Yang isn't my guy but his push for basic income is a policy that I hope we start socializing now and gets passed by a dem house and senate that President Bae Warren signs into law in 2021.

I'll add to the basic income plan that it will be necessary to have something in place if we are going to advance in autonomous vehicles and other AI tech that will replace workers. I know a company that recently automated several hundred union jobs with AI and the way they got it approved is by paying union dues for every license they sold. Shady.

I want UBI. And reparations. And public service student loan forgiveness to work like it's supposed to. And Warren's student loan forgiveness up to 50k for those with household incomes under 100k.

Basically, focus "cuts" and resources on the bottom and let that trickle up.

If you go back several of us have had the conversation multiples times about UBI and there are some people open to it but quite a few loud opponents for reasons that I've never really thought were particularly compelling.

This argument always comes off like those people who don't think we should do anything about climate change because we won't have enough of a global impact because of the Chinese.

elizabae isn't big on UBI iirc. doesn't think its time for it and has other big ticket proposals she'd rather start on. I think some form of UBI is inevitable (and am pretty fascinated by the concept) but probably agree we're not there yet.

    UBI is fine

but not at the expense of the current welfare state altogether, it should just be included in the income calculation so yes you will move many people off those programs but $1k/month ain't replacing all of it for everyone

I think both arguments are valid. UBI is good for immediate relief to a lot of people but it's not a long term solution

Right but it's something and much better than the status quo.
No it's stupid and not enough. And we can't get UBI passed anyway. It's a pipe dream.
Do you think we can do anything that is enough? Aren't more radical changes even less pragmatic?

i kind of look at it completely the opposite. its a solution for the long term effects of automation on our society but in the short term we'll lack the political will to justify the investment it would take.

I meant more like UBI is a bandaid and by the nature of capitalism the benefits will be quickly diminished returning us to a crisis point just a decade later when we should have spent our resources ending capitalism.

And I think the argument against that line of thinking is that you're hoping to implement some half measure down the road. Down the road you should have grander expectations.

The argument is about the timeline and the ultimate goal. I don’t think anyone really disagrees with giving poor people money. I think some people wonder that if we’ve moved to the point of saying rich people and companies should be cutting checks to poor people because the system is broken, should we be looking at changing the system or continue to patch it up?

I’m team evolution > revolution but I think this does a disservice to the logic of the revolutionary’s argument about UBI specifically - which is that if we’re having the discussion we should have all of it.

Probably not that many but probably a lot more than whatever else is in the ether when people refer to some ambiguous alternative that goes further than UBI to address income inequality. Which is ending capitalism? Or something?

I like the idea of UBI but Yang is not the guy to sell it. He's fine, and I would vote for him in a heartbeat, but, someone else would be better suited to run with it. That to me is something you roll out year 2 not as a platform piece to get in office.

A pretty consistent 42%... except vs Joseph. Aka Biden is liked by 2% of R's even with being a DemonKKKrat. If he could become a Godly, Righteous (R), I am sure he could beat Trump in a primary.

He’s wrong about the Republican Party being victimized by Trump, but he’s not going after the MAGA vote. There’s still a slice of suburban Republicans and GOP leaning independents that are swingy and open to Biden as an alternative to Trump.

I’m pretty confident that Biden won’t be the nominee, but he’s not a Republican.
