I could be wrong but that was his release clause when we were interested. If so, you match that in Spain, agree on wages and it’s done. It’s how we got Partey late as well. Would be interested in seeing a list of release clauses for La Liga. I don’t really care about the huge ones, just realistic.
Word is his release clause was 90, and this agreement is at 70 mil euros. I'm surprised they dropped their price to be honest
I agree. I'm stunned at this move, because I figured at that price a team that plays in Europe would be all over him
Didn’t he have a pretty disappointing season after everyone had a hard on for him after 20/21 season and Euros? Seems like there’s been no talk of him this Summer
rather pay 70 for Isak than 60 for Gordon more upside and will be easy for Newcastle to move off if he doesnt hit
his star has fallen the last couple of years and he hasn’t been able to take the next step forward in his development. He’ll only be 23 next month so he’s far from a finished product but this seems to be Sociedad no longer willing to gamble and taking advantage of the market/selling while his value remains
If he doesn’t hit he won’t be easy to move. But they’ll have enough money to just eat it so doesn’t matter.
Newcastle fans must not know what to feel right now. The realization your team is about to drop 200m+ lbs every summer for the next 5 years must be all consuming.
After nearly 15 years of Ashley, I am numb. I don't think a lot of people on here can imagine following a team for almost 20 years and never having any real hope. We had a couple good years by raiding the French leagues for nuggets like Cabaye and adding the double Dembas, other than that it has been years of over promise and under deliver. Watching people talk positively about Newcastle on here and social media last weekend, was a very long time coming for Ocho and I.
Definitely not due to his production... all the potential in the world, but he kinda sucks (relative to the valuation)
to be fair they would be dumb to do it differently. and these transfer fees are paid over the life of the contract so it wont be a crazy fee due immediately
He definitely struggled last year. But then you look at the year prior and you see what he can do. Could very well not work out, but the recruitment team for Newcastle had him as their #1, so I’m fine with them taking the chance.
We were pretty heavily rumored to be in for him last year so, on the heals of much better production. I recall being bullish on him early, based off YouTube & highlight videos, but cooling pretty dramatically. He's still 23 & could develop further, but that's a hell of a price to pay on a project. In the end, Isak is not something Arsenal could afford to roll the dice on.
For sure. Newcastle is operating with the buy young/up and coming players with the potential I sell down the road. He seems to be a perfect fit for that, and it’s not like there are a lot of strikers available that fit that mold/are gettable. I also imagine the price has clauses/add ons involved, but not sure we ever know the finer details.
this strategy worked a lot better when other counties could come close to matching premier league salaries unless players are total hits, it's almost impossible to unload them. really good for the turkish league!
Well he’s apparently only going to be on ~120k/w, which isn’t crazy. And even if they can’t sell him, the owners can just open another oil rig and pay for him.
He was a moron & signed an extension for marginally higher wages, last January. That new contract effectively priced him out of previous moves. He could definitely make sense for Newcastle, but still question his physicality & if his style can be effective in the EPL.
Even if legal isn't that a douche bag move? also he basically burned the bridge between himself and United in an interview
Remember when Gerard Romero was saying Barca could get him for like 40m? If PSG do that it would be interesting to see who City go after because they'd need another CM. Pep has also seemed to prefer Gundo to Silva to start season, but Silva moved up and played RW last game
