Making the tourney is still a big deal for us so yea, it is progress. But it’s frustrating to watch this team piss away games because they have no clue on offense. Obvious that Pike gets his guys to play D and play hard, but I’ve seen better offensive sets from middle school teams.
turned the game on tonight with like 10 minutes left and immediately turned it off after seeing it was 38-28 with 10 minutes left
Iowa st has the 7th ranked class in the nation for 2023. That just tells me it’s possible to recruit to Iowa. Just not with Fran. Fran is a solid coach and Iowa is willing to stick with a good coach making it an appealing destination for a coach. Fran is like Pelini for nebraska football tho. Constantly has better than average records, but tiring antics. Iowa also has a decent history in basketball, but goes back to the 80s and before that. So pretty much non-impactful now. The reality is Fran puts Iowa in the tournament and then proceeds to shit his pants. He’s helped develop a NPOY and a lottery pick. Both on the same team and couldn’t make it past the first weekend. Iowa fans are desperate for a sweet 16. That’s literally all we are wanting. If he was able to produce that people would be more willing to stick with him.
Fran and sons are much better then the Lickliters. Speaking of which, what is the deal with Iowa coaches and their nepotism? Holy shit Iowa has a string of it.
Ha I almost put that in my last post also. Iowa has a serious nepotism issue. Gary Barta don’t give a shit tho.
The lickliter years were down right terrible and that's why everyone is happy with Fran. Fran has brought us back from some very times and I appreciate that but he's hit his ceiling.
It’s also a much more entertaining style. People can deal with boring if it wins games (see the punt driven offense of Iowa football) but Lickliter was slow and boring with terrible results.
Also, just for clarity, over the last 10 years MSU has won: 3 Regular Season Conference Titles 3 Big Ten Tournaments 2 NCAA Regionals Michigan has won: 2 Regular Season Conference Titles 2 Big Ten Tournaments 2 NCAA Regionals Michigan has made 3 more sweet 16s (7 vs 4), 1 more elite 8 (4 vs 3), two national title games (MSU lost in the semis), and has missed the tournament once in that time frame. MSU has won more games and has a higher win % in conference and overall in this time period. I think those resumes are pretty even, but will concede Michigan had a better decade since they got to play for a natty twice and we didn't. I would not trade our extra conference and regular season championship for more sweet 16 appearances, though some may disagree. MSU also holds a 12-9 edge head to head.
Iowa State landed a 5 star from Iowa I think that's pretty rare for there to even be a 5 star from Iowa, let alone get his commitment.
Let's just focus on the facts and what we know to be true. All Assembly Hall fans suck farts, but especially those from Assembly Hall, Jr.
Rutgers Michigan on Thursday is essentially an elimination game. And Rutgers is not winning that game
I almost think you have to roll the dice and just tell cam spencer to take 30 shots because that’s probably the most attainable path to victory.
Michigan is a supremely dumb team (I say that knowing full well how dumb IU is), but they’re talented enough to fall into 60 points against Rutgers. Whereas I have no level of confidence that Rutgers can get to 60
I’m sure Michigan fans were putting a premium on conference titles during our dark days of 2002-2008 when we consistently fell short in league but still made runs in the tournament. Now it’s only S16s that matter. Ah who am I kidding, there weren’t any UM basketball fans then.
I don’t understand what happened to him. He’s always been thoroughly unlikable, but he used to be a decently productive offensive player. Now he’s borderline unplayable due to his offensive ineptitude but pikiell refuses to sit him.
Yea, he hasn’t been the same since the tripping incident. I know he got a lot of shit for that and maybe it messed with his head, but you can’t expect to not get destroyed by people on social media when you do something like that. Assuming at the end of the season we’re told he was playing with a mangled shoulder. How accurate that is
I'm absolutely delighted that your program seems to be circling the drain, but why would Essegian transfer, aside from wanting to play a different style of ball?
If I was a guard with talent and shooting ability, I wouldn’t want to share a back court with Chucky Hepburn
Fucking ref show. What a terrible call to foul out Battle. Obvious charge. 10-2 foul differential in the half and it’s not a situation where one team is aggressive and the other is not.
Streaking! I’m on the Minny train! (Had the same post queued for NEB, kinda rooting for Tomigawa) But who wins B1G tourney? Lot of mediocre teams…Purdue/Indy/Mary final? We’re obvs all first round exits in the tourney
