For Bahrain, sure. In general, no. I don’t care about the times for preseason testing. All of the teams have more pace than they showed (Mercedes more than most). However, when actually watching how the cars handle Mercedes looked bad. They were dealing with porpoising more than most, they had terrible understeer and were locking up quite frequently, and the car looked extremely squirrelly on the exits. I get why people don’t buy Mercedes’ statements from this weekend. They are the boy who cried wolf (heh). However, sandbagging is them lifting and coasting, turning their engine down, etc…. You don’t lock up frequently on purpose, and you don’t make your drivers miserable in the car if you have an easy fix for it. Both of which were applicable all three days of testing - visibly more so than Red Bull and Ferrari.
Christian and Toto probably just laugh it up together when the cameras are off. They’re rivals sure, but they both seem to “get it” when it comes to stirring the pot. It’s cheeky British banter vs presumed Austrian structured seriousness (I actually find Toto quite funny) of two guys who have lead the teams that have dominated the sport for the past 12 years. Deep down they’re just cheesing it up for the fun of it.
Redbull dominated the sport under Christians leadership for years prior to this recent Mercedes run. I don’t think jealousy or a inferior complex is what motivates these comments from Horner.

Ferrari said that Mercedes has the engines turned down based on gps data. I do agree that Mercedes is not a good handling car, I believe that RB and Ferrari are well ahead on that aspect. But Mercedes speed has always been the reason for its domination. Speed will overcome handling for a majority of the circuits. I think we’re going to see a wild season opener. We’re going to see reliability issues taking drivers out. We’re going to see some crashes thanks to closer racing. And then you have the wild card of how legit preseason was. If I’m going to predict it… Charles Max Lewis is our finish
I think Toto and Christian both dislike the other and think their grievances are genuine, they also are 100% self aware of the game they are playing. I think Christian wakes up in the morning smiling thinking about what antagonistic shit he’s going to say that day.
I don’t think I was downplaying Mercedes run. Simply letting you know that Horner has no reason to be jealous. The reason for Mercedes 8 straight titles is because Mercedes saw how far ahead Redbull was when the entered the sport and took the final two seasons under the old regs to punt on that car to prep for the era we are finishing up. Just giving you more backstory outside of looking at a wiki chart of titles won.
