If I remember right, the plan for VW Group is going to have both Porsche and Audi enter with Porsche probably buying RB Power Train, rebranding and supplying engines to both Audi and Porsche works teams (as well as RB)? Is this still what people think?
Yeah. Audi I guess was trying to come in and buy mclaren but i don't think it worked out how they wanted, I haven't seen it reported that those talks are dead.
I believe they claimed that Audi would be the engine supplier for RB and Alpha Tauri. And that Porsche would buy a team and provide its own engine. F1 teams called bullshit on that because of the collusion that could happen. So I'm curious if the Porsche dream is dead and Audi will come in solo as an engine manufacture and team. Going to be a weird relationship with RB if that is the case.
I'm pretty sure Audi is going to buy a team. They have had pretty public talks with McLaren and offered like 700 million for the company. But I think Mclaren was trying to hide the F1 part of the business from the sale. Not sure how accurate that report is that the own 25% of sauber, but if that's the case then I'd think they take over alpha for 2026. Zak Brown has knocked back the continued speculation that Audi could buy out the McLaren team ahead of their F1 entry in 2026. Volkswagen have confirmed Audi and Porsche will join the Formula 1 grid in 2026 when the next generation of engine regulations comes in. Exactly what format that will take is unknown for the time being, although the rumour mill is indicating Porsche are set to link up with Red Bull as an engine supplier. Audi, however, are being connected more as a potential constructor, and the most likely route to that status would be to take over an existing team rather than setting one up from scratch. There are several potential candidates for that, e.g. Sauber, who run the Alfa Romeo team, Williams and Aston Martin. But news agency Reuters have been sticking to their story for some time that Audi have put a bid of 500 million euros (around £420m) on the table for McLaren. https://www.planetf1.com/news/mclaren-continued-audi-buyout-rumours/
This is from April saying Audi upped their bid https://frontofficesports.com/audi-raises-mclaren-offer-to-718m-to-enter-formula-one/
so i had them flipped… this “sale” would go in line with the narrative of both joining. I guess Alpha Romero partnership with Ferrari would be ending 2025 to make this work.
Gasly commits to another year at Alpha Tauri, forgoing the option he had to bail if he didn't get the 2nd RB seat next year (already promised to Checo)
Good video with the possible incoming teams. Wonder what the hang ups of Andretti and Audi/Porsche were
No shortage of terrible people in Max’s circle Piquet was speaking in November to Motorsport Talk’s Ricardo Oliveira in Portuguese about Hamilton’s clash with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix in 2021, which ended with the Dutch driver going off the track and suffering a major impact with the barriers. The video of the interview was picked up by Brazilian media including CNN, which reported his words as he referred to the incident. It included an epithet that can be translated as the N-word. Piquet, now 69, won the world championship in 1981, 1983 and 1987. His daughter Kelly Piquet is Verstappen’s partner. The Brazilian driver has a record of issuing unpleasant comments, including, while he was driving, a defamatory accusation toward Ayrton Senna of being gay and referring to Nigel Mansell’s wife as “ugly”. Last year Piquet drove as a chauffeur to Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, at the country’s Independence Day.
i'd say it's not only clear that max is racist but also that max's fans are racist. more racist, even.
Sucks for Max that the haters have to resort to the whole guilt by association game but it's 2022 and that's what they do. That's the price you pay for being on top of the mountain nowadays.
I think it would be wise for Max to put something out there condemning what was said. Nelson speaks for himself and Max has nothing to do with it but as the reigning WDC I think he is obligated to more or less. He’s clearly in an awkward spot.
"my dad is racist. my partner's father is racist. my partner likes some racist stuff on social media. they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. anyways, let's go racing"
