People are questioning him right now because of these comments, wtf is this bs about the media not talking about it? Maybe I am not following this pre nfl draft closely enough but it seems to have been the talk the last few days.
I’ll start a thread on the TMB mock draft and draft for my beloved Raiders (lifelong fan) but I will not update the OP and or do anything else that requires much effort at all.
Was that Herbert stuff about "love of the game because of his GPA" a big deal last year? I don't remember any of that, but I don't follow a ton of draft guys so maybe I just missed it
I don't remember seeing that, honestly. As I remember it the bulk of the serious Herbert criticism was about his offense and how often he had easy throws near the LOS.
Yeah, I remember some stuff about decision making and throws down the field, but nothing about love of the game or whatever. It's the draft and everyone has random shit said about them so I'm sure it was out there from someone. Just seems like we're getting into LeBron territory where because Skip Bayless says a bunch of stupid shit, I'm supposed to hate every player in the league or it's not consistent. It's not hard to find negative stuff said about every player. Just read stuff like Bob McGinn writes or anyone else who does the "scout speak" stuff where scouts are anonymously quoted. Or any scouting report from the internet gurus that points out 10 flaws for every player, even the ones they rank at the top of the draft.
If Trevor didn't love football he wouldn't have played this past year. He would've been a top 5 pick at worst. There's a shit ton of guys who eat, sleep, and breath football every year that can't play a lick. This shit is just manufacturing something to talk about in a slow part of the year.
There was a ton of “is he a leader?” Talk about herbert last year as well as questions about how a kid who is from Oregon and played at Oregon would do adapting elsewhere iirc
Around this time last year is when they started talking about the Bengals not taking Burrow. Truly the best time on the NFL calendar.
And that Herbert wants to be a doctor so how long will his heart be in football. Just dumb, lazy stuff.
Literally no one in Jax or fan of the Jaguars gives half of a shit about any of this, we are just as excited for our lord and savior joining us as the day the jets foolishly decided to win a game and give us the #1 pick.
The whole giving nfl players gifts or donating to their charity for their wedding is fucking nuts. The R fans did it for RG3 just for him to leave his wife and kid for a college girl like 2 years later. Might have done it for Cousins too. They’re pros, cheer for them and don’t send abusive messages and more than enough
So they can directly compare him to Fields, their pick unless/even if Trey Lance blows them away. Sorry Mac.
I’ve always wondered how much Avery actually helps develop a QB Jamie Newman took off the season and trained with Avery instead. Then he decided to play the senior bowl and had one of the worst performances for a QB, which I know is still more likely due to not playing in over a year Justin fields is another one that use to train with Avery and now works with Beck iirc
Listened to Chris Simms breakdown his QBs and i thought he seemed pretty measured. I get the sense that Lance goes third.
If I'm them and that happens I'd pick Smith and be happy with it. We have more than enough picks in the next few years. Get a premium guy which IMO Smith is. I'd prefer Chase, but Smith is a great consolation.
I’m still on the if we can’t get Pitts or Chase, trade back and take Waddle train. Sewell isn’t a horrible option either There’s also this:
I guess it depends on how far back we go, but my thinking is: A. There's a tier gap after Chase, Pitts, Smith IMO B. I don't think we can fall back very far and still get Smith or Waddle. Someone will absolutely take Waddle and his speed before 15 or so I think. So hope for Chase, be OK with Smith. Don't think you're falling back and getting either.
If Waddle is 100% recovered from his injury then he is absolutely in the same tier as Chase, Pitts and Smith.
I am amazed people are buying the smoke that the Niners are still in decision making mode. You don’t trade up this early in the process to get the third pick without knowing who you’re drafting. A lot of their work now feels like a dog and pony show so that when they draft Jones they can sell that they really did their homework on the other options. I won’t live in a word where Jones doesn’t go 3.
I feel like I have heard the opposite from other sources, like these guys should go more like 15 than top 5, but who the hell knows.
Idk who they’d be placating though. If the pick doesn’t cut it they’re all out of a job. No amount of due diligence will be enough. I think it’s Lance and the lazy pick by schefter and others was Mac.
