except good but yeah
Pep already had a stint with the Bears a decade ago and I’m still traumatized. I think Pep moves around so much he’s bound to run across some good QB play because the law of averages. I guess we can add Herbert and Mills to his Andrew Luck case study but I’m taking a hard pass on Chicago part 2.
nah I think you covered it pretty well
Oh poor Justin fields
So fire the head coach because his lack of ability to create an offense and then bring in the guy that was just fired because of his lack of ability to be able to hire a good offensive staff. Genius.
If you have a HC opening, talking to Flores about it seems like a reasonable idea. You don't have to hire the guy if you don't like what you hear.
Flores does enough things well that he should get another shot. His inability to hire and keep staff is a concern but in the right situation you can mitigate that.
The Bears probably aren't the right spot though.
tim mcdonnell is mara's nephew
He's also 40 years old and just got fired. It's possible he learns from that and becomes better at those parts of the job. And, if that happens, that's a pretty darn good coaching candidate. Only way to find out what (if anything) he took from that experience is to talk to him.
I liked Flo, and on defense he was great with his hires and scheme etc
but his hires and inability to trust the guys on offense were his downfall. Went through I think 4 OC’s in 3 years and a new OL coach every year and honestly probably should have done it again this offseason
idk if that’s his inability to work well with guys on that side of the ball, nobody worth a shit wanting to work for him or what but if he wants to get his second HC job right he needs to fix that aspect
he certainly has that New England prickly personality and that rubbed a lot of coaches and players the wrong way and some are saying that was the main reason he was fired as the relationships he had with his GM, coaches and players had soured but I tend to think it was the constant turnover on offense that was the bigger reason
My current predictions
Raiders - Rich Bisaccia or Jim Harbaugh
Jaguars - Kellen Moore
Broncos - Nathaniel Hackett
Dolphins - Dan Quinn
Bears - Brian Daboll
Vikings - Eric Bienemy
yup checks out
I don’t see the Dolphins bringing in a defensive guy but just like every single time in the past with this franchise I will be wrong
Got to think Urban Meyer gets a look at one of these jobs.
Also, Jags should hire Doug Pederson. Too risky to hire another first time head coach again.
He just got fired. Clearly there were some issues there. I'm not saying there weren't. But all of the things you bring up in this post seem like the kinds of things I'd like to ask Flores about in an interview setting and hear what he has to say about them. Coaches are allowed to get better with experience, just like players.
I’m not saying not to interview, just adding context as to why a bears fan wouldn’t be thrilled at the thought of him as the bears next HC
Gotta think Pederson gets another shot somewhere this cycle if he wants it.
Raiders - Harbaugh? (Bisaccia loses momentum when LV gets blown out this weekend)
Jaguars - Pederson
Broncos - Quinn
Dolphins - Moore
Bears - Bieniemy
Vikings - Flores
Texans - McDaniels
Giants - Judge
also think the Saints should trade Sean Payton (think either Bill Simmons or Robert Mays was the first to suggest this idea) and just start their franchise over
Run game guru after you chose Tua over your coach, huh?
Dabo to the dolphins
broncos will go offense imo
they just fired a better defensive coach than quinn
I don't think Tua specifically had a lot to do with it.
yeah, probably. i guess Daboll needs a job. But with Harbaugh maybe coming in from CFB and Pederson/Flores maybe taking jobs as former HCs, I have to assume some hot coordinator is passed up
The Dabo/Watson reunion tour in Miami will certainly be something to behold.
dabo and deshaun to the raiders with renfrow
carr to the dolphins
not sure where you read that
Miami twitter guys all seem to be going gaga over McDaniel. Can't say I know much about him except that he seems well liked in SF.
Running outside zones behind Trent Williams is quite the stepping stone it seems
Being a HC is such a different animal than being an assistant, so I don’t like to judge anyone solely by how their offense or defenses perform. That said, I am not sure how much I can trust anything McDaniel has done with the Niners considering that is so obviously Shanahan’s offense.
Seems smarter to hire mcvays OC before Shanahans
Look at this fucking nerd
Hiring based who's offense or defense is good that particular year is insanity but everyone keeps doing it. Coordinator jobs and HC jobs have some overlap in job skills but there's a reason guys who hardly coordinated or even never did like the Harbaughs and Tomlin have had success as HCs and guys like Wade Phillips who has as good of a reputation as a DC can have couldn't hack it. It's much more about inter-personal skills, time and people management, leadership, ability to delegate to the right people, ect.
Shanahan isn’t even that good lol
dude was probably on the verge of getting fired if they didn’t make the playoffs
That may be true but I don't think it necessarily speaks to whether or not his OC is a good HC candidate or not.
I’m saying he shouldn’t even be considered
that’s shanahan’s offense
No one hire Bieniemy. That's Reid's offense.
No one hire Hackett. That's LaFleur's offense.
No one hire O'Connell. That's McVay's offense.
No one hire Leftwich. That's Arians'/Brady's offense.
No one hire Mayo. That's Belichick's defense.
No one hire Fraizer. That's McDermott's defense.
Did I miss anyone else who shouldn't be considered for anything?
Do I detect a trend?
you missed my entire point
Shanahan sucks and no one should want his offense
I keep seeing the bolded and it feels like punditry. He went through 2 OCs his first 2 years, then hired co-OCs for the 3rd year who were likely not going to be fired after this season. That isn't to say he didn't make mistakes in hiring staff, but he was also saddled with a lot of dogshit and won more games than he should have with that dogshit.
Your point is stupid.
Whether Shanahan's offense sucks or not (it doesn't, but whatever), McVay and LaFleur both came from working under Shanahan in that offense. Too bad the Rams and Packers considered those guys when they were hiring HCs. I'm sure both teams regret those decisions.
wow dtx insisting something sucks for no actual reason. never seen that before
mcvay has yet to prove he’s worth the hype and LaFleur has Rodgers to carry him but still hasn’t been able to win a sb like fucking mike mccarthy did
Checkmate nerd I’ll be taking no further comments
Wow Tobias complaining about something i said
block me instead of being a little bitch
