I might settle for 4 more years of Trump if it means Democrats will stop talking about hardworking midwest people
Warren needs to stop being so radical about helping people
New account today, eh?
not until much later
Well what thread will you be directing us to?
Mark Kelly in AZ is a huge deal. He could turn AZ blue if he runs a juggernaut campaign down there.
not til later part? just too early for those races or knowing who is running. save the scratch to make it most useful
should have said swing left, actblue is a platform
both, like you said with Hickenlooper CO probably is a likely dem so no need to put money there, the other ones you mentioned are good to keep an eye on or funnel money to ME/AZ especially.
the real difference maker will be competitive house races, which shit like swingleft helps get money to people who you may not hear about. all senate camps going to be drowning in cash.
We’re still more of an individualistic-minded society than a collective one. The ppl who are gonna decide the ‘20 election are mostly uniformed about policy. They are susceptible to misleading attack ads. The battle of narratives...
Wait who is Oh fuck off
I'd assume Evil Homer aka oops
Please stop playing the John Delaney role. I'm so sick and tired of hearing crap like this when the other side passes terrible shit with no fucks given. It doesn't inspire people in the least.
Getting rid of the fillibuster is stupid and any Democrat that wants to do it is a fucking idiot. The Senate is and always will be skewed conservative, because it's 2 senators from each state and there are more rural and conservative states then liberal states and it will be that way for a very very long time. If you get rid of the fillibuster keep in mind the Republicans will control the Senate 80 out of the next 100 years.
The ability to qualify for the third debate ends on August 28. All candidates must poll at least 2% in at least 4 qualifying national or early state polls that were conducted 6/28-8/28.
They also must have 1300 individual donors or 400 donors in 20 states.
9 have qualified—Biden, Buttigieg, Harris, Sanders, Warren, Booker, ORourke, Klobuchar, and Yang.
Castro and Gabbard have met donor thresholds, but Castro only has 3 qualifying polls and Gabbard has 1 (which she hit yesterday).
Steyer has 3 polls but not the donor threshold.
Gillibrand and Hickenlooper have 1 poll.
All others are zero in both.
I'm paying as many illegals as I can to donate $1 to Tom Steyer
Where is your God now
So yeah, Castro needs to get in then we can split to 2 nights using polling.
I have no idea how many more qualifying polls are slated for the next two weeks, but both Castro and Gabbard are barraging their e-mail lists asking everyone to vote in every poll.
The filibuster is overtly obstructionist and anti-democratic and should not be a tool of governance.
Anyone who expects any type of truly progressive legislation to get passed in the Senate as long as a Republican minority can filibuster is a fucking idiot.
The threat of fillibuster saved our ass a lot in the last couple years too, but of course keep the wool over your eyes and somehow think that we would get more done in the short periods Democrats control the Senate versus what the fucking Republicans would do without a fillibuster. Even when the Democrats take control they won't have enough progressives to actually push anything real through, but you know the Republicans will just immediately roll back any bit of legislation a Democrat passed the previous session. I know we are all frustrated at snail's pace progress in this country, but our system is pretty good at keeping the country from rolling backwards like it's on a hill.
If Democrats actually had a spine and cared about the country they could eliminate the filibuster and then enact a bunch of pro-democracy legislation that would fix or at least improve things for the long haul.
But they won't do any of that. Maybe if they have Warren in the White House spearheading it but that's probably it.
We've seen the Republicans almost universally fall in line behind Trump so maybe Dems would fall in line if Warren or Bernie became head of the party.
not likely. you'd have centrist turds like indeed whining about socialism and sliding to the right
You're right, it does a good job of propping up the status quo. "We're not going forward but at least it's not backward" benefits the oppressors not the oppressed.
Mississippi Goddam by Nina Simone is one of my favorite political songs:
"i have voted democrat all my life but i can't support socialism and progressive measures like free college and medicare for all. guess i will have to side with the fascists until the dems stop such childish behavior"
-indeed and his boomer trash friends
the filibuster was created by accident and literally only a tool for conservatives
the reason being progressive legislation is wildly popular, you saw with even something as half baked as the ACA that getting rid of a program that is genuinely helpful to people is about as hard a position you can be in
pass more big policies, make the Republicans be the bad guy, or the more likely scenario where they can't get it repealed. if you don't understand why Mitch hasn't torpedo'd it you're blind.
I definitely disagree but your arguments do have merit. I hope it works out like this, because I'm not entirely sure it would. Either way, I'm sure we will know soon enough because the fillibuster won't survive the roaring 20s.
This is a Pete plank.
If the filibuster protected progressive policies McConnell would have gotten rid of it
The top half of me doesn't want to vote for this version of Marianne Williamson. The bottom half of me, though...
I love her and she needs to be in someones cabinet if not VP
Stacey seems like she'll be a big name in the party for a long time
This needs to be the big tent gay space communism party where all gay society communism is welcome.
iTs a RePuBlIc NoT a DeMocRaCy
Pete is irrelevant...sorry to break it to you
Yeah he is 5th, but that is a plank of his. Sorry the truth triggered you.
Ok...that doesn’t really have anything to do with his point that Warren would be the only person to pull it off hypothetically
I'm not refuting that and I may be behind but I have not heard her go after reforming democracy like Pete has. that was my point.
I love Pete we all know this, but Warren is number 1 for me.
Get your shit together, Carolina.
But it's important that he's in the conversation and talking about it. He's been talking about it since January, longer than she has
Do you plan on voting for Warren in the primary?
The left has to be careful about what are perceived as “extreme measures” and their consequences though. Right now abolishing the filibuster seems like a great idea. But in 5-10 years it could backfire like Harry Reid using the nuclear option.
Like I said I could have missed it, but it was his first shot when he got rolling, and I certainly follow him more than her, but I also know where his journey ends.
Are we in a fantasyland where the GOP wouldnt have done it anyway?
I am a big fan of Pete, but it’s like shut the fuck up already especially when you don’t know that Warren has made impassioned cases for doing away with the filibuster
I'm giving myself time to decide between the two. as of today, yes. If Pete surges and looks like he can get through, I'd go Pete. It's a gameday decision for me.
