The past 5-10 laps have really crushed my fantasy team. Bottas out. Then Tsunoda spins out. Then Perez spins out. Fuck me.

Just finished watching. Like others have said, excited for Lando over all else. Also, we might just have ourselves a fantastically tight race between Lewis & Max for drivers championship as well as Merc & RB for constructors championship. Need Sergio to show well cause you know Bottas won't have many or any other races as bad as that.

    Lewis got lucky af today.

Lewis got so lucky from that red flag. Charles got the worst end of that. Went from 2nd on the podium to fourth. Ferrari should still be happy with the end result.

Fun race. Always love F1 in the rain

Man, that was a dark five minutes for bottas. Lapped by Lewis, crashes with the guy who will probably take his seat at 190 mph, said guy gets out and yells at him, then a shot of him head down.

For the guy who seems to internalize this stuff the most (as far as I can tell), it seemed rough.

    To add to that:

the guy that passed him at Bahrain last year like it was nothing

    And

the same guy that was about to pass him in a WILLIAMS (yikes)

Bottas is great in clean air, but put him in traffic and he’s toast

Also, yes Lewis got so lucky today.

...but damn, that recovery drive was sick. Merc or not, his talent was really on display today

And he’s so damn nice. He was genuinely happy for Max and Lando. He had a huge smile on his face when congratulating Lando, and I think he still has a soft spot for McLaren and loves when they have success. I think he is seriously happy to have a tight field and have some great battles on track.

the f1 races are on ESPN/ESPN2.

If you have Netflix, I highly recommend Drive To Survive. They take some dramatic liberties, but it’s a great way to be introduced to the drivers and teams, as well as the sport as a whole

I’m a fan of many drivers and teams. I really just hope for great racing and scoring opportunities for the unlikely bunch. I don’t think I have a solid favorite driver and/or team

Again...they're focusing all efforts on the new 2022 car and they have 2 rookie drivers. They've said this time and time again so if they expect to be last every race this year I don't know why any fans should be surprised when that's the case.

First question......yes, it's such a breath of fresh air.

Second question, all qualifying and races are on ESPN....and don't pick a driver or team imo. You'll naturally gravitate fandom towards certain drivers and teams. Most of us itt don't have a single favorite team or driver I don't think. There are certainty some villains most of us have in common though.

You seem more versed in the intricacies of running a team (and quite proud of it!) than me, but wasting an entire season without trying because you’re pouring money into R&D for the future seems nonsensical considering the short shelf life of most of these non major teams.

But the felon owner might know what he’s doing.

There are completely new rules and regulations for the cars starting next year

haas could’ve poured tens of millions in this car to try to finish ahead of Williams or something or just allocate all of those resources to next season

I get that, it just seems there could’ve been a way to maybe bridge the team into next year without being completely embarrassing and endangering others at times.

They had to get two drivers who brought in $ or the team would cease to exist.

I'll ignore the condescending tone even though I have no clue what your problem with me is....and just say that what they're doing makes sense if you look at what the differences are between finishing 10th in the constructors championship compared to finishing say 8th.

Everyone has a yearly budget and they've decided to take most of this years budget and focus it towards the 2022 and beyond car instead of the car this year which will only be used for ~20 more races.

That’s fair. Apologies if I missed you already discussing this hence YOUR equally condescending “Again...” start to your response, but, that makes sense.

If they have an annual budget, how can they reallocate to 2022? Are you familiar with the rules around that or is it pretty open?

Also, are you saying the difference between tenth and eighth in the Constructor’s Cup are marginal?

Feel free to ignore if you’re done repeating yourself.

  42. Gallant Knight

They don’t have to submit their annual budget to anyone. They can just reallocate $ from this year to next on r&d

    Basically this^^^

Their team principal said they're spending all of their R&D budget this year on next year's car. Most other teams are much closer to 50/50. Teams are constantly testing and optimizing their cars every week via R&D. This year, Haas isn't.

From a dollars standpoint, yes. One of the F1 announcers either yesterday or today said on the telecast that their principle said they could spend something like $20 million on this year and maybe get 5 championship points out of the season which will mean basically nothing....or they could spend that same amount towards next year and it could result in double or even more championship points which would be significant.

Whether they actually end up worth a shit over the next several years is for sure still a huge question but it doesn't seem crazy to me to try this strategy.

based on the doc it feels like Gene was ready to pack it in last year.

Getting that Russian money along with German money extended the window. He’s not spending this year under the bullshit about focusing on 2022. They need Ferrari to provide a top tier engine in 22 or they will be sold.

The new concord agreement is much, much more owner friendly. So there’s a good chance that owners may actually make money in the sport moving forward. Also keep in mind that along with the brand new car for 2022 and the engine development freeze, Haas is building a new team HQ at Marinella next door to Ferrari, and with the cost cap taking on a lot of Ferrari’s extra personnel (which I’m certain Ferrari is contributing to financially somehow)

I find it much more likely that Haas will be a complete Ferrari B team if they don’t show improvement in the next few seasons starting in 22.

Ps. If Gene did decide to leave, I wonder if try and keep it American and look to Chip Ginnassi or (less likely with him owning Indy Car now) Penske. Selfishly I’d like to keep an American presence in the sport if we could.
