That's great that there are now metrics for umpires that are becoming more well known Hope this holds them accountable, because it sure seems like a buddy system
wow, seems like they should only pick from like the top 20. But at least there’s no Angel, Cowboy Joe, or Ron Kulpa
Diaz is pretty bad from a personality perspective, although apparently just average from an accuracy one
It's kind of weird they're doing the traditional travel off days for the WS after not doing that to this point, but I'm assuming both teams are pretty happy about it.
just read the Rays’ prorated payroll (28mm) is roughly equivalent to betts’ and kershaw’s prorated salaries there’s definitely a wrong team to pull for this series (unless you’re dodgers fan or the rays sent your team home this postseason)
The Rays could spend more if they wanted. Not to the level (or anywhere close) of the Dodgers, but they could spend more and don't. And, on a lot of levels, it allows them to do the things they like to do. Not saying people shouldn't root for the Rays. I'm just not into the payroll thing.
Dodgers have also pulled about a half-dozen guys out of the trash bin (Turner, Muncy, Hernandez, Taylor) and their entire starting rotation is homegrown (Kersh, Buehler, Urias, Gonsolin, May). More homegrown guys: Seager, Bellinger, Will Smith, etc
On one hand, the Rays should be commended for their roster construction; on the other hand, I think it’s reasonable to back teams that don’t build their rosters around minimizing the slice of the revenue pie that players take home
No clue how realistic Forbes valuation are, but they have the Rays as one of the least profitable teams...with only $68 million in operating income last year (although that’s been as low as $8 million as of a few years ago, and I can’t imagine it looks good this year, although they’ll be one of the least affected teams).
That's surprisingly low, then. Especially with the national media and tech deals they've done in recent years that were reportedly worth a ton for each team of late.
I mean, the Rays actively try to undermine player salary so it's incredibly rational to root for the team that pays players. I'm not saying who anybody should root for but I think it takes more salary rationalization to root for the Rays.
they just bought out what was going to be incredibly high arbitration salaries and spread it out over multiple years. they've done that to a bunch of guys throughout the years.
fuck the owners across the board. i’m not really rooting for the front offices tho. i’m rooting for the 25 guys that collectively make what kershaw/betts make. it’s your classic david vs Goliath setup also- the dodgers have quite a bit more cheddar to throw around anyways
Hard to say the Rays are David when they had the 2nd best record in baseball. Sure, they go about it another way, but it's not like they are some Cinderella team making a crazy run. Just be honest, you're rooting for the Rays bc they didn't beat your team. I readily admit that's why I'm rooting for the Dodgers. Fuck the Rays imo.
yea obv our series is the main reason I’m not pulling for the dodgers. im a very serious fandom cop and there’s a right team to pull for if your team didn’t get sent home by either is all I’m sayin. no further questions.
first and foremost i’m team #National League so it’s a bit complicated. means discrepancies ultimately tipped the scales in the Rays’ favor
Yeah the Rays aren't some Cinderella story that has snuck up on everyone. They are pretty much Gonzaga at this point. Might be working with less resources, but they've been good for a long time.
I don't really have a problem with the Rays and rooted for them against the Astros like any reasonable person. But I desperately want to see Kershaw have a few great starts this WS and shake that monkey and win the WS. I don't really care about the payrolls TBH.
you can be the best team in your league and still be an underdog in the World Series. this dodgers team is historically good. that’s a weird take. the david v goliath point was in reference to their resources
For Luhnow's sake, I'm hoping he's doing this because he realizes he'll never work in baseball again and is just trying to turn some PR in his favor. If he thinks this will help him get a leadership role in the sport again he's a moron. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...ies-role-houston-astros-sign-stealing-scandal
