What's driving this trend? Don't follow it as closely as many of you do.
basically look at where non college educated whites live in large numbers. also look at states that are losing their college graduates. low immigration rates. etc.
Minnesota has stayed a couple points bluer than Wisconsin because it's very well educated. Michigan iirc is a bit more educated and diverse than Ohio.
Ohio just has looooaaaddddsssss of idiot whites.
This checks out when you consider the urban sprawl over the last two decades in places like Atlanta, DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Charlotte and even Phoenix (though I’m not as hip to the demographics of Arizona).
Those cities are full of transplants.
Michigan Man is the only thing stopping Armageddon
You need me on that wall
Lindsay’s going to have to do much better than this lol. Easy to tell Jaime has him concerned.
Lol at a Republican "getting things done"
Is a "Nancy Pelsoi liberal" supposed to be a zinger? Those people enable the GOP.
It is if you think a woman's place is in the home

Who could possibly be swayed by a tv ad at this point? Trump is the tv doing something shitty 100% of the time.
Is it 2028 yet?
Putting "Nancy Pelosi liberal" and "Far-left agenda" in the same breath lol
it’s like them calling biden a socialist
complete brain rot
i'm sure there is some clever literary reference that explains the comedy of the people who are voting for biden also being the ones who know the most about his problems
like when he bragged about putting programs like social security on the table for cuts to appease his republican colleagues in the senate
if biden was even a tenth of the person the right accuses him of being, i would be thrilled
Diamond Joe is going to install a Ben and Jerry’s in the Oval Office while Queen Liz runs the country. #CantWait

My money is on Duckworth. Asian-American female disabled veteran checks a lot of boxes.

Shes an IL Senator
I'm still hoping for Warren but maybe it's because Mehdi Hasan almost daily tweets out info/articles saying she'd be the most popular pick.
oops i was thinking baldwin for some reason
Gay, Asian, who's counting?
I enjoyed this anecdote:
Duckworth participated in the 2016 Chris Murphy gun control filibuster. During the sit-in, Duckworth hid her mobile phone in her prosthetic leg to avoid it being taken away from her since taking pictures and recording on the House floor is against policy.
According to CNN, Biden's VP list is down to Warren, Harris, Demings, and Lance Bottoms.
i like yglesias' london breed darkhorse pick
I think Demings is the pick if I had to put money on it today.
Tobiaz is technically correct that replacing her in WI is tricky then.
I've heard this shit before.... Then suddenly the reanimated corpse of Hitler is doing a victory speech in 2024 and liberals and their new found conservative friends are saying "O, he won't do anything bad nothing will change".
Haha whoops, looks like Comrade Ron Johnson will forge ahead despite being warned he is aiding Russia.
In a Dec. 5 meeting, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) told the leaders of the Senate Homeland Security and Finance committees — Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Chuck Grassley of Iowa, respectively — that their probe targeting Biden could aid Russian efforts to sow chaos and distrust in the U.S. political system, according to two congressional sources familiar with the meeting.

There was a fundamental realignment in the 90’s. The West Coast used to have a very competitive Republican Party.
Bob Packwood (R OR) led the opposition to Clinton’s health care in 93. Oregon had two R senators, Hatfield was the other. California’s Pete Wilson led the charge on the anti-immigrant Prop 187 in 1994 and won. Washington had Slade Gordon (R) in the 90’s.
Since Prop 187, I think Schwartzenneger is the only R to win a statewide race in California. Oregon and Washington are firmly blue.
Oregon had a Republican senator up until 2008, which seems bizarre in hindsight
Then we elected Jeff The Gawd Merkley
Merkley apparently still lives in a part of Portland that the type of person who goes to Harvard and ends up as a U.S Senator typically cant wait to leave (David Douglas school district). I knocked on doors for him in 2008. Good guy.
Ohio has trended red because SE Ohio has mirrored the same trends as the rest of Appalachian SW PA, WV, and eastern KY. It used to be very blue, but now is very red.
Ohio also has very uneven population trends. The anchor of that red flip in SE Ohio is the Steubenville-Wheeling Metro. From 1980-2000, it was dead last among all US statistical metro areas in population loss. Its literally dying. Some of those counties have the oldest average populace in the country.
It’s only a 5 point swing, but flipping those blue votes to red has mattered.
In contrast, Columbus experienced sunbelt-type growth from 1980-2000. SW Ohio/Cincinnati also grew more modestly.
Columbus and Cincinnati historically were very red. In the last three cycles, they are trending very blue.
Watch what happens in Franklin and Hamilton counties in 2020.
I saw Packwood speak back in the 1990’s. He had a top-5, I’m a creep vibe, of anyone I’ve seen.
