100%. How am I supposed to hit the Early Bird supper if the game starts at 3:30? And don't get me started on 7:30 pm kicks.
Personally I am looking forward to the, "if this had been a whiteout at night we would've beaten them," commentary from PSU fans when we inevitably lose by 5 or something.
Noon kicks sucked as a student and then to a lesser extent when I was going to a lot of games but now living out west I don't mind them at all. Gets the disappointment out of the way nice and early.
I attend usually all the games. Nice little breakfast tailgate, go into the game, postgame tailgate to watch the other games or head to a bar or back to the Airbnb to watch the night games. It’s perfect.
Ohio Stadium didn’t get permanent lights until 2014. They would erect temporary towers with lights outside the stadium and beam light in. Now, I wish everything was a 3:30 or 7:30 kickoff.
I am rooting for this or NBC. Hopefully we don’t have Peacock or whatever CBS’ thing is called rammed down our throats to watch us blow out MAC schools
3:30 is the GOAT start time for big time games but prefer noon if we’re playing someone that’s not good. 8pm impacts the social life of this non-pussy getting 31 year old too much
I’d like to think they’d step college up a bit if they were broadcasting more than 1 school. With that being said would it really be a downgrade from the crap ESPN throws on ESPN2 at noon? Because that’s realistically what they’re fighting over
Stroud's amazing, but Fields always felt inevitable. ^^^I had that typed as a response from a few days ago and never hit send, apparently...leaving it. As for TV...Fox would be fine if we could get a replay here or there at the expense of 2-3 of the 17,000 commercials each game. Someone should find the hard data that shows Fox shows more commercials than the other channels showing sports because anecdotally, it certainly feels like it.
I don’t care who gets the non-Fox portion of the TV package, but if it’s not ABC/ESPN, then the conference better make sure that wholesale changes are made toward playoff selection and broadcast. A divorce from ABC/ESPN will be messy, and they still drive the college football news cycle whether we like it or not.
BTN will have the bottom tier games like it always has had them. Fox has been leaked as the lead bidder for top tier games, like it has been. We just don’t know how many games Fox has bought, like whether it will be a somewhat even split.
I share the concern about it impacting the CFP selection but isn't it already pretty SEC-centric these days already? And I'm sure it'll get worse having the entire package regardless of having any B1G broadcasting rights. Short of just not recognizing the B1G's existence like they did the NHL for 15+ years I'm not sure what else they can do. ESPN is one of the last places I would go for non-broadcast college football content with so many better options out there.
It would seem to be very unwise for ESPN to not acknowledge the B1G’s existence. I’ve seen suggestions it may be a split of all of them: Fox - top tier, big noon CBS - 3:30 game of the week NBC - primetime DH’s with ND and then BTN gets scraps as always. Not sure B1G has the weekly content to really fill those slots though with good games. I don’t really care about a divorce from ESPN entirely. We’ll have enough money from our deals that can sway any future CFB decisions regardless. I want the CBS trumpets pretty badly though
The Big Ten media deal should be finalized any time. There have been leaks about it for months and most expect a final deal in June. The PAC 12 expires 2023 and Big 12 in 2024. Fox reportedly is angling to keep both, after it secures the Big Ten. Notre Dame/NBC expires 2025. The College Football Playoff TV contract expires in 2025. The SEC clearly wants it to go to ESPN. Our AD has been pretty adamant that the format needs to expand to more teams and split the broadcast among networks (i.e. Fox).
As I was reading some of the articles about MBIII this week it made me think back to 2003 when Maroney arrived. Barber had a medical redshirt for 2002 and in his absence Terry Jackson II rushed for 1300 yards and Thomas Tapeh had 900. Both Jackson and Tapeh returned in 2003 but Tapeh played FB primarily and Jackson was relegated to backing up Barber and Maroney and then transferred at year end as Barber/Maroney both surpassed 1000 yards for the first teammate combo in NCAA history.
https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Journal/Issues/2022/06/06/Insiders/Sports-media.aspx It's hurry up and wait on Big Ten rights deal Interest in the Big Ten’s media package remains so high — and negotiations remain so intense — that sources say it’s unlikely a deal will be finalized before the end of June. A month ago, Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren expressed optimism that the conference could have a deal by Memorial Day, but sources say negotiations are more likely to run until late summer. Fox Sports already has a deal to renew its place as the conference’s biggest media partner. The size of that package still is undetermined as the conference tries to figure out whether to split the rest of the package among one, two or three other media companies. CBS, ESPN, NBC and Warner Bros. Discovery still are negotiating actively, as is Amazon, sources said. The conference’s cable channel, BTN, is certain to wind up with a package, too. Majority owned by Fox, BTN controls the conference’s media rights and has been negotiating with other media companies looking for the rights.
Is it too much to hope that Leonhard leaves for a head coaching job after this season and D'Onofrio becomes the Badger DC?
(checks Michigan recruiting, SCOTUS threads) No, but I would love to talk about B1G expansion right now.
Yeah I don't disagree - just got a text from someone who would know saying to look out for possible B1G expansion news today and specifically mentioned adding 2 schools. Could be total bullshit, but thought I'd ask.
