Was Wainwright in the pooper when he won his 200th? I don't see him in the celebrations or anyone even looking at him
Especially when they literally already use the technology with statcast. If marlins miss by 1 game, that call becomes the reason why
Is there any logic for why they are building this in St Pete instead of Tampa other than it’s cheaper?
Even if Maddux got the same zone (which he didn't) it was all to lefty batters, of which Livan faced significantly more. Which is why his called strike rate doubled his regular season average, while Maddux's was the same as normal
This is such a dumb take. Exactly why wouldn’t Rays fans show up “regardless of where it’s at?” Because both the Lightning and Bucs have had years-long streaks of consecutive sellouts. Just curious why you, someone who’s never spent 5 minutes in the area, would think that.
Basically. Tampa and Hillsborough County couldn’t get their shit together and formally commit to funding. Meanwhile, St. Pete and Pinellas County are footing the bill for nearly half of it, plus equity in the surrounding development.
They have the 4th best record in baseball, were one of the first to clinch a postseason spot and are 27th in attendance. Looks like the fans aren’t showing up for a good team.
theyre literally the only team that has fans that need that may have to fight traffic to get to the game. no one else deals with such a unique problem
Right. But none of that answers the question of why he thinks fans wouldn’t show up regardless of where the stadium is. Location is the only reason people don’t show up now, and it’s why they won’t show up to the new park. But it’s better than Portland or Nashville or Montreal.
Ehh the Braves just moved their stadium to be closer to their fanbase. Having the stadium an hour away is an issue. But this is just the team being cheap and thinking short term costs. They've have much better support in Tampa. A stadium over near the Bucs/Yankees stadiums would do well. You can get away with it in the NFL (NY teams in Jersey) bc it's only 8 games a year. Hard to ask fans to drive an hour each way for 81 games a year. So they are going with funding help over actually trying to build support. Sad bc it's shown it's never going to work in St Pete. Pouring more money into it is dumb,
In this video, Hernandez has 16 more calls in his favor. And all the egregious ones. I know you're extremely biased but come on
Schwarber hitting bombs is cool, but Johan Rojas with 14 DRS in 319 innings with a .341 wOBA is my favorite Phillies storyline of the season. can't remember the last time the Phillies has a defensive OF this fun to watch run down balls.
All the egregious ones is a bit much. Maddux had plenty of them way outside the zone called in his favor. It was a horrible strike zone from Gregg. It's not debatable. But it's not like Gregg was squeezing the Braves while giving Livan the world. Livan simply did a better job of taking advantage of that ridiculous zone. It's a game that goes down in baseball lore as one of the biggest strike zone's in history but the narrative that only the marlins benefitted is foolish and revisionist history.
Whatever firm does these renderings must be making a killing. They always look so cool but never come to fruition.
Hernandez threw 143 pitches, and 88 of them were strikes. Of those, 37 were called strikes. That regular season, 29% of Hernandez’s strikes were called. In Game 5, 42% of Hernandez’s strikes were called. The other starter in Game 5 was Greg Maddux, and he struck out nine batters in seven innings. That was well above his regular-season rate. But 29% of his strikes were called, against a season rate of 28%. It’s not a great measure, but that hints at a more favorable strike zone for Hernandez. He was calling the lefty strike and the Braves had 6 lefties in the line-up that day.
Someone else on twitter broke it down who watched every pitch from that game recently. Gregg's zone was wide but pretty accurate above and below the zone. Maddux kept picking corners because he is one of the GOAT pitchers of all time at painting corners. So when maddux missed low, he didn't get the call. But hernandez kept his pitches belt high but well off the plate, aka right into Gregg's sweet spot. Again, the zone was the same for both, one pitcher leaned into it and abused the hell out of it and the other didn't.
Marginal call goes against your team = Canespiracy! People point out that once egregious calls went for your team during the Clinton presidency =
did I miss something on that story? It seems like the allegations came out, he was suspended, and then it drifted away. Did it all get confirmed finally?
Sounds like Tampa and Hillsborough County made the waaaaaaaaay better decision to not give a billionaire money for absolutely nothing.
I still feel nervous about the division but the Padres are closer to the wild card than the Cubs are to the Brewers. I know that there being multiple teams in between changes the respective odds.
the comments I have seen say Tampa mailed it in with their bid. probably only did it to appease fans bc the City is broke or they know the Bucs will be asking for more money soon for renovations
