Much more entertaining Spanish GP than a lot of previous ones! Merc's a coming which is great but they have to get their cooling figured out ASAP. Issues when you're running in clean air is a huge issue. George had a great race as is the norm for him. He's awesome. Now we just need McLaren to get their shit together and we've got the full stew going. As others have said....Max losing his mind about the DRS not working was hilarious but that had to be so frustrating.
So Lando has hayfever and tonsillitis and still completely wiped the floor with Ricciardo. Not good for Danny unless he had car issues that they haven't acknowledged yet.
A P12 that was closer to P14/P15 in pace and only that high because of some fuck ups and failures Not a promising day for him or McLaren
Mick and Bottas going for a two stop was just dumb. Cost Mick points, and maybe a spot of two for Bottas as well. Im sure they were hoping for a SC but at some point you’re just hoping against hope.
Updated for all the Max lovers and haters out there. Podiums (40) 19 Wins 16 2nd place 5 3rd place Other Races (18) 4th in Russia in 2019 after taking grid penalty for engine change 5th at Silverstone in 2019 (Vettel incident led to spin while running 3rd) 6th in Mexico in 2019 (contact with Hamilton and Bottas separately) 6th in Turkey in 2020 when Red Bull put the wrong wing on his car 8th in Monza in 2019 after starting in last due to engine stuff 9th Hungary last year (Bottas Torpedo) 12 DNFs (3 of these, and I included Silverstone last year in the list, Max probably got too aggressive; the other 9 were engine / tires or getting hit in the back)
first race i've watched where there were no yellows i may have to re-think my, "never pit until a caution is out" strategy
Wonder if Merc’s cooling using is due to how tightly packaged their car is. This question might out my stupidity. I’m so happy for how well Checo is preforming and how RB have been his saving grace after Stroll well… Stroll’d him. I’m sure he’s level headed enough to realize what a great opportunity he has with Red Bull, but that does have to cut deep.
They said he’s in the beginning of contract talks with RB for a long term deal at the end of the race. I think today’s “team playing” only helps him get that second deal.
I get that people thought ricciardo was going to compete to win races. But it seems mclaren has whiffed on their car for this year. Lando has said as much in his interviews. Hopefully they can figure something out.
Magnussen drove his front right straight into him, kicked Hamilton's rear to the left for more contact.
More like Kevin was giving him zero room and Lewis had a bit of understeer. Racing incident, just like seeing the razor thing margins these guys deal with.
Yea he left some room and then squeezed down and left no room at all. Agree that's just racing, just unfortunate bc Lewis seemed to have his first good run of the year.
Don't think McLaren wants to eat that final year of his deal... so they have no other choice but to keep plugging away. Plus I don't know who they would replace Danny with?
Yuki has improved v. last year but Red Bull is incredibly cutthroat with drivers and has history of switching seats around...wouldn't be shocking at all for him to lose his seat
reading that article makes me think Liberty has every financial incentive to drop the race, which they will justify with the position that it’s a parade and not good for racing.
Why is that? I don’t know much about his racing career besides what I saw on DTS. Does he bring significant sponsorship
Based on Yukis current form I can’t imagine him losing his seat unless he goes into the crapper for the rest of the season. He’s been out driving Gasly most of the year so far.
how many people stop watching F1 if there isn’t a race in Monaco? More or less than $60 million worth? I’d have to think Monaco recognizes that and they’ll be fine making zero track upgrades but paying full freight and/or sorting out the sponsorship issues. But if they don’t for whatever reason, F1 already has willing hosts.
Well to start, Yuki himself admitted he was surprised that he didn't lose his seat last year and is on a 1-year contract; Gasly is contracted through next season and generally thought of as having the chops for a top tier team seat (but no guarantees that will ever happen)
That would stink to lose Monaco but Liberty will probably put that week’s race in Branson or Mar A Lago instead.
I think that's a little narrow of a view of the race. It's hard to calculate how important it is to have hundreds of billionaires at an event that relies on sponsorship Also: it's pretty transparently a negotiating threat imo
I’ve watched a few clips and on boards and it looks amazing. Hope one day indy car will be there. I think a Porsche GT cup driver called it America’s Nurburgring. https://fb.watch/dcWSPvOD16/
Herta probably ends up in F1 at some point but doubt it’s before ricciardos contract is up. Mclaren is giving Herta a test drive in last years car. Not sure when that happens.
Just saying where there’s smoke there’s fire. Them giving Herta that test caused rifts throughout McLaren’s racing program, especially with Pato O’Ward.
