Since Georgia didn't play football in the 2019 season, I was ready for the 2020 season... Then yesterday happened and I almost went ahead and made this the 2021 SEC Football Discussion Thread...
I look forward to shitposting my way through this thread. What does everybody have returning/what are your team's expectations. Spoiler QB- Mac/BY, Lia, Tyson RB- Sanders, Brob, Kelian, Mcclellan TE- Billingsley/Forristall, Tennison WR- Waddle, Bolden, TJB WR- Smith, Shavers, Bolden WR- Metchie, X Williams LT- Leatherwood, Brown LG- Dickerson, Owens C- Dalcourt, Ekiyor RG- Brown, Quick RT- Neal, Lashley DE- Ray, Eboigbe, Wynn NG- Dale, Mathis, T Smith DE- Barmore, Young, Sopsher Jack- Allen, Anderson/Harris, Braswell SLB- Mwikuta, Davis, Sanders WLB- Harris, McMillon, Benton MLB- Moses, Lee, Kaho, Kennedy CB- Jobe, R Williams, Carter Star- JAD, Carter FS- Hellams/Wright, Branch SS- Battle, Turnage CB- Surtain, Banks Offense is going to be really good yet again. How good they are depends on QB play. RB and WR are stout. TE above average. OL elite. Fanbase is split on Mac vs Bryce Young. We should have enough offense to score with anybody. Defense is going to be improved with experience at MLB getting Moses back. DL hasn't really had any game changers this year. Maybe Barmore will turn into one. They were super young this year but I think there's a good chance we have a few guys take a big step forward. Secondary won't have a ton of experience but I'm encouraged by the talent we have coming in/returning. Schedule USC (jerry world) Georgia State UGA Kent State @Ole Miss @Arkansas Miss State @UT @LSU UT-Martin A&M Auburn Expectations are somewhere between 12-0 and 10-2, mostly depending on how the D improves and how good the new starting QB is.
Our D will be outrageously good. A decent step up from this year's D which was excellent. O will be completely revamped, both with who our QB is (expecting a transfer all Newman) and schematically it will adjust to that, which I think is a good thing. I expect 11-1 and playing Bama for the SECCG.
I said we would lose 1 game. It won't be to y'all. We have gone 11-1 the last 3 years...it is pretty much par at this point. Not sure what I said that you disagree with but would love to hear it.
I admittedly don’t know much of Newman other than what I’ve read in recent days, but what makes you think Kirby is going to completely revamp the offense for him if he wouldn’t do it for Fields?
He will revamp it to take advantage of a dual threat guy. Sadly enough, that is what a lot of our offense was predicted off of this year was calling plays for a guy that could make things happen at QB with his legs, but we just didn't have the guy. Newman is legit. No, we aren't all of a sudden going to a spread, but it will not be the same O you have seen under Fromm.
Different OCs for one, but the rest is just hope that Kirby doesn’t stick his head in the sand after watching the complete and total shitshow and resulting mass exodus on offense.
I personally love the optimism from Tennessee and Florida as it will make it all the better when we beat them both and win the East AGAIN.
It’s still hard to pick either UF or UT over y’all, but if either team is ever going to make that move, this is the year.
Neither fanbase realizes the amount of time it takes to build truly elite depth. We finally have that. It took 4 years of elite recruiting to establish that. We have waves of guys and are not just going to go away. They are both improving their rosters, but they are both ell behind us still. We will see.
The most important thing to have in college football is a great QB. Without one, a team can still possibly make the playoffs but I don't think they can't win a championship.
Coley is almost certainly still the guy, though we’re hoping we hire some sort of Co-OC or passing game coordinator to help out. I was just pointing out that the offense we had while Fields was here was Chaney’s.
A lot of our runs this year were reads. Fromm just never kept it. It's a fair question to ask why we kept running them when he never kept it but the offense won't have to change that much.
Pretty much anyone's guess right now. 6 QBs in the spring rotation right now but I think one or two of Guarantano, Shrout and Mauer transfers out. I think its going to be either Guarantano or Bailey that starts the season, but nothing would really surprise me.
5th year senior over a true freshman isn't that big of a stretch, especially if we are in a position to make a big jump next season. For all of JG's bullshit, he has shown flashes of brilliance at times. Maybe having the same OC for two seasons in a row for the first time would be beneficial to him. Also, starting JG would limit QB room attrition. Only one of Shrout or Mauer would transfer and we would have a more "normal" QB depth chart.
Kirby is totally going to change his offense for a random dual threat transfer thst he wouldn't do for a 5* QB who looks like he'll finish 1 or 2 in the Heisman next year lololololololololololol
I will hot take this to my grave, but Ed Orgeron is not now nor will he ever be the second best coach in the SECw. Probably going to win a title anyway, but it doesn’t change my opinion.
Losing Fromm and getting Newman would be quite the blow to your wheels falling off narrative. Best qb in SEC per pff.
When you recognize you're not the smartest person in the room the go on to make the best possible hires, you get the nod. Gus could learn a lot from him
