I don't know anything about DeMeco Ryans' personality, but a guy that young with that little experience seems like a really tough fit in that market with that team. Maybe he'd be up for it, but that's a big ask from everyone involved (including the fan base, in all likelihood).

Some rumblings in Denver that Quinn sort of bombed the interview(supposedly staffing plans were not good) but Jonathan Gannon was crazy impressive and is now the favorite.

He's 67 years old. I know he wants to be a HC again, but at this point it's almost better for him to not get one and have people continue to talk about him like they do now because Patricia sucked so hard at replacing him.

The Caldwell thing is weird because it doesn't sound like Chicago is all that close to deciding. Seems more likely he'd decline interviews with Minnesota and LV because he doesn't think he has a chance at those jobs than because he's about to get the Chicago or Jacksonville job.

Here's the full article on all the coaching rumors from ESPN...

    [IMG][IMG]
    What's next for the Giants?

Fowler: General managers go into interviews with a list of head-coaching candidates with whom they'd like to work. Sometimes, hot names overlap. I'm told that's the case with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who is on the list of multiple general manager finalists. The Giants have officially requested to speak with Quinn, and I'm expecting them to do the same with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, whose name has been involved in the GM proceedings. Buffalo executive Joe Schoen is believed to be close with Daboll, who can help the Giants' quarterback position, whether that's Daniel Jones or someone else (the new GM will make that call).

Todd Bowles is another name to watch here; the former Jets head coach has New Jersey ties. And here's a long-shot name to watch: Marvin Lewis, who went 131-122-3 as the Bengals coach from 2003 to 2018. He has been an adviser at Arizona State under coach Herm Edwards since 2019.

Graziano: Yeah, it's interesting that the Giants put in for Quinn before finishing the GM interviews. There has been a sense around the league for a while that Quinn could be the Broncos' guy, and maybe the Giants have heard so many good things about him from their GM candidates that they want to see if they can throw a Hail Mary and get him before he's gone.

I also expect them to look into former Dolphins coach Brian Flores and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Flores and GM candidate Ryan Poles, an executive for the Chiefs, both went to Boston College, as did Giants owner John Mara. Poles and Flores also share the same agent, as is the case with Schoen and Daboll, and it's not unusual for agents involved in this process to try to pair their clients up with teams.

My sense is the Giants should have a GM in place soon, maybe even by the weekend, and you'll start to see their list of head-coach candidates unfurl a bit once that happens.

Keep an eye on Jim Caldwell in Chicago
Graziano: According to multiple sources, the Raiders and Vikings both reached out to former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell this week to request to interview him, and he declined both requests. This indicates strongly that Caldwell believes he will get one of the other open jobs, and my understanding is that he's in the mix in both Chicago and Jacksonville and already is reaching out to candidates for his staff.

If I had to bet right now, I'd say Caldwell ends up in Chicago, where former Colts general manager Bill Polian is helping direct the search, though it's obviously interesting that Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is scheduled for a second interview there. The Bears were interviewing Bills defensive coordinator and former Vikings coach Leslie Frazier on Friday, and I'm told there's still support for Frazier in their building. Former Eagles coach Doug Pederson is also someone to watch in Chicago if Caldwell doesn't turn out to be its guy.

What we know about Jim Harbaugh and the Raiders' job
Graziano: We were the first, back in December, to tell you to watch out for the Raiders and Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. The latest I've been told is that he has had a contract extension offer on his desk from Michigan for nearly two weeks now but is waiting to see what happens with the Raiders' job. He has interest in returning to the NFL, where he was 49-22-1 in four seasons as the 49ers coach from 2011 to 2014, and in the Raiders specifically.

The Raiders' season just ended last Saturday, and team owner Mark Davis was waiting for the end of the season before beginning this process. So it could be just a matter of time before things are finalized and Harbaugh is the new Raiders coach. If it doesn't happen, yes, interim coach Rich Bisaccia deserves and will get a look, but I've also been told to watch out for Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as a candidate here.

Fowler: Bisaccia and Davis met at length Wednesday afternoon, and the word out of Las Vegas is the meeting went well. But Davis conveyed he has a process he must go through to finalize head-coaching plans. So Bisaccia remains in the mix for the full-time job, but Davis will interview other candidates. And the more he interviews, the harder it might be to keep the interim coach.

While that fascinating Harbaugh subplot outlined above percolates, the Raiders could crystallize their general manager search after firing Mike Mayock earlier this week. A Patriots-style attack could be in order: GM candidate Dave Ziegler, the Pats' director of player personnel, has history with current Raiders exec DuJuan Daniels, who came from New England. They both know head-coach candidate and Patriots defensive coach Jerod Mayo well.

The expectation is that Indianapolis exec Ed Dodds is in the mix here, but as of Thursday afternoon the Colts had not received an interview request for him. Dodds has turned down jobs before, but the Raiders' playoff roster could appeal to him.

Who is this year's Brandon Staley?
Graziano: One of the hottest names out there is that of Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who I'm told made a very strong impression in his interview with the Texans and is considered by some in that building to be the current front-runner for the job. A head-coach job in this cycle would represent a rapid rise for Gannon, who was the Colts' defensive backs coach two years ago and is coming off his first season as a coordinator.

But those who have worked with him laud his ability to connect with various types of people, build up the confidence of the players and coaches around him and maintain strong relationships. Judging a coordinator based on the way the team performed on his side of the ball is easy, but the characteristics that make a strong head coach don't always align with those that define a coach's specific defensive or offensive schemes. The 39-year-old Gannon is impressing people in ways that make teams look at him as a strong overall leader.

What are the Vikings looking for in a coach?
Fowler: Mike Tomlin's name has come up during Minnesota's search as the team's committee identifies the right coach. The Vikings had Tomlin, who has never had a record below .500 since taking over the Steelers' job, in 2006 as Brad Childress' defensive coordinator and knew his magnetic personality would lead to a successful head-coaching tenure. And while Mike Zimmer had a largely successful eight-year run in Minnesota, it's no secret his hard-charging style grated on the locker room, so a change of pace is probably needed.

Tomlin is one of a kind, but can the Vikings find someone who fits that mold? Dan Quinn certainly has that gear, and I'm hearing he's high on their list, if not at the top. Quinn is intrigued by Minnesota, but pairing with the right general manager is crucial to him, and with his long-standing relationship with Broncos GM George Paton, Denver would have that edge unless the Vikings can appeal to him.

49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans presents an interesting case because, like Tomlin, he has been an NFL defensive coordinator for one season but has created buzz for his humble confidence, talent evaluation and pedigree (he was a better player than almost anyone he coaches). Ryans is 37, while Tomlin was 34 upon his hiring in Pittsburgh.

Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell, Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles all bring their own flavor. Some other names that have come up in the Vikings' search: Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Iowa State coach Matt Campbell.

Matt Eberflus could be the Jags' guy
Fowler: The Colts defensive coordinator has heightened his profile because he's known as a strong interviewer, is well-organized and has the right demeanor for being a head coach. That helps explain why he's a finalist in Chicago and Jacksonville. The Colts are confident that Eberflus will get one of the two jobs.

There's a sense in some coaching circles that, out of the two options, Eberflus will lean Jacksonville, which badly needs an adult in the room to build with Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars' plan was to narrow down a list of two or three finalists after initial interviews. Eberflus is the only known finalist thus far.

Could there be a Seahawks reunion in Denver?
Graziano: The Broncos are traveling the country interviewing coaches this week, but it's still hard to find someone who doesn't think Cowboys defensive coordinator and former Falcons coach Dan Quinn will end up being their pick. If that happens, watch out for Darrell Bevell as his potential pick for offensive coordinator (assuming Bevell, who finished the season as the Jaguars' interim coach, doesn't get the full-time job in Jacksonville).

Bevell and Quinn were the offensive and defensive coordinators in Seattle in 2013-14, and in fact Bevell was the offensive coordinator there for the first six years of Russell Wilson's career. Just something to watch, since Denver is looking for a quarterback this offseason and Wilson might be looking for a new home.

    Coordinator rumblings
    Graziano:

    • It sounds as if Broncos defensive coordinator Ed Donatell is the front-runner to land that same job with the Seattle Seahawks. Donatell has had a couple of brief stints on the University of Washington coaching staff, so he has ties to the area.

    • Assuming Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler retires, as expected, the team appears likely to promote secondary coach Teryl Austin to replace him.

    • If Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich gets a head-coach job, watch for Bucs linebackers coach Larry Foote to go with him as his defensive coordinator.

    • Colts running backs coach Scottie Montgomery, a former Steelers assistant coach, would be a candidate to watch if the Steelers decide to move on from offensive coordinator Matt Canada after one season.

    • Former Broncos coach Vic Fangio is generating a lot of interest as a defensive coordinator candidate. Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke is said to be interested in bringing in Fangio as defensive coordinator, depending on who ultimately gets the head-coach job. There also have been a lot of rumblings connecting Fangio to the Rams if current defensive coordinator Raheem Morris were to go elsewhere.
    Fowler:

    • Speaking of Canada, I'm told he's confident he'll get another year to shape the Steelers' offense. There's no official vote of confidence yet, but rarely does Tomlin fire a coach after one season. The feeling early on is that Canada will stay, barring a surprise.

    • And on Donatell and Seattle, here's what one source said about his candidacy for the Seahawks' defensive coordinator job: "It's his job to lose."

    • The Panthers are starting their follow-up interviews for the offensive coordinator position. After talking with eight or so candidates, Matt Rhule is meeting a second time with Montgomery and former Washington coach Jay Gruden, and there could be more. Carolina is taking its time, so it's possible the job is not finalized this week.

    • The Lions haven't finalized offensive coordinator plans after they fired Anthony Lynn, but Dan Campbell is believed to be considering in-house options. Tight ends coach Ben Johnson has a good rapport with Jared Goff and helped Campbell with several offensive duties during the season. He could be in the mix.

Don't all these coaches do that? I'm assuming they're all asked about potential staff hires during these interviews, and I'm also assuming the names they give don't come out of thin air. Caldwell also hasn't been in the league the last few years, so there hasn't been anything restricting him from talking to anyone.

I don't know, guys. Seems plausible to me that Jacksonville has already decided to select Asa Hutchinson with the #1 pick even though they don't have a coach yet and will trade favors with his agent to make him look better for a division rival.

Houston is stupid. Florio is just as stupid, and no one should ever take anything he writes or says seriously. Biggest grifter in a business filled with them.
