The only thing holding it back is attendance. Tough to sell 105,000 tickets to a Thursday night game.
Just listened to a guy argue for 10 minutes that expanding the playoff from 4 teams to 8 or 12 doesn’t make it any more inclusive for conferences outside of the SEC.
As a fan of a non-SEC school that would have 3 or 4 play off appearances in a 12 team system instead of none, what a fucking idiot.
Week 17 has Monday night football to compete with now. Wonder if they navigate around to the NFL on Monday, January 1, 2024 when the Rose and Sugar host the semis.
Unless I'm completely wrong, thought ESPN had pretty much a free path to a playoff monopoly if they extended the current deal before 2025. Why is it surprising that the other power conferences wanted nothing to do with it. Have a bidding war with multiple networks getting playoff games and wow, we'll get to 12 teams
I like the idea of a 12 team playoff if conference title games are eliminated football is brutal on the body, give up a meaningless game
pretty much has been the SEC invitational featuring Clemson, the best team in Ohio/Indiana/Michigan, or a surprise guest now for years
I like the 12 team model. The top 4 teams getting a bye, preserves the importance of the regular season. Where the games are hosted, is probably a snagging point. I’m sure the bowls want to host them, to boost attendance #s, and I’m sure the schools want to host them on-campus. There could also be an NIT style ‘playoff’ of the next 12 teams, that could help fulfill some bowl contracts/tie-ins. Not likely at all, but that is an extra 11 games that bowls could claim. I’d watch it, but I’m also a CFB junkie.
Damn. And he was only a year or two away from being allowed to get targets. Can't hit women, though, so you gots to go.
To be fair, stuffing your face and pounding adult beverages is a lot more enjoyable when you don’t have to worry about the game.
He’s predicting Bama/Texas to be a Big Nude game since the Big 12 gets the first pick of weeks for the Big 12 in even years. Makes sense. I am sure Bama fans are going to hate it.
That is a very impressive group of coaches and Jedd Fisch brought in a quality recruiting class which I had not previously known about, things are looking up in Tucson. Very interesting, thanks to Bruce for doing his job informing us of these developments.
