The league is calling roughing the passer on defenders who land on quarterbacks while they have the ball. You can't sack or hit a quarterback below the knee or above the head. Young has like a 3 foot window for defenders to hit. Unless the league takes a time machine back to 1986, I don't really see Young's size being particularly relevant.
Sure, but if we're talking longevity, it also stands to reason that at some point he adds some weight to help in that area, no? I don't really get the premise that if he enters the league at 190ish lbs that he's going to be incapable of gaining 10-20 lbs over the next decade.
certainly don't think he is incapable. but you just feel more comfortable with the person who has the frame and size already. Not saying he shouldn't be a top 2 pick, but I think we've seen this kinda play out with Tua, who doesn't seem long for the league if he keeps compiling these injuries.
Look at the hits Justin Fields takes. Most QBs get those calls but Young’s not going to for some reason that the league can’t pinpoint.
If we're comping him to Tua, how many QBs in the league aren't getting injured with the kinds of hits that Tua has taken? Some of those are knocking just about everyone out.
I have to imagine if i looked up posts from Bama fans complaining about Hurts it would be a goldmine.
well that's not really quantifiable, but i'd say most are withstanding those hits. Someone who weighs more than Tua isn't getting ragdolled like he did on that TNF game. And probably not getting knocked out from getting gently pushed over in week 3.
I think nearly all of them would be in support of Tua taking over in 2017. Jalen has always been loved by the fan base, it was just clear he wasn’t our best option with Daboll as OC and the WRs we had. I’m honestly not sure how many more respected players there are from the Saban era than him.
I feel like every year teams that need QBs convince themselves that they are better off to take an edge or LT and end up regretting it. QBs are risky but you really can't escape the fact that your team is going nowhere fast without a good one and shots at one of the top QBs any given year aren't guaranteed. May as well shoot your shot and if it doesn't work, take one again
His frame doesn’t seem like it has the ability to add 20 lbs of muscle. If he was capable why hasn’t he in the past 3 years? (He hasn’t gained a pound in 3 years on his reported weight and I don’t buy for a second that he weighs 194).
I don’t believe that Alabama lied about his weight his freshman year and then we’re truthful his junior year. I’m in the camp they lied all three years. The third option is he showed up 194 and hasn’t gained a pound in 3 years in an elite S&C program.
If they lied during any/all three years (which is entirely possible, if not probable), then there's no point in bringing up that weight never changing as evidence he never gained any during his time there because we have no clue what he weighed at any point during the three years. It's possible he never gained a pound, and it's possible he gained 10+ pounds. Only he and the people who do that stuff at Bama know.
Agreed. I’m just saying he looks about 175-180 and has looked to be about 175-180 since his senior year of high school. So I’m not convinced that he’s capable of adding 20 lbs of muscle.
On the topic, Daniel Jeremiah was on Russillo's pod and said he was told by some scouts to be careful not to put Love too high yet until the measurements come in because he's smaller in person than people think. For whatever that's worth. I would still take him #1 if I were the Texans, Lions, Seahawks or any other team in the QB market, personally.
Yeah I don't see how you pass on him, Stroud, or even Levis if you're QB needy. If you're waiting on the perfect prospect you're gonna be waiting a long time and it's unlikely you'll have the 1.01 for it anyway. Washington passing on QB at 1.02 in 2020 was brain dead at the time and looks even worse now.
I could see the Bears or Seahawks falling in love with one of Carter or Anderson and trying to trade up to number one so the other can't get them
Really hasn’t been the Seahawks MO under Carroll/Schneider. Shit, knowing them they’ll trade out of the first entirely I’d be quite content with either, personally.
Ryan Pace would have traded up to 1 for the consensus #8 prospect in the draft that ultimately would end up busting and not getting the fifth year option
what's an appropriate comp for Carter? i know the UGA defense is sort of its own thing where stats don't tell the entire story but Carter has six career sacks. If he's not an excellent pass rusher from the interior, what are you drafting?
I don't think the Texans can really afford to move down past 2. If they did, they'd almost definitely lose their QB of choice. If they dropped to 3, someone would most assuredly offer a big package to get to 2 and whatever team is at 2 is probably fine with that. I guess the Texans could trade to 2, but that would require them to actually convince whoever is at 2 that they would be ok with not getting their QB choice by trading further back and I don't think anyone is gonna buy that. Then again it's the Texans so maybe they'll do the dumb thing and pass on QB.
Is Brugler still saying that he doesn't think Stroud goes high? I want to say his first mock had him going in the teens but I forget if that was a "this is what I think" or "this is what I'm hearing" sort of thing.
