I sort of agree but in the same breath, qb runs have become a lot bigger part of the game and are somewhat offsetting that hit exposure that's been reduced systematically.

eh, not sure i agree with this. even amongst playoff teams this year, we still saw a ton of injuries knocking qbs out or limiting them (allen, tua, lamar, herbert, mahomes, hurts, sf qbs off the top of my head).

i don't have empirical data for this but i don't think a smaller qb can withstand and play through minor injuries as well. tua looks adequate physically when healthy but is basically useless when playing with a sore ankle, etc.

Batted balls weren’t really that much of an issue while Russell was with Seattle :idk:

Wilson could navigate a pocket better than anyone

Not saying Young can’t but also not fully convinced he’s near that level. Also weird that extending plays was a massive issue for Fields but not Young

I let my anti Ohio St., Justin Fields, product of the system, bias get the better of me. Kid is smooth in the pocket and accurate. I love the floor.

Fair. Just figured height wouldn’t still be as much of a hangup when you have massive QBs like Herbert leading the charge in batted balls. Smaller mobile QBs can easily bemoved around the pocket to avoid those issues/concerns.

That hit would fuck any QB in the league up, though. Is the argument that had he been taller it wouldn’t have been helmet to helmet?

Pat white was 6’ tall. Slight frame though.

and I think Young is amazing. Just saying it’s not like there is a long list of under 200 pound QBs who have had long careers withstanding the beating you take in the NFL.

I dont think drew brees' playing weight was much beyond 200, saw his playing weight listed at 210, but that feels generous. I do get the worry, but young has shown he is ahead of schedule on learning self protection and i think the relative crappines od bamas line was good for his development in that regards

Bryce got pummeled in a few games and, other than the shoulder injury which was him falling down and not due to weight, was very healthy in his career.

He'll probably be a 1st ballot HOFer, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

It's not really a hot take. He played the best game of his life against your team in a playoff game so it kind of makes sense.

No I just don’t think any of these QBs are any good. If I was gonna go I’d possibly take a flyer on Richardson because he’s got the highest ceiling of any qb in the draft

Bryce Young is really fucking good. Whether or not he dies on the field is the question. His weight really does defy the position. His height is irrelevant with how he plays and precedent in the NFL now.

Stroud is the safest QB on the board

Bryce has the highest potential if you can convince him to eat a cheeseburger or two

Richardson might be decent with enough time and in the right offense

He'll probably get the Richardson treatment next year based on his size and canon for an arm.

He will be 24 at the time of next year’s draft while Richardson will be 21 this year, for whatever impact that makes on how they are viewed.

Do the people who are so sure that Richardson is awful think Justin Fields sucks? Because I haven't seen Fields do anything in the last two seasons that I don't think Richardson could do in the next two years, and it seems like Fields has a lot of fans on here. Maybe I'm projecting that too much based on some of the game day stuff about his highlight plays, but at least it seems like Fields has a lot of believers on here.

It's not close, and I understand if people want to put that into the equation. Fields was a significantly better college QB. But there are a lot of really good college QBs who suck in the pros. And Fields has thrown for 4100 yards with 24 TD/21 INT in 27 games his first two years. The people who like him are basing most of it on his running and highlight throws.

I think Fields is much more athletic then Richardson, so no I don't think he could do what Fields has done the last two years in the league. I also don't know if Fields will ever be a good NFL QB. The fact I think Richardson is a good amount worse then Fields leads me to my conclusion that he's going to be a bust.

You say there are a lot of really good college QBs who suck in the pros and that is true. How many QBs were not really good in college but somehow became good in the pros? I don't think Richardson or Levis were anything special in college, so I have no idea why people think they will somehow get better in the NFL.

I think Richardson at 15 ish is palatable, especially if a team has the luxury of a decent amount of draft capital in addition to that pick. Or even Detroit who has the two picks and a vet they can keep around as he develops. Richardson top 5 with coaching staffs/front office that may reach a state of desperation is where the disaster risk comes into play.

That goes for Levis too if you are just looking at tools. Full disclosure: I haven't watched much of either of these guys. I'm basing this on what the talking heads say and general team building philosophy. The number of safe QB prospects coming out every year is dwindling. Feels like the entire exercise is a decision of floor versus ceiling but these teams don't actually have a plan for developing the QB with a high probability of success. Pace and Nagy for example. Fields was doomed under Nagy.

If Richardson didn’t have that one game against Utah, would anyone even be talking about him as a first-round pick? I know highlight reel plays can happen for anyone, but it seems like a lot of the hoopla is because of a single game in September.

Though I certainly acknowledge that he’s deserving of the “toolsy” label that draft folks love to toss around.

It still doesn't make sense to draft him in the first round but that's why I'm certain GM's are salivating.

He should have utilized NIL to cash in/play another year in college somewhere other than Florida.
