In no way do I believe the 08 Beijing Olympics turned a profit. Security costs have also been a major factor since 9/11.
with fans fully back here, it really just makes it that much more stark how shitty empty stadiums are. its gonna suck with no fans
Going from the Euro's to Copa with/without fans is incredible. The fake noise seemed ok during football games, but after witnessing events with fans, it's nowhere close. Will still watch.
Not sure if they've started but they are putting a baseball field in old Turner parking lots. Also.. I was talking about Herndon stadium earlier. It's crazier to me than the tennis center because it appears to be in town.
Herndon makes sense once you read up on Morris Brown's situation; and all HBCU athletics. But not like that was built for Olympics. Sad situation though the entire AUC is on the come-up now. Drumline was either filmed there or at CAU's stadium.
lol my god. What a scared little bitch throwing it all away. Checks out that his dumbass went to liberty
His excuse at least wasn’t some religious /conservative nonsense Said he couldn’t afford training days off which I still think is moronic compared to the alternative but at least he’s not Cole Beasley
Don’t have great defenders, too many iso guys, other teams have better chemistry; still favorite but gold is very far from a lock
Only watched about half but Tatum looked awful the whole time Could be good for them, def could use Holiday’s D
This is a C-tier lineup, let's be honest. Re-Redeem Team in 2024, let's go. also I will say again how sad it is that Steph never wanted to suit up. no clue why he's been so averse to international play, most every elite player wants to scoop up at least one gold to hang on their walls before they call it a career.
This team has Durant, lillard, bam, and a few others who would have made the team regardless and lost to the end of the miami Heat’s bench last game and to Australia today. Shits unacceptable.
Too busy bowing to communist China and flaming the woke mob! Not enough practice! - Fox News tomorrow
I went with the names I could remember off the top of my head and obviously the player on my favorite team would be one of them.
Games should not be in 80s and 90s with our offensive weapons. They’ve just shown no ball movement and add to that they don’t have a killer defensive lineup, it’s bad. Will be fun to follow agree but we can still care
I am no coach k defender but it seemed like he put a lot more effort into this than popovich and his style definitely seemed to work way better. Nba is so player focused now and the pro coaches have adapted to it so much that I feel like a college guy and the rah rah let’s play together and go get them type may be a better option than the nba coaches for the national team.
I love Pop but he's fucking 9-5 in international play, that's abhorrent. K was goddamn 75-1. I can't even wrap my head around 9-5 with USA talent and being one of the best and brightest HCs of all time.
While I dont really care about basketball in the olympics, I think it'd be safe to say theres nothing to see here. Wait til a game means something. If the rotations are still grade A fuckery, and the team looks lost then, then it's an issue. This isn't the type of team USA in the past where everybody gets their's. Durant might have to drop 35 a night.
Coach K lost in his first major international competition, and then benefitted from a truly elite generation of players buying in and giving up three summers in a row to win in 2008. There was some turnover between 08 and 12, but the newcomers played for three years together between 10-12. By 16, that generation was getting old and tired of giving up their entire summers, but fortunately, Spain got older faster and no one else had a complete enough roster. The 18 WC team was a mess, and this year's team hasn't even played together yet, immediately after a season that put a lot of miles on legs. Obviously, I'm not trying to downplay Krzyewski, but he was set up for success and Pop is basically dealing with a program that is right back where USA Basketball was in 2002.
Didn’t coach k play a big role in recruiting some of the stars like Kobe to play? I wonder if popovich has been that active. Talent wise I think I’d take this roster over the 2016 one.
I tend to agree. These are friendlies and these guys don't care. Kind of sucks, and we'll probably end up in the bronze medal game, but it's not like this team is going to lose to the likes of Nigeria and Australia when games are actually meaningful.
A little bit but he didn’t really have relationships with the stars (including Kobe) before 2006. The players all follow each other so once Colangelo and he got buy in from Kobe and LeBron, the team was set.
I mean, you realize the Aussies may very well win gold, right? if you want to spin it, you spin that the US looked markedly better against a superior opponent in Australia than they did against a far inferior Nigeria. realistically, the US will probably have to beat the Aussies at some point to win gold unless Australia chokes hard like they did in 2016. now, them stomping Argentina into the ground today when Argentina is a top 5 squad is a better sign. these are friendlies but there isn't the kind of talent gap that often exists that allows them to halfass a lot of games in the Olympics. they'll have to be "on" at every point in every game.
