Seems I like Banchero more than most of the draft guru types online. I get that he's bad defensively right now, but a lot of the stuff I'm reading has him clearly behind Holmgren and Smith and that kind of confuses me.
Tobias has been calling him Jabari Parker 2.0 for a while now, KOC has been calling him Chris Webber 2.0. That seems a little ambitious but I like him a lot too
It's because he looks like Jabari Parker. Holmgren is a unicorn so the mind is running wild, and Jabari Smith seems like the safest guy to project in the entire draft. Even Smith's worst case scenario is a useful NBA player.
Watching Banchero's highlights remind me so much of Blake. He's not close to Blake's early stuff in terms of athleticism, but he's got similar skills and those spin moves around the rim on drives and post ups look exactly like Blake to me.
Parker had the makings of a very good offensive player if he hadn’t torn his ACL twice in three years. Probably a terrible defender regardless though
You don't understand why a defensively disinterested, offensively dynamic power forward would get a Jabari Parker comp? Banchero has like an inch and 5 pounds on Parker. Banchero: 17/7/3 on 47/33/73 splits Parker in college: 19/8/1 on 47/36/75 splits That 3 apg does stand out, he can definitely do more things than Parker could with the ball. But I don't think the comp is that unfair.
The size difference matters, considering Parker was a wing who wasn't athletic enough to guard other wings. At least not the version we saw in the NBA after he shredded his knee twice. Banchero's a 4/5, and is more than athletic enough to play there if he decides he wants to play better D. Offensively, Banchero nearly tripled Parker's assists per game in college. He averaged more assists per game than any of the college guards who are going to go in the lottery. A 19-year-old big with that kind of playmaking ability is rare and completely different as a player to what Parker was coming out.
I think past good luck tonight with a shot at Smith or Banchero I'd like the Pacers to swing for the fences on Shaedon Sharpe in that 4-6 range. Mathurin maybe as well.
Perfect fits with Orlando: Jabari - Perfect interchangable forward with Franz, who can handle the ball and make plays that Jabari can't yet. We have 3 PG to set him up that are signifcantly better than the Auburn guards he played with. Chet - He is the prototype build/skillset that the FO drools over, and can play the Bamba role next to WCJr Murray - Another interchangeable F to pair with Franz and defend multiple postiions Mathurin - Another versatile athletic jack of all trades, master of none that we always seem to end up with Moderate fits with Orlando: Banchero - Questionable fit next to WCJr, would fit next to Bamba/Isaac better but one is a rFA and one is constantly MIA Sharpe - Guy hasn't played in a year, and may not be big enough to play/guard 3s, but they still dont have the #1 scorer and he's worth the shot Bad fits with Orlando: Ivey - Like the player but another iffy shooting combo guard next to Fultz/Anthony/Suggs/Hampton is far from ideal. Griffin - Looks like a 3 and D guy who isn't good at D yet
i'm not going to freak out if portland drops to 7-9. this seems like an awesome draft for wings + bigs. i could hear the argument for anyone but ivey in the top 8 or so.
Last year was kind of pretty close to the standings at the top. I think we get some variety tonight. I've run the simulations and predict Sacramento and Washington are in the top 4, with the Kings getting the top pick.
Think Orlando deserves it since they have drafted three HOFs with their three number one picks. It’s just any pick after that they can’t pick.
i guess i don't really follow the nba draft much. why are a bunch of prospects there? are they combining this with a combine workout or something?
well see what kind of pull worldwide wes still has if this was 10-15 years ago knicks would be walking away with #1 for sure
