Max is going to either stay at RedBull (and why not is seems to be the 2nd best car now) or move to Ferrari to take Sebs seat. I don’t think he’s going to take the #2 role at Mercedes. That seems lined up for Ocon. I think the biggest question would be is what does Seb do if Max takes his seat. Does RB toss out a ton of money to bring him back home or does he legit retire. I honestly don’t see Max or Seb moving but it’s early in silly season
Hamilton is more well liked around the paddock than most of his rivals and certainly Nico. Ricciardo is the guy that needs to be in a better car.
But where? He’s not good enough to be a #1 at Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull. He took a gamble that Renault may be on the uptick like Mercedes was when Hamilton made his move. Obviously that isn’t happening and that team is worse this season. Daniel doesn’t seem like he wants to be a #2 at those big teams. Just got to hope Renault figures it out soon
I don't disagree with anything you are saying. It would take a team to genuinely give equal treatment to both drivers. He has the talent to hang with any of them.
On a conference call recently it was discussed the possibility of Las Vegas or Miami to host a race in the US. Apparently talks will be happening shortly with both cities. They also mentioned more teams joining the F1 grid including another American Team and hopefully eventually having an American driver in a car.
And to finish my combo of post... Silly season seems to be in full swing. I guess Ocon could end up at Haas along Hulkenburg. Now that’s a shakeup.
Vegas would be very interesting. British and German GPs both had over 300K+ in onsite and outside the gates attendance. Miami can handle that influx. Vegas can probably handle better than Miami can. Vegas would have to be very early or late on the calendar to avoid a mass of over-heating cars. Miami would have similar challenges regardless of time of year. I doubt they would do both though. If they did, it would likely eliminate Austin.
Yep. He's just been so bad in race. Can qualify well, but falls behind so quickly. The German GP was just plain awful on his part. Qualified 4th and finished 14th. That was after key DNFs by Bottas, LeClerc and others. Was just so bad. I can't find the article, but it was strong foreshadowing on this happen. Basically talked about the delta in performance from Max to Gasly and how bad it looked.
Please let Ford Racing decide to make a big financial move and take some of the people that has helped them kill it at Le Mans whenever they have felt like it. I think F1 needs another team that can actually produce their own engines/car from top to bottom.
You may get part of your wish, but not sure Ford will be a part of it. Would be cool if they did again. https://us.motorsport.com/f1/news/cosworth-lining-up-for-f1-return-in-2021-932464/3037026/
How many teams do there have to be where qualifying could actually knock you out of a race if you don’t finish high enough That would be compelling
i think that would turn F1 into a two day tv event. right now for most people it's probably just two hours on Sunday.
I personally find the qualifying almost as entertaining as the race. Currently, there's (usually) more unknown going into qualifying compared to the race. I know F1 realizes this and is working on it with their new cars for next year.
How many new cars and which teams are we expecting? Largest grid ever was 34 cars 6 decades ago. I think an expansion to 24 to 26 total cars would be doable. Still, a track like Monaco would struggle with 24 to 26.
Supposedly no current targets for 2020, but this article brings up Audi, SMP, Aston Martin and Andretti for 2021. Andretti would be interesting. https://us.motorsport.com/f1/news/five-teams-f1-should-target-for-2021/4358661/
I'm not sure what the ROI is for just F1 alone but if Mercedes-Benz doesn't this year then I wouldn't think anyone would. Of course in the general scheme of things, the actual manufacturers like M-B, Renault, McLaren, Ferrari obviously think the boost in brand recognition and prestige is worth it to them on the whole otherwise they wouldn't bother.
probably also a good way for execs to boondoggle all over the globe oh shit yeah we have this event in australia i guess we need to go down there for a week on the company dime
If I was an exec at Mercedes and had any tie to the F1 program, I'd try to do that for nearly every single race.
He didn’t get into specifics. Just indicated the goal is to increase the amount of teams on grid. I would imagine F1 would love another engine manufacture in the sport. They naturally would have a B team.
So the F1 Twitter account tweeted this out: And the first reply is Mercedes tweeting back the gif of Rosberg pouting and throwing the hat back
I'm no aero-dynamics expert, but wouldn't reducing downforce from 50% to 10% make over-taking even more difficult? I'd think F1 wants to see more over-taking.
I think the current car takes away 50% of the downforce of the car following closely resulting in the 2 second gap we see between cars. I think the new car will take the 50% loss of downforce to 10% making it much easier to stick on the backend of the car in front without tearing up the tires.
Yeah that's right. I watched the video below a month or so ago. It discusses that among other changes.
Ocon taking Hulkenberg's seat and Bottas gets another year at merc? Too busy at work to look any further than headlines.
I think they should allow 3-car teams, with maybe the points of the top two cars counting towards the constructors. Have to think the incremental cost of running three cars as opposed to two would be relatively minimal.
Next years silly season will be crazy. I think Vettals, Hamilton’s, Max, Ricciardo, and Bottas contracts all expire.
Just watched the Netflix series and I’m captivated. I would definitely go to a race here in the states if they have one
Checo extends his contract for 3 years. No surprise he brings that Mexican cartel money to a poor team.
Ferrari looked head and shoulders better than the field. Can't wait for them to step on their dicks tomorrow morning
Spa tomorrow, best race of the season IMO. Unfortunately, tomorrow will have a black cloud over it with the fatal accident of F2 driver Anthoine Hubert. Crash Analysis here (NSFW):
Albon in 10th 3/4 through this race Is there a chance that Red Bull’s second car just isn’t that good?
Good for Charles. Also good on Seb for being a teammate and helping Charles get the win. Monza next week should be amazing. Don't fuck it up Ferrari. Don't fuck it up
