent two hours last night researching French chateau fixer-uppers just in case
Has Kamala done these with him? Seems like Warren has raised a fuck load of money for him since the primary campaign essentially ended
She couldn't even raise money for herself
I mean, no. But it seems highly unlikely. Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, are three races where the democratic challenger is certainly running ahead of Biden. I'd probably throw Maine and Montana in there as well.
I've not seen any polls out of Alabama about Doug Jones vs Tubberville recently.
You’re much too old to be this optimistic in radical change by the Democratic Party.
Maybe you're too young to remember when Dems actually did Big Things
We're reaching a breaking point
I'm reading Dark Money very slowly, because each chapter pisses me off how unaware Obama and Alexrod were about the growing 501(c) organizations backed by Koch and other oligarchs that were arrayed against them.
Biden's coalition building approach to politics is good in that he has gone left to bring progressives with his policies since securing the nomination. But I hope to god, he was just saying that shit about how "Once Trump is gone, the fever of the Republican party will break," to appeal to moderates who aren't paying attention.
Otherwise, Biden will find himself in an economic meltdown, and waste time building consensus, when he needs to hammer through shit. Same as Obama.
So they need to net 4 and Jones is fucked. There's definitely room for a Biden presidency with mitch pretending that the election won't really happen until 2024
I think you’re too young to remember anything like that too friendo
I choose to live in optimism, because reality is shitty enough.
Once Trump is gone, they move even farther right. It’s their DNA to out-right each other in a purity test to the death of the GOP.
Even if Reagan wanted to walk through that door, he’s no longer wanted in. RINO.
Adam McKay had a good metaphor on the GOP in that they’re similar to ants. Ants wander aimlessly in search of food leaving scent trails, once one finds food they all kinda blindly follow that scent trail. GOP operates in a similar fashion on cultural issues.
At the very least you've conceded the point that Dems are capable of Big Things
God dammit my midwestern education didn’t prepare me for this kind of rhetorical trap.
The core GOP keeps trending whiter and more rural. 2024 platform will oppose sex with demons.
When have they ever showed enough spine to do that?
I agree with you but the nightmare scenario exists where a president never has a single cabinet official confirmed by the senate
Marianne Williamson might be a good pick while we're at it. She's a WOC (woman of crystals).
You hate to see it
That’s so incompetent it’s amazing.
Not just incompetent; it’s lazy. It’s exactly why Collins and a lot of other decades-serving congresspeople should be kicked out (and why they lose to people like AOC, Jamal Bowman, et al). Just completely lazy and complacent.
Trump gaining roughly 4-5 points across the board
I hope it's not real either. But, according to RCP, he's definitely climbing:
Making zero sense whatsoever.
My only guess is undecideds showing their true form.
We’re so close to 1920s Germany.
It was inevitable.
You’d just presume that an economic rebound or not being the worst country in the world re covid would’ve preceded favorable polling for trump.
Instead we got the worst gdp report ever, still have the most covid cases and deaths, and Trump recently said shit that made some conservatives use the word “impeachment.”
There’s something weird afoot in America. Stupidity and racism can only explain so much. Whatever social media war the admin is probably allowing is having more of an outsized influence than we already think.
Likely this. All the caveats about undecided voters being shy Republican voters are probably answering now.
More people get their “news” from the alt-right conspiracy theories posted on Facebook than any actual, real news source. People having more free time hasn’t led them to cable tv. It’s led them deeper into Facebook.
The idea that trump can’t use alt-right Facebook to steal the election is flawed. One poll doesn’t mean that this is happening but I bet you a lot more people than you realize have heard about trumps “incredible” initiative to lower drug prices than have heard of anything that we’ve talked about over the past 2 months.
they’ve also somehow gotten people to just accept 1500 deaths a day. In order to make sure they win, democrats have to take back Facebook.
my mom is voting for Biden. She HATES trump. She’s also sent me 3-4 stories or videos in the last week that confused her. They were all fake news conspiracy theories that came up in her Facebook feed. She belongs to no political groups. If she was unsure who to vote for, those posts could easily have turned her toward trump. Trump won in 2016 on Facebook disinformation. It’s only gotten worse and the democrats are doing nothing to combat it/spread their own lies to combat it.
So you’re saying all that zinc on zucks face will not protect him from angry mobs in the next few years?
It feels like the closest thing Dems have to combat it is the fucking Lincoln project.
There's always a regression to the mean.
I’ve seen plenty on here come out against the Lincoln project and I don’t want to re-debate that but I agree with you. What do the democrats have to combat bad actors? I think it’s been shown that a dynamic candidate can win over enough people to shelve bad actors. Bill Clinton and Obama proved that. Biden is a hell of a lot closer to a John Kerry/Hillary than he is either of those 2. He’s definitely not as unlikable as Hillary but he’s not dynamic. The hope is people vote against trump. That should still happen but democrats are doing very little in the dark arts to help that happen. It’s basically the entire Republican Party against the 5% of the never trump republicans with the democrats on the sidelines refusing to get their hands dirty.
Dems are the "I've done nothing and I'm all out of ideas" meme in political party form
Lol, I get that this is a negotiation so people can get their benefits again quickly but this shit sucks.
Democrats have so much of a problem that even people prone to voting for them spew negative propaganda attached to the party.
I’m pretty sure hardly any republicans, even those who may not vote trump, are saying, “we’re pretty fucking racist!”
it’s going to end up at that the UI is lessened a little bit, everyone gets a stimulus check singed by Donald trump right before the election and McConnell gets his early 1900s work conditions that his donors want with full liability protection for 5 years.
What’s the main issue with this proposal?
e: actually I can think of a couple now. Initially my thought was making it automatic and non renewable based on Congress is ideal. The economy will take god knows how long to normalize. This plan depends on how abruptly the phase down occurs.
Your UI is tied to the economy even if you're still unemployed? Seems shittier than if everyone who is unemployed is still getting $600, especially since it's been seen that it's not really causing people to not look for work.
it incentivizes the government to rush people back to work whether it’s safe or not. Basically to make the same mistake that was made when we opened the economy too early the first time. Unemployment rate got better but it fucked the country to do it.
Exact same feeling
I think I only applied for one job when on unemployment but that's because everything that was available that I wasn't 100% unqualified for (like engineering and medical jobs) didn't pay shit compared to what I had been making at the job I was furloughed from. I was basically committed to taking that $600 in unemployment money as long as I could if I didn't get anything that paid well. I sure as fuck wasn't willingly going to go back to working in the restaurant or retail industry unless I had no other choice.
Near what turned out to be the end of my furlough I had started applying for basically anything with a pulse though because my former employer was trying to fuck me over and cost me my unemployment by essentially saying I was fired or quit without reason, both of which make one ineligible for unemplyoment.
A lack of complacency among Democratic voters is a good thing. As polls narrow, hopefully it shakes any complacency.
Every day I am somehow amazed at the mental gymnastics needed to think four more years of Trump is what we need. I simply don't have the brain power to get it but that may be the point.
