I think it's 2029. So I wouldn't expect F1 to go that route till then. I do believe a lot of people around F1 believe this is future of the sport.
I don't see it but that's a long way off. I think the internal combustion will always (at least in our lifetimes) be the most popular hobby. I do think EVs are for sure the future and we'll all be driving them in 10 yrs but I think internal combustion cars will be the "toys" for adults.
Haas has to be hoping like hell Hulkenburg goes to Red Bull and not Perez. Hulk appears to not be interested in driving for them.
It seems like there’s real traction behind Hulk to Red Bull. Perez and Iilot at Haas would be a dream come true for Haas, especially if Ferrari pays to have him in the second seat. Get an infusion of much needed cash from both drivers
Not sure if it’s been discussed or not: The beyond the grid podcast is really good. I listened to Zac Brown and Seb ones today. Both very cool. Liberty’s embracing of new forms of dtc content has been really smart. They’re putting on a class of how to capture fans (Netflix) and keep them engaged via social media and podcast.
Not surprising, but there it is. Would love to see them in LM24, WEC, IMSA. I think they would have great success in any of those.
Mazepin definitely doesn't have the talent as the two other Ferrari drivers but he sure as fuck has the money.
So is this weekends track predicted to be a procession race or does it give opportunities for passing?
Only one DRS zone but It’s a very wide track, with the lack of F1 racing on the track not sure if we know what will happen on Sunday. It’s a sexy track
The first half of FP2 was a shit show testing the new tires. Can’t wait for the drivers to cry about the tires not being good and once again rejecting the new compounds for a second year running.
I think it depends on the tire graining. They thought with re surfacing the track a few weeks ago it would have a ton of grip. But it seems like the opposite is happening. I’m thinking it’s gonna end up being two.
Agreed. Either complete the pass or back off, it's just practice. Is Lewis sandbagging or struggling? 8th on the chart.
Sandbagging... he was bitching non stop about having to be out testing the new prototype tires. Showed his true speed today.
Speaking of true speed I know everyone is in love with Max as the next mega stud of F1 but Charles isn’t far off. What he’s able to do with the worst engine on the grid. R2 for a second straight week. This kid is so fast. Max and Charles are going to be battling for world titles for years to come. And I’m all in for it.
Maybe the worst engine but as far as overall car, Williams, Alfa, and Haas drivers definitely have it worse than Charles. I do think Charles is one of the top 5 most talented drivers out there but he hasn't earned the right to be in Max's tier yet. Imo... 1. Lewis 2. Bottas (mostly the car but results are results) 2a. Max 3. Charles Also, I'm admittedly a biased fan of his but I think if you were to put George in any car that was competitive, he'd do similarly impressive things on Sunday's.
I don’t disagree with the points on Haas, Williams and Alfa. Two cars with Ferrari power. But he’s out pacing guys he has no business doing like Racing Point, Renault and McLaren
Well I guess at this point it's obvious this is one of the races where RB is just conceding to Merc. Ughh...I hate that and I'm sure Max does too but hard to blame them I guess.
They decided to save 3rd place and defend against the Ferrari. Ferrari bailed them out ultimately because they went to the hard tire and it couldn’t warm up even 15 laps in.
I was a big fan of this race track. I really hope F1 either expands the schedule or rotates in some of these tracks including the one in Italy because they are great.
100% agreed. There’s a lot of great tracks that F1 needs to get my on the schedule full time. I know they’re a worldwide sport, and wants to hit all the corners of the earth, but I have loved the European triple headers especially since they’ve mixed some old school tracks. I know with covid it’s messed everything up, but you can frame the schedule to more efficiently get around Europe too. Do Portugal, Spain, Paul Richard in a group. Holland, spa, silverstone in another. Germany, Hungary, Austria in a third, and then Monaco, Monza, Imola or mugello. That would help make logistics easy, and between those groups you can fit in fly aways in groups as well. Like a singular Asian swing, North America/Brazil swing, Central Asia/ME etc.
Every other driver who lost positions did so because they were involved in a accident. Don’t think he’s in F1 next year. Gasly looked great today
On the weekend warmup YouTube they kinda touched on why they think no one can succeed in that seat. They hinted that maybe the car is so tailored to Max’s desires and style that driver #2 just has no say in the set up at all. For that reason I think they need to really look in the mirror as to who they put in that seat. Alex and Max seem to really get along. Alex seems okay being #2, and fairly or unfairly probably is okay with not having much of a say. Hulk or Checo probably would not go to a situation like that, and if I’m Pierre I dunno if I’d rush to go back to that situation.
For real. It seems like RBR really strive to set that car up for Max and thats not an ideal setup for most other guys they get in that seat. If/when they DO pull the ripcord on Albon, I almost don't want to see Pierre to go back to that spot. He's shown he can be competitive in the AT and another disastrous stint in the RB2 could really derail him.
Agreed, especially when you add in losing Anthoine Hubert who he was so close to. To handle all the RB shit AND that kind of personal loss so close together and still climb back up to where he is now is so impressive, especially for such a young guy. He's awesome.
I could be wrong, but I think Newey talks about this (not with Max, but other drivers) in his book. Ironically, Seb seems to be one of the worst drivers at adapting driving style to car. He struggled at the beginning of his Ferrari time with this very issue.
