They were both told to dial it back to 33 right? Checo followed the order. Max didn't and Checo got fucked bc of it.
Dialing it back to 33 has nothing to do with fastest lap. That's their race pace, and Checo should have known after Max didn't that he was going to try to steal the point. Also Checo's engineer should have told Checo that Max was on team radio blatantly telling them he was ignoring their orders.
The idea that Checo got fucked in any sense yesterday when he only won the race because of a Max mechanical in qualifying is hilarious. Ask him to choose which he's rather have between a win and fastest lap and he's choosing the former every time.
I mean even Checo was like wtf to Max. You can see it here. One follows orders, one doesn't, and the one that did got screwed bc of it. If the roles were reversed, Max would lose his shit https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR73Wqm9/
How do you think Max would handle it if the roles were reversed? He kept the instructed pace and Checo went all out to steal fastest lap on the last lap?
In the grand scheme it probably won’t matter. As someone who chose the team blindly and not a specific driver I’m mildly annoyed that the guy who clearly won’t need it snagged it away from the guy who potentially could use it. It’s also pretty amusing at the same time. On the radio he asked about the time, they said it didn’t matter, and he said well it does to me and just went for it. Kind of a RB that scores instead of laying down at the 1 yard line sort of scenario.
As I've said before, max is an F1 driving robot. That makes him great and also a frustrating ass teammate. I'm pretty sure red bull and checo will deal with the frustration. Again conversation wouldn't even be had if his drive shaft hadnt broken in quali
I honestly don't understand anyone being frustrated with Max over this. He was half a second quicker than Checo in Q1; fastest lap is the very least he deserved out of weekend.
Yes I watched the post-race live. Again the fact Checo didn't know is on his engineer because Max was clearly on team radio telling them he was gonna do fastest lap. I'd guess the team didn't want to tell Checo during the race and have him focus on just bringing home the win and not risking putting it in the wall trying to beat Max for a fastest lap. Also just so you know they were told to lap at 33 with like 7-8 laps to go and Max continued putting in 32.6 and ignored them. Max's fastest lap was a 1.31:9, on 19 lap old mediums. It wasn't like he just just dropped pace a few tenths to pull it off.
still funny he rubs so many people the wrong way whilst simultaneously easily being the most likeable F1 racer in his family
If we are talking about teammate battles hell you had Sainz get a black and white flag for weaving in front of Charles, which kept him behind and cooked his tires.
Max would both have a better life and be a worse driver if his dad had never been a part of his life. It sucks when these piece of shit dads get vindicated every like 10 million tries to make their kids into stars.
Hold up....someone was confused or bent out of shape when the 2x reigning drivers champion decided to increase his pace on the last lap to get an extra point?!? Again...the driver that has accrued the most points over the last 2 seasons saw a point out there for the taking and took it?!?! I'M BESIDE MYSELF!
If the roles were reversed, you would be bitching that the team tried to tell Checo not to go for fastest lap.
Hopefully Checo Can keep it up and have at least some drama on the top of the grid. RB has been lucky so far and haven’t had to teammates fighting it out in a while. Max gonna be wrecking his own teammate trying to get every point possible.
Probably. But I hope we can all agree that Max would melt the fuck down if they were instructed to run 1:33, he did so, and Checo said fuck it and took fastest lap on the last lap. The tantrum Max would throw would be hilarious. I hope Checo just says fuck orders and refuses to give an inch to Max. He won't, bc RB will boot him to make sure Max is babied, but it would be awesome to see Checo just go rogue and refuse all orders like Max does.
While I agree it would be funny, the problem for Checo is that he has no leverage at all at Red Bull. He was going to be out of F1 before Red Bull threw him a lifeline. And what he's putting up with is exactly what has caused Red Bull to churn through #2 drivers since Max joined the team. He knows what he signed up for, unless he thought he was going to pull a Rosberg or something.
This is my hope. If we can't have guys from multiple teams vying for the championship then give me teammate drama. Shouting matches, accusations of the cars being tuned for one guy's strengths over the other, ignoring the radio, etc sign me up. If Checo is a close second place at the end of the year I can't see RB dumping him. Everyone always felt bad for Bottas when team orders robbed him of places so let's see a guy take a stand. He's got Carlos Slim behind him he'll land softly if RB let him go over it
Probably safe for the season because he’s the only thing bringing them money. He shouldn’t get to though with how bad the car is.
And let's also be clear, the choice is to 1) go all YOLO for one year with two fingers in the air at Max, get fired and go to a midfield (or worse) team, OR 2) play the good soldier and sit in a machine that is so fast Nicolas Lattifi could be driving and it would still have a legitimate chance of ending up on the podium. I love Checo. I would absolutely love it if this year was competitive between him and Max, and I would love to see him actually beat Max, but I know that isn't realistic. If he swallows his pride and plays the loyal No. 2, he is positioned to bag 3-4 wins a year, eat some 5* catering and live a really cushy life.
I could 100% see Christian sitting Checo for a race at the end of the season to protect Max. Also interesting that last week Helmut Marko said if one of the Red Bull guys can't go, they would pull Yuki up from AT and Liam Lawson would drive for AT. Danny Ric wasn't currently being considered for the spot
Yeah, I'm sure Max is absolutely terrified by the prospect of Checo trying to go toe-to-toe with him:
I didn't say he'd beat him, but I'd love to see him just not roll over like a good dog for him. Like when the team says to run 1:33, fuck that go all out and make it hard on Max. You know, do the shit Max does to everyone else.
The McLarens dicking around at the back unable to pass with DRS was a sad sight. Absolute Mickey Mouse car.
