This thread does a much better job than I ever could at breaking down the sketchiness of the Arthur/pjanic transfer.
sounds like it’s just a book balancing/ffp accounting trick that they have to do because coutinho is a bum that no one wants
yeah I think this may be just to break even. I can’t blame a team for pushing the chips all in when Messi is 32 but I have a feeling Barcelona are going to be in a big hole when Messi does eventually decline/retire. Messi has no transfer fee but massive wages and the transfer fee/wages for griezmann, coutinho and dembele are astronomical. With their transfer fees and wages I think you could argue that those are the 3 worst transfers of the last 5 years in the sport. There aren’t 10 squads in the world that cost more than those 3 and none is a guaranteed starter.
Injuries have certainly been a major issue, but I believe he’s also had issues relating to immaturity (late to/missing training, not rehabbing properly) as well.
I won’t pretend to be an expert on Barca but I’d have to imagine that Suarez starts if healthy. Messi obviously. So one of those 3 at LW? I know coutinho can play as a CM but didn’t he struggle there? So 1 of those 3 is probably going to start and they spent €370m on them?
In 17/18, Dembélé made 17 LaLiga appearances (12 starts) and 3 (2) UCL appearances. Transfermarkt puts him as missing 20 matches with injury. In 18/19, 29 (20) LaLiga and 8 (5) UCL. 13 missed with injuries. 19/20, 5 (3) LaLiga and 4 (2) UCL with 28 (and counting) due to injuries. That doesn’t change that it hasn’t worked out but just felt like that should be noted versus lumping in with Griezmann and Coutinho that just haven’t seemed to fit as well (and Griezmann has still been pretty good)
He could be so good under conte. Not sure if the money could work but I would love to see what conte could do with him.
Not a fan of this whatsoever but if he wants a guaranteed spot then via con dios. €40M is laughably low though. I’d start at the €85M Bayern paid for Hernandez and go from there. And, as always, fuck all Milan based clubs, their fans, all fans of Italian clubs and Italian Americans in general.
Can’t you just put a buyback clause on him and pick him up after the downhill slide of caravajal is enough?
1. Inter have to agree to that. 2. More importantly, the issue is that there's literally no cover for Carvajal at the moment. Odriozola was sent off to Germany after failing to impress and, unless something radically changes, doesn't have the confidence of Zidane or the club at the moment. If they don't bring Hakimi back they're stuck looking for yet another replacement or rolling the dice with a pair of CBs in Nacho & Militao as cover. 3. The club spent $30M+ on both Danilo and Odriozola in an effort to find Carva's backup. They now have AT LEAST that and quite probably a guy good enough to challenge to supplant him and they're going to sell him for just $40M?
Idk if you’re going to be getting 85 in this current market, but the kid is most certainly a stud How many years does Caravajal have on his contract? Why is it too early to make the switch and give Hakimi the job?
I doubt they'd get $85 either but $40 is a joke, especially for one of the best prospects in the game. Carvajal is under contract for 2 more years. The issue is that he's a top 3ish RB in the world when he's on his game and an academy product that Zidane trusts. You can't just relegate him to a reserve role.
I feel like this is a move by his agent to try and get united to make a big bid for him. I’d imagine city could do better when it comes to a winger and want foden to replace Silva.
Napoli definitely want him and Lille want to sell but I can’t imagine someone paying 70 million for him right now.
Would’ve rather let him walk for free next Summer but oh well. Put that money into the back line please
I guess I just assume with the current appeal that we’re not going to go spend whatever we want and really test them
Has there ever been a worse deal than the Mkhi/Alexis swap. We probably got it worse as City were gonna pay 70 mil for him in the summer but we pulled out Wenger lost his fucking mind after his youth project didn't work out.
Now we have plenty of money for Havertz. Dont care if we pay 50M or 100M. 0M is fine too but Id rather not wait.
