Derek Dooley is returning to his former mentor, Nick Saban. Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Dooley, the former University of Tennessee and Louisiana Tech head coach who early in his career worked for Saban at both LSU and the Miami Dolphins, will join Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide staff in a senior offensive analyst role
He also said in the same press conference that the playbook is the same. But Al is running it and it will be up to him to enhance it. Pete is prone to parsing quotes out of context to make something sound different than it was delivered. CMF specifically said he doesn't want his players having to learn a new system again.
Remember folks we shouldn’t listen to the coach. Clearly mainboarders know more than people who actually coach the teams.
When have I ever chastised people on Miami coaching hire process? I've been well removed from that shit and recruiting for years. Try again
All I'm saying is if we go by you're own coaches words y'all were wrong as fuck. Don't get pissy at me for rightfully calling you guys out when I had vitriol thrown at me for even suggesting Golden would have some say in the direction and play-calling on defense. Take the fucking L and keep it moving.
I am going by his words. I watched the press conference. They are using the same playbook. He's basically giving that playbook to Al, who will be able to adjust and enhance but the base defense is the same. That was the context of the quote. As I said above, Pete has a tendency to tweet specific quotes out of context to get fans going. In the same conference Freeman said he didn't want his players having to learn a third defense in three years. Again...the coach's words, not mine. The press conference is out there. Unwillingness to run CMF's defense is the reason Jon Heacock turned the job down weeks ago. Of course Golden will have say. As he should. They shouldn't hire a coach who can't be trusted to have say. Good thing is, he's had success on defense at every stop in his career except for the one where he inherited a program in shambles. He proved he wasn't the head coach to turn that around. We'll find out if they finally found one who can.
Golden didn’t inherit a defense in shambles. Miami has traditionally been good on defense for the most part even in down years so I’m not really interested in that crap. ND got to experience a great Miami defense first hand not to long ago in south Florida only two years removed from the Golden fiasco. Once again I hope it works out for y’all (I really don’t) but once again take the L and keep it moving
Ok. A program about to get hit by sanctions. I'll correct myself. And yes congrats on 2017. As much as we hear about it on this board it really must matter. I'm glad one program's low point of the last 5 years was able to intersect with another program's high point. I hope they hung that banner in a prominent place.
Miami barely got a slap on the wrist. Stop making excuses for golden being a disaster I’m south Florida. I’m not even paying attention to the rest because I wasn’t taking jabs at ND (even tho that game was fucking hilarious) I was merely helping you understand that talent couldn’t have been the issue of they completely fixed the defense and actually turned it into an elite one in less than two years. Once again y’all were fucking wrong. Good luck tho
Still not sure what we're wrong about. Al Golden is running the existing Notre Dame defense. He will be running it and will be responsible for adjustments, but they are not installing "his" defense. The entirety of the press conference shows that and one parsed quote out of context doesn't change it. Granted, there are ND fans who think CMF will be or should be heavy-handed with the defense. I'm not one of them. I'm not personally a fan of HCs taking that route as it impacts the rest of the team. He should be a HC, not a DC acting as HC. Things got better across the board when Brian Kelly took a step back from the offense a few years back, for example.

Honestly, it would be a good hire for y’all. He might be the only recruiter in the top 25 to 30 that doesn’t wear a blue blood logo. As a coach, I’d say the jury is still out. Would hate to see him go but it makes sense and would rather see him at UGA than at another B1G school that recruits NJ/Philly.
In that case, great hire. Look back at last 2 RU recruiting classes- minus our QB, pretty much all our best kids were recruited by Fran. Same for Rhule’s Baylor teams. This cycle, he’s a big reason why we are even mentioned by some of the bluechip FL wideouts, including H. Williams. So in terms of immediate dividends, there’s a chance he pays off there. I’d also imagine you guys would essentially have your pick of the Philly kids. Not sure if you’re in on the safety Stewart, but with Fran I’d say he’s either UGA or TAMU bound.
Apparently the job was his until he interviewed with the university president. Reports are he bombed. Relates well to 18 yo.s but not older academics. Don’t think that’ll be a hinderancebin his chosen profession.
Congrats on hiring a great recruiter to a school that recruits itself. Yes, I am mad (which is also the best barometer for rating a new hire). Now please stay out of New Jersey and keep sending Democrats to the Senate. Thank you in advance.
